Organised labour in Taraba State says it will not succumb to alleged threats by the state government representatives to shelve its planned indefinite strike action.
The organized labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress is insisting that the strike will commence at midnight.
In a press briefing by the leaders of the union, Peter Jediel of the NLC and Sule Abasu of the TUC, the strike is in response to alleged irregularities in the state’s biometric data capture committee exercise, which excluded some workers and termed them as ghost workers.
They accused the committee of engaging in illegal practices and faulted the state government for failing to respond to an earlier ultimatum..
”Based on our resolutions held today, 10th August 2025, at the NLC Secretariat by 3:00 pm, came up with the following resolutions that strike is hereby declared to commence by midnight tomorrow, 11th August 2025.
”This is because of the government’s inability to meet the demands of the organised labour based on the irregularities of the biometrics exercise, which excluded some workers as civil servants and termed them as ghost workers.
”It’s a normal thing in the labour movement. We don’t bother if they threaten us or not, all we know is that we have declared a strike for the welfare of our workers.”
A few days ago, the unions said their decision followed a resolution reached at a meeting of the Joint State Administrative Council on August 6.
This was contained in a press statement jointly signed by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman, Sule Abasu.
According to the statement, the strike is in response to alleged irregularities by the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee, which labour leaders claim have adversely affected workers.
Jordan will host a Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways to support the rebuilding of Syria, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates says, as Damascus seeks investment deals with international companies to revive its war-ravaged economy.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and United States envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack are expected to attend, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s fledgling government has been grappling with the fallout from sectarian violence between Bedouin and Druze fighters in the southern province of Suwayda as well as Israeli strikes on Syrian soldiers and the capital, Damascus.
Syria’s economy remains in tatters after nearly 14 years of war and the ouster of longtime President Bashar al-Assad in December.
Jordan made its announcement after Damascus signed 12 agreements worth $14bn on Wednesday, including a $4bn agreement with Qatar’s UCC Holding to build a new airport and a $2bn deal to establish a subway in Damascus with the national investment corporation of the United Arab Emirates.
The projects “will extend across Syria and represent a qualitative shift in infrastructure and economic life”, Talal al-Hilali, head of the Syrian Investment Authority, said during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Damascus.
He described the agreements as “a turning point” for Syria’s future.
Al-Sharaa and Barrack were both present at the signing ceremony, according to Syria’s official SANA news agency.
The United Nations has put Syria’s post-war reconstruction costs at more than $400bn.
Syria’s new authorities have worked to attract investment for the reconstruction of infrastructure across the country after the US and the European Union lifted sanctions on Syria in the wake of al-Assad’s ouster.
Other major developments on the investment front include the $2bn Damascus Towers project for residential high rises, signed with the Italian-based company UBAKO; a $500m deal for the Baramkeh Towers project, also in Damascus; and another $60m agreement for Baramkeh Mall.
Last month, Saudi Arabia said it would invest about $3bn in real estate and infrastructure projects in Syria.
Just hours before Princess Andre’s new reality TV show with ITV2 airs, Katie has unveieled her new taut look after more surgery. The mum has been accused of trying to upstage her daughter

Princess Andre has revealed she won’t be following in her mum’s footsteps when it comes to plastic surgery.
The daughter of Katie Price and Peter Andre has been busy carving out her own career as an influencer and TV star, with her biggest project yet launching in just a few hours.
The 18-year-old’s new reality TV series – The Princess Diaries – airs on ITV2 tonight in a huge milestone, but the build-up to her new show has been somewhat overshadowed by an alleged “feud” with mum Katie. It comes as Katie has been accused of ‘last act of desperation’ hours before Princess’ series.

Katie has made a number of barbs in the days leading up to Princess’ new series, including claims she was banned from her daughter’s 18th birthday party and that her former management team – who look after ex-husband Peter Andre and Princess – did not want her on the show as they considered her “trash”.
But insiders have hit back against the mum-of-five’s version of events, telling The Mirror that Princess had arranged to see her mum on the morning of her birthday in June in London – but Katie failed to appear.
A source said: “It was all in the diary but then Katie claimed she couldn’t make it as she was abroad. It was disappointing.
“For Katie to then say she was banned from the afternoon’s filmed party when she was the no-show in the morning is just beyond belief.”

And today, Katie has been accused of trying to upstage her teen daughter after unveiling her taut new face following more surgery.
New snaps of the glamour model’s striking face lift transformation, obtained by The Sun, come just hours before Princess’ new show is due to air.
The mum braved the pain as she strutted through the reception with the skin on her face was stretched back behind fresh bandages.

