Britain’s Beth Potter claimed her second gold in two weeks to become joint leader in the World Triathlon Championship series.
After claiming her first 2025 gold in the Czech Republic, the 33-year-old’s second successive win in Weihai, China, puts pressure on 2024 series champion Cassandre Beaugrand of France, with the pair tied on 2925 points.
No one in the women’s section apart from Potter and Beaugrand has topped the podium twice this series, meaning their fates lie in their own hands as they head into the grand final in Wollagong, Australia next month.
The Paris 2024 double bronze medallist held the lead, allowing her to ease off for the victory lap and comfortably cross for her second series gold.
“I’m just thinking about myself, about my race processes and I’m really happy with that,” Potter said.
“I don’t take winning for granted so it’s great to back up my win in Karlovy just 12 days later.
“I’m feeling quietly confident and good in myself, trusting the training and it’s coming good.”
In hot, humid conditions in Weihai, Potter’s compatriot Sophie Alden earned a sixth-place finish on her debut at this level while in the men’s race, Jack Willis and Connor Bentley ran in 11th and 13th respectively for Great Britain.
“Beth once again delivered a masterclass and showed that she’s getting right back to her very best,” British Triathlon performance director Mike Cavendish said.

Coronation Street actress Maureen Lipman branded Miriam Margolyes a “shock jock” and “self-publicist” for her views about Palestine. Harry Potter star Miriam, 84, described Israeli forces as “vicious”, claiming the country’s government is “genocidal”.
Miriam, who comes from a Jewish family, has been vocal with her criticism of Israel over recent months. But Evelyn Plummer star Maureen, 79, took aim at the outspoken actress, with Miriam reposting her insults on her own Facebook page.
In her column, Maureen told Miriam that she had spoken to another Jewish actress. Maureen did not object to the other, unnamed Jewish woman despite the fact that she had also criticized the Israeli Defense Forces’ barbaric actions in Palestine.

She explained that she realized she and the other actress had contradictory opinions about the genocide taking place in Palestine after receiving an email exchange. However, Miriam’s accusations against her were brutal, calling her “thought-through, measured, and civil.”
Miriam riled Maureen up with her Big Issue interview. She had told the publication: “I was born in ’41, at the height of the Holocaust. I cannot bear to think that my people are doing exactly the same thing to another nation.”
She added that Hitler had permanently transformed Jewish people, turning them from caring and compassionate to “this vicious, genocidal, nationalist nation, pursue and murdering women and children.”
Hitting out at Miriam’s interview, Maureen compared her to the anonymous actress. She wrote in her column in The Spectator : “Miriam Margolyes, on the other hand, is a shock jock, a potty-mouthed controversialist and self-publicist, so I’m uninterested in her latest PR splash comparing Israelis to Nazis and the Gazan war to the Holocaust.”
Miriam shared a photo of the column to her Facebook page on Thursday writing: “From Dame Maureen Lipman (alas!)” It’s not the first time Miriam has ruffled feathers with her strong views on the war, with anti-Semitism campaigners hitting out at the star.
Speaking to the Sunday National, Miriam recently said: “Because I’m Jewish – although not a believer in it – I do care very much about what happens to Israel and to the Palestinian people.”
No one likes Jews, they never do, she continued, “Of course there is antisemitism, there has always been antisemitism.” However, this is not about Jews; it is about Israel and its actions.
Miriam received an OBE in 2002 for her services to drama, but she has since been subject to criticism for declining to do so. The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) responded to her statements by calling them “repugnant.”
She was born Jewish, according to a statement from the CAA, but that does not allow her to use her potent platform to spread anti-Jewish venom.
“This has to be the end of the road. She must be shunned by the showbiz world that has fawned and bowed until now.” CAA added that it would write to the Honours Forfeiture Committee as well as BAFTA to ask them to remove Miriam of her titles.

Oasis fever is about to sweep the nation once again as Noel and Liam Gallagher return to Wembley Stadium.
After thrilling fans back in July and August, the Mancunians are back in the capital with their biblical – and somewhat emotional – Live 25 tour. Following last year’s enormous demand for tickets, these two additional dates were added to meet demand.
As on their previous dates, Liam and Noel will take to the stage to perform to fans following performances from support acts Cast and Richard Ashcroft.

Wembley Park is accessible from central London thanks to its excellent connectivity. With three stations and three tube lines, choosing to use the London Underground to see Oasis at Wembley Stadium is a good option.
Zone 4 includes Wembley Park. You can plan your visit using the TFL (Transport for London) official website.

Take the Harrow Road (A404) north-west until you reach Paddington Station, then take the A40, where you’ll see Oasis if you’re driving from central London. Upon reaching Wembley Central Station, turn right onto Wembley Hill Road and follow the signs to Wembley Stadium, where Oasis will be performing.

