Hojlund’s Milan hopes fade as Boniface nears loan move

Images courtesy of Getty

Victor Boniface, the striker for Bayer Leverkusen, is close to completing a loan deal with AC Milan, which could put an end to Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer to the Serie A giants.

Hojlund had been a target for Milan to sign from Manchester United on loan.

The Denmark forward, 22, has stalled on a deal because the negotiating process did not include a purchase requirement.

Similar deals have already been made for Boniface by Milan, but the latter has the option to make the move for the Nigerian a permanent one starting in the summer.

After suffering a thigh injury that could keep him out for up to four months, Napoli are also on the lookout for a number nine.

Hojlund announced earlier this month that, despite having an inconsistent first couple of seasons, he would stay at United.

His organization has since signed Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko for a sum of $ 73.7 million.

Hojlund was then completely dropped from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Premier League defeat by Arsenal, who had then been rested throughout United’s final pre-season game against Fiorentina.

Jake Paul to face lightweight champion Davis in exhibition

Getty Images

Jake Paul will take on WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition fight in Atlanta, Georgia on 14 November.

Davis’ title will not be on the line because of the huge gulf in weight between the two men.

Paul weighed 200lbs for his last bout with Davis currently campaigning at 135lb.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul found fame on the Disney Channel and then as an influencer before stepping into the world of boxing and has a record of 12 wins and one defeat as a professional.

“Yes, he is one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, any time, any place, against all odds,” Paul wrote on X.

Paul added “first David, then Goliath” in what could be seen as a reference to reports he was in talks over a fight with British heavyweight Anthony Joshua.

Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, recently told BBC Sport that Paul could likely be next for the two-time heavyweight champion when he returns from injury in 2026.

Paul beat 39-year-old former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in his last fight.

The 28-year-old earned a decision victory against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in November.

Davis retained his WBA lightweight title in his last contest after fighting to a draw against Lamont Roach Jr in March.

In January, Davis was ranked number eight in the pound-for-pound rankings.

Paul has been on a mission to try and convince the boxing fraternity of his ability since making his professional debut in 2020.

After beating a YouTuber, a former NBA player and three former UFC fighters, Paul fell to his first defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury in 2023.

But with a disparity of around 65lbs between Paul and Davis in their last fights this bout will do little for either fighter’s reputation.

There is also a significant height difference with Paul standing at 6ft 1in compared to the 5ft 5in ‘Tank’, while Davis will be giving up nine inches in reach.

The contracted weight, number of rounds and size of gloves for the exhibition are yet to be confirmed.

Paul wore bigger 14oz gloves and contested shorter rounds against Tyson, given the former world champion’s age.

There are striking similarities to when Paul’s older brother, Logan, fought Floyd Mayweather in 2021.

Jake Paul to face 5ft 5ins Davis in November

On November 14 in Atlanta, Georgia, Jake Paul will face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition fight.

Due to the significant weight gap between the two men, Davis’ title won’t be in doubt.

Paul’s final fight, against Davis, was against a weight of 135 pounds, while Davis was currently campaigning against him.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has a successful professional boxing career with 12 wins and one defeat. He first gained fame on the Disney Channel and then gained fame as an influencer.

Paul wrote on X, “Yes, he is one of the world’s best pound-for-pound boxers, but my motto is to fight any odds, at any time, anywhere,” Paul said.

According to reports that Paul was in talks with British heavyweight Anthony Joshua, Paul added “first David, then Goliath.”

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Joshua, recently told BBC Sport that Paul might take Joshua’s place when he recovers from injury in 2026.

In his most recent fight, Paul defeated 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

In November, the 28-year-old defeated 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a unanimous decision.

After drawing with Lamont Roach Jr. in his final contest, Davis won the WBA lightweight title.

In the pound-for-pound rankings released in January, Davis was ranked eighth.

Since making his professional debut in 2020, Paul has made a mission to persuade the boxing community of his prowess.

In 2023, Paul suffered his first defeat against Tommy Fury after defeating a YouTuber, a former NBA player, and three former UFC competitors.

However, Paul and Davis’ weight differences in their previous fights will be minimal in comparison to this fight.

