Fans who demanded a raise for the team jumped on Harry Styles’ new album to demand that the public schedule their cervical smear tests were enthralled when the NHS reacted to the announcement of his new album.

The NHS has been praised for its “iconic” Harry Styles social media campaign, in which women have been urged to go for a smear test if they can remember the singer in his One Direction days. Harry’s comeback has lead the health service’s social media team to post a reactive meme to remind women they need to keep on top of their cervical screening.

Although it may seem an odd crossover, the campaign has sparked a huge reaction from fans of the 31-year-old, off the back of his new album announcement this week. The Grammy winner’s last album release, Harry’s House, was four years ago, so fans were delighted to hear his fourth solo record – Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally – will drop on March 6.

It marks his return to music after his hiatus following the end of his Love On Tour shows in July 2023. Demonstrating “social media gold” reactive marketing, the official NHS Instagram account shared its meme on Saturday.

The star’s photo at age 16 was displayed next to “and you are excited for this Harry,” along with the caption “If you remember this Harry.” His new album cover was also displayed. A patient was shown a smear test image with the words “It may be time for your cervical screening” underneath.

The messaging was praised by followers who jumped. One person wrote, “Hello, I wanna join, anyone who hosts socials for the NHS.” Another person remarked, “NHS socials are incredibly good,” and a third person pleaded with them to “please give your marketing team a raise”!

Excellent public health messaging was the response of an influencer doctor, which was followed by clapping emojis. “Iconic from the NHS social team!” was a comment posted by another user. Look at those figures! Reminder: “Bookbook Book your smears!!” Who would have imagined the NHS would be developing the reactive marketing playbook, a different Instagram user said?

The caption went straight to business, addressing a pressing issue that Harry had raised while the caption read: “Cervical screening is for women between the ages of 25 and 64. Screening for those who have cervixes should be available to everyone.

You’ll receive your first invitation a few months before turning 25. Cervical cancer is a cancer found anywhere in the cervix and is present every five years from the age of 25 to 64. Women between the ages of 30 and 35 are most susceptible to it.

“Cervical screening can detect high-risk HPV by preventing cervical cancer.” Therefore, it is crucial to reserve time for your appointment and to show up on time.

Then, if necessary, users are directed to seek advice. A nurse or doctor will take a sample of cells from the cervical cervix and send them off for testing for high-risk HPV or any abnormal changes during a cervical smear test that only last five to ten minutes.

No further tests are required if the result is clear. Patients will be informed if something on the smear test shows up and whether any additional tests or treatments are necessary.

As per the Cancer Research website: “HPV is a very common virus that affects all genders. It is estimated that around 8 out of 10 people will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives. The likelihood of having HPV increases with the number of sexual partners you have.” For more information, visit the NHS website here.