Princess has not held back on her views on plsatic surgery and once asked Katie a brutal question about her extreme procedures.
During a previous appearance on Katie’s reality show, the model asked her daughter if she’d ever have her lips done.
Princess replied: “I want to say no, like you know how much surgery you’ve had… Can your body actually move? Because you stretch so much skin.”
Katie told her: “More surgery to come! Put it this way, when I’m 90 I’ll probably be transparent – you’ll see all my veins.”
The teen responded “It’s your body and your choice, I don’t have a problem with plastic surgery. But I think some people are so naturally pretty that they don’t actually need it. You were naturally pretty.”
Sources are perplexed by Katie’s attempts to “repeatedly insert herself into her daughter’s career”.

The model herself claimed: “I have not been allowed to go on any photoshoots, signings or Superdrug openings or anything like that. I’m not welcome.”
But the insider said: “Why is she making this all about her? What sort of person on the eve of her daughter’s show, starts throwing all these grenades and believes she knows what’s best, and should be given equal billing? It’s Princess’s life, her career.”
It comes as Katie thinks she’ll “always be the baddie” in relation to her ex-husband Peter. The star shares two children – Princess and Junior with her ex Peter Andre – but she seemingly threw shade on her ex and his wife Emilly Andre, saying it’s “always going to be my fault”.
Speaking on her podcast, Katie said: “I’ve cleared a lot of things up. This is what’s interesting, lets see how it’s twisted and turned again, just to let you all know, whatever happens, is always going to be my fault.
Dame Maureen Lipman returned to Coronation Street back in 2018, which is sixteen years after she first starred as Lillian Spencer, and she now plays the role of Evelyn Plummer

Dame Maureen Lipman has opened up about how starring in Coronation Street has made her think about getting plastic surgery. The actress first step foot on the cobbles in a guest appearance as Lillian Spencer and has now been a regular face since 2018 playing Evelyn Plummer.
The 79-year-old talked about how she felt about how she looked in an interview three years ago. She has said that she hasn’t thought about really going under the knife but there is one thing that she’d like to tweak.
In a resurfaced interview, Maureen said that while watching herself back on the ITV soap, she had noticed bags under her eyes. Pointing these out, she said this is an area she’d like to have “tidied up”. It comes after a Coronation Street and Mrs Brown’s Boys actor dies after short illness.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she was asked if she’d have plastic surgery to which she said: “No, but I might have the bags under my eyes tidied up. I sometimes watch myself under the harsh lightning of Coronation Street and I can get a bit neurotic about how I look.”
The star has also shed light on some of the challenges when it comes to being an actress on a popular soap. Fans have noticed that she has been absent from recent episodes due to her taking a break from filming.
Maureen said that she has no plans to retire, insisting she’ll “carry on as much as I’m wanted” or until she can’t physically continue.
Despite loving her role on the soap, she acknowledges there’s a “big problem” with the nature of filming for such a popular ITV series.
Maureen has been a permanent Corrie fixture since 2018
On the 20 Questions podcast, Maureen revealed: “One of the problems of being in a soap, for example, is that because you are doing eight or 10 scenes a day, you read it, you move it, and then you film it. Thank you.”
Explaining the rapid pace of production, she said: “You might get another crack if something has gone wrong technically, but on the whole, that’s it. It’s almost like radio but there are cameras there, so you can’t do anything. People are just talking heads.”
Maureen has had an impressive career which first started back in 1971. Her first job was with the National Theatre Company before she later transitioned to television, making her debut in the sitcom The Lovers in 1975.

Her breakout role came four years later in the sitcom Agony. In 1987, she landed the part of Beatrice “Beattie” Bellman in the adverts for BT.
She particularly rose to fame with the iconic “You Got an Ology” advert, which became so popular that people would shout it back to her on the streets.
A private radio station in Ebonyi State, Legacy FM, has suspended its acting General Manager, Odoh Chikwere, for allegedly criticising the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.
According to reports, Chikwere’s suspension followed a series of alleged criticisms he made against the governor’s administration both on air and on his social media platforms on Friday, August 8, 2025.
The management on Saturday announced his suspension on air, stating that the suspension was due to his “unruly behaviour” and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the radio station.

“The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice.
“This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the Legacy FM.
“With such effect, he is hereby directed to hand over all the company property in his position to the next senior officer,” it announced.
In a Friday post on his Facebook page, which preceded his suspension, Chikwere made a series of allegations.
He claimed that the administration was suffering from poor communication, underperformance by his appointees, and lack of clear policy direction.
He also advised the Nwifuru to “step on toes to achieve results,” adding that the current state of affairs weakened the governor’s support base.
In response to the allegations, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, issued a statement describing the criticisms as unfounded and baseless.