Paul and Davis will both be giving up nine inches in height, while Davis will be standing at 6′ 1″ versus the 5′ 5in “Tank” in a noticeable height difference.

For the exhibition, the contracted weight, the number of rounds, and the gloves’ size have not yet been confirmed.

Given that Tyson was a former world champion, Paul wore bigger 14-ounce gloves and won shorter contests against him.

Similar events occur when Paul’s older brother, Logan, and Floyd Mayweather square off in 2021.

Lord’s and Hundred Men’s competition

London Spirit 135-3 (100 balls): Pope 52* (38) Smith 41 (27), Lawes 2-34

Northern Superchargers 138-2 (82 balls): Crawley 55* (38), Lawrence 37 (22)

Eight wickets separated the Superchargers.

Northern Superchargers won by eight wickets over London Spirit at Lord’s, continuing their strong form.

With 18 balls to go, Superchargers eased back into third place after being pushed down to fourth by Southern Brave’s tense win at Welsh Fire earlier in the day.

Crawley and Dawid Malan shared 63 and 56 with Dan Lawrence, and he came out on top with his second fifty of the tournament, which placed him at the top of the organization’s run-scoring charts.

England’s Test opener hit four elegant fours in the first six balls of the chase and two sixes over the leg-side as he kicked for home. The opener has stated that he remains eager to play at international level in all formats.

Crawley told Sky Sports, “I try to keep the fundamentals the same, but I anticipate more shots than I do in a red-ball game.”

“That’s what I’ve changed this year, and it’s worked.”

That made it easy for the visitors to defeat Spirit at 135-3 on a slow and difficult pitch, led by England legend Andrew Flintoff and led by England’s Harry Brook, the visitors’ coach.

Jamie Smith hit four fours and a six as he fell, and Ollie Pope needed 38 balls to get his 52 not out. In Spirit’s final 33 balls of innings, there was only one boundary.

Spirit must win their final two games and appoint a series of positive outcomes in order to achieve a top-three finish, not by mathematicians.

Archer andamp; Cartwright seal crucial Brave victory

Sophia Gardens’ Hundred men’s competition

Southern Brave 129-8 (100 balls): Cartwright 51* (19), Henry 2-5

Welsh Fire 125-8 (100 balls): Kohler-Cadmore 25 (28), Archer 3-20

Brave won by four runs.

After three straight losses, Southern Brave won by four runs over Welsh Fire at Sophia Gardens, which was previously unavailable.

The hosts’ hopes were shattered when Tom Kohler-Cadmore was caught off James Coles for 25 after Fire needed 16 of the final 10 balls to win the match.

Chris Jordan held his composure, with Fire finishing 123-85 and Jofra Archer taking 3-20, before Matt Henry was only able to get a six from the final ball.

After Brave’s innings had been struggling at 71-5 from 71 balls when he came in at number seven, Hilton Cartwright’s unbeaten 51 off just 19 balls proved the difference.

With just one win out of five matches, Cartwright’s five sixes in his knock reduced Brave to 129-8 on a slow surface against Fire, whose hopes of qualifying for the knockouts are almost over.

With a score of 2-5, New Zealand seamer Matt Henry’s second-most-efficient bowling performance in The Hundred men’s competition made a positive first impression with the ball, with Brave coming up to 18-1 after the powerplay.

Chris Green and David Payne both took two wickets each for Fire, making James Vince’s 29 the only notable addition from the top order.

Jonny Bairstow aggressively started, whacking 22 from 10 balls before being dismissed by Craig Overton, and Fire started with a 46-3 lead from their first 25 balls.

As Fire’s middle order buckled under the pressure, Archer added Luke Wells and Paul Walter to his list, then removed Steve Smith for 13.

What’s going on Thursday?

As the women’s teams play at The Oval at 15:00 BST, Trent Rockets and Oval Invincibles will both be hoping to recover from defeats in their previous games.

The men’s game follows at 18:30 BST, and it becomes the top of the table contest there.

Although his wife Vicky reportedly filed for divorce in October of this year, former BBC news host Huw Edwards is said to still be wearing his wedding ring.

Former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards has been spotted in public with his wedding ring still firmly on his finger, despite reports that his marriage to wife Vicky Flind has broken down.

