The actor is reportedly in the early stages of casting for the popular Channel 4 program.
Nigella Lawson is reportedly set to replace Dame Prue Leith as judge on The Great British Bake Off. According to reports, the star is in the final stages of discussions following Prue’s announcement today that she’d be leaving the show after nine years. It’s thought Nigella will join Paul Hollywood when filming starts for the new series in April.
Nigella’s last TV appearance in the UK was in Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat on BBC Two in 2020. Since then she has judged on MasterChef Australia and fronted some Christmas specials. According to a source, bosses are confident she’ll be a “sure-fire hit” when she joins the baking show.
According to the source, “Contract discussions are in the final stages, and Nigella will be heating up the famous tent soon.” The source added to The Sun: Nigella is well-known around the world. With all of her work stuffed with the funnies and sexist patter that are associated with Bake Off, she has the cheeky banter down to a tee.
Dame Prue Leith made her exit today in a statement. The 85-year-old, who evaluates the baker’s creations alongside Paul Hollywood, who has been a part of the program since its beginning, is a fan favorite but is now looking forward to taking some time off. She intends to spend her summer in her garden rather than the sweltering Bake Off tent.
Prue shared photos of her time on the program on Instagram, including a photo of herself and Paul posing with hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding. After nine series and judging more than 400 challenges, she then stated, “I’ve decided to step down as The Great British Bake Off judge.”
“Bake Off has been a wonderful part of my life for the past nine years, and I’m confident that I’ll miss working with my fellow judge Paul, Alison, and Noel, as well as the Love Productions and Channel 4 crew.” But now, for the love of my life (I’m 86), it seems appropriate to take a step back! I’d like to do a lot of things, not the least of which is spending the summers outside enjoying my garden.
I’m confident that anyone who joins the team will enjoy it just as much as I do. She wrote as she finished the announcement, “I feel very lucky to have been a part of it. Fans expressed their happiness when one wrote, “Ahhh, sorry to miss you Prue!” I appreciate all the love.
Love Productions, the creator of the hit program, thanked Prue for being a brilliant Bake Off judge and a beloved presence in the tent for almost ten years. Prue will always have a piece of the Bake Off’s heart, from her sincere knowledge and support of the bakers to her ability to drop innocent innuendos that bring the audience home and the tent to tears of laughter.