Warning in place
Non-ticket holders who want to attend a Gallagher-Hill-style listening party outside of Wembley Stadium are in luck. The venue will not allow anyone without a lucky ticket to hang around outside hoping to catch the Gallaghers in action.
No standing on the Olympic Steps or by the stadium entrances will be permitted, according to security, who have confirmed they will be moving people along.
Since the tour started, searches for Oasis Wembley tickets have surged more than 5000% as fear of missing out has begun to kick in for ticketless fans. The decision follows crackdowns during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last year, where Tay-gating – fans gathering to sing and dance outside venues – prompted venues to tighten the rules.
A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: “To support with the safe entry and exit of everyone within the stadium, no one is allowed to stand outside any entrance or on the Olympic Steps at the front of the stadium. Non-ticket holders will continue to be a passenger.
Bag policy
Check the dimensions of your bag before leaving the house so that it is not possible to bring it larger than an A4 piece of paper (H 297mm, W 210mm, and D 210mm) into Wembley Stadium.
Any matchday merchandise you buy will be supplied in a clear plastic bag, and will be allowed into the stadium as well. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has delivered a defiant speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), attempting to justify his country’s genocide in Gaza and denouncing Western allies as global criticism over the nearly two-year war mounts.
Speaking at UNGA in New York on Friday, the increasingly isolated Israeli leader railed against the “disgraceful decision” by some Western countries in recent days to recognise a Palestinian state.
“It will be a mark of shame on all of you,” he said.
“Your disgraceful decision will encourage terrorism against Jews, and against innocent people everywhere.”
Netanyahu, who is facing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza, delivered his speech to a sparse audience because many delegates left the General Assembly hall in protest as he made his way towards the stage.
Thousands of people, meanwhile, took to the streets of New York to protest against Netanyahu’s presence in the city and denounce Israel’s war on the besieged Gaza Strip, where Israeli attacks have killed more than 65,000 people.
“He is not welcome to New York City,” a representative of the Palestinian Youth Movement told Al Jazeera at the demonstration.
“It is unconscionable that elected officials in the US and in New York City and nationally are rolling the red carpet for him”.
Message to Hamas: Surrender or die
During his speech, Netanyahu insisted that, despite the growing international pressure and condemnation of genocide, Israel “must finish the job” in Gaza following the Hamas-led attacks in October 2023, during which an estimated 1,139 people were killed.
“Western leaders may have buckled under the pressure,” he said. “And I guarantee you one thing: Israel won’t.”
Netanyahu’s speech was also broadcast into Gaza via loudspeakers, a fact he acknowledged in his speech, issuing a message directly to the Israeli captives held in the territory.
“We have not forgotten you, not even for a second,” he said. “The people of Israel are with you. We will not falter, and we will not rest until we bring all of you home.”
Netanyahu also claimed that his speech was being transmitted to the cellphones of people in Gaza, including Hamas leadership, and he issued an ultimatum that they should lay down their weapons and release the captives, or they would die.
Critics have said Netanyahu’s unwillingness to reach a ceasefire deal in Gaza has prevented the captives’ release, with many opponents, including members of the Israeli parliament, accusing the prime minister of prolonging the war for political purposes.
Denial of genocide
Throughout his speech, Netanyahu laid out a familiar narrative, repeatedly referring to the 2023 attack to justify continuing the war on Gaza.
He also detailed the “seven-front war” that Israel had since waged against its enemies in the region. Holding a map titled “The Curse” as a visual aide, he listed off the enemies Israel had dealt with around the region, including Gaza, Yemen, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Iraqi militia.
Netanyahu was particularly scathing of Israel’s Western allies – but not the United States, which has been his country’s staunchest defender at the international organisation and main military backer.
“You know deep down that Israel is fighting your fight,” he told Western leaders. He also claimed, without evidence, that behind closed doors, leaders had thanked him for his country’s efforts in securing the world from “terror”.
Members of the US delegation in attendance could be seen applauding throughout the speech.
Netanyahu denied Israel was committing genocide in Gaza, as a UN inquiry and a growing number of experts have found, saying Israel’s military would not tell them to evacuate if they were trying to commit genocide.
He also denied Israel was deliberately starving the population of Gaza, where famine has been declared, blaming Hamas for stealing aid into the territory and selling it to finance the war.
In late June, an internal report by the US’s development agency, USAID, concluded that there was no evidence of the systematic looting of US-provided aid by Hamas.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized Netanyahu’s UNGA address, calling it “a tired and whining” speech filled with “tired gimmicks.” He also highlighted how Netanyahu failed to present a peace plan to secure the release of Israeli captives being held in Gaza.
Ruben Amorim admits to not knowing what to expect from his troubled Manchester United, but believes that treating every game as if it were the “last one” is the best strategy.

He said, “It’s really important for us to have that sense of urgency that we need to win, no matter what.”

Every game is the last one, he said, adding, “The best way to deal with that is… The next game for Manchester United will be the most significant of their career.
Let’s start presenting ourselves with the urgency we need on the pitch because I understand how the fans feel.
Bryan Mbeumo impressed since joining United from Brentford in July, according to Amorim.
“It’s really important for everything he’s been doing, the light that he brings into the dressing room,” he said. You can tell that he’s there for us whenever he speaks, he said, but you can’t tell if he’s talking more.
He is a different threat than he was last season, presses a lot, and runs a lot. Bryan is more than I’m happy with.