The disgraced broadcaster, 64, was photographed in Swansea earlier this week, marking his birthday with miniature bottles of prosecco. He was wearing his wedding band in the images.

Vicky Flind and Edwards had five children before they were married for 30 years. However, Flind’s divorce was reportedly announced in October 2024.

He had left the family home and their long marriage had ended, according to earlier reports. His wedding band was clearly visible in the photos taken in Wales, where he was seen heading to his car while wearing a baseball cap and three small fizz bottles.

His public reputation is in decline, and he was recently spotted. Edwards was once one of the most well-known faces on British television, but he has since pleaded guilty to three counts of producing child pornography.

After pleading guilty to possessing seven Category A images, the most serious, along with dozens of Category B and C images, he was given a six-month sentence with a two-year suspended sentence.

Although Edwards avoided a jail term right away, his sentencing demonstrated just how far he was from jail.

After learning about his significant depressive disorder and the significant dangers he would encounter while in custody, the court sentenced him to a suspended sentence. Along with receiving a suspended sentence, Edwards was required to complete a 40-day Sex Offender Treatment Program and attend 25 rehab sessions to address both his alcohol and mental health.

He also lost his career over the incident, and Edwards resigned from the BBC in April 2024, a year after he last appeared on air to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Since then, the Welsh journalist has kept an extremely low profile, only being seen a handful of times. Earlier this year, he was photographed vaping in public, with onlookers describing him as “a shadow of his former, super-confident self”.

Flind, a TV producer, has not made any public remarks about their current relationship. She had previously received praise for supporting Edwards throughout his mental health struggles and his wife’s remarks about his mental health issues at the time.

US vice president visits troops amid protests in Washington, DC crackdown

US Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met with National Guard personnel at the city’s main train station, bringing prominent White House support to the city’s streets in Washington, DC.

As protesters chanted “free DC” during the most recent tense interlude from President Donald Trump’s crackdown in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, the vice president asserted.

As he gave the troops burgers, Vance said, “We appreciate everything you’re doing.” Vance cited the protesters’ yellings, saying, “They seem to hate the idea that Americans can enjoy their communities.

A striking scene that Vance and Hegseth made during which White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Vance both made eye contact with the Democratic-led city.

Federal law enforcement agencies began patrolling areas of Washington, DC on August 8 with the addition of the FBI and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Following a “crime emergency” under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which temporarily gave the city’s Metropolitan Police federal authority, on August 11, President Trump declared a “crime emergency” under Section 740 of the Home Rule Act.

In Washington, an estimated 1, 900 soldiers are stationed. More than half of the states where Republicans control are Republican. They’ve mostly been seen around downtown areas, including the National Mall and DC Metro stops, aside from Union Station.

Vehicle crash involving the National Guard

A civilian car collided with a police vehicle less than a mile (1. 6 km) from the US Capitol on Wednesday at the intersection of life in the city and a military presence. According to DC Fire Department spokesman Vito Maggiolo, one person was trapped inside the car after the accident and needed to be pulled out by emergency personnel. The patient had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

What caused the crash wasn’t immediately known. A tan-colored armored vehicle twice the height of a civilian car with a crushed side was seen in a video posted online showing the aftermath of the collision.

“You visit our city, and you do it,” you say? “Seriously” In the video, a woman yelled at the soldiers.

More than 550 people have been detained so far, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi, and additional arrests could be made for $500 from the US Marshals Service. “We will restore DC’s safety,” the pledge reads! On social media, Bondi posted.

As she attended a back-to-school event with teachers and staff, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser attempted to balance the political situation in her favor and the reality in front of her.

She said, “This is not the same time as what we experienced last year when we opened school. Bowser said she would concentrate on politics and told teachers at schools that “your job is to love on the kids, teach them, make sure that they are prepared, and trust that I’m going to do the right thing for all of us.”

Despite the militarized environment, Bowser argued that children should “joy as they approach this school year””. Washington’s public schools re-convene on Monday for the fall semester.

According to city statistics, the city’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) made 61 arrests per day on average in 2024. The Trump administration has not specified whether the arrest figures it has listed only federal agents and do not include those made by MPD officers.

According to the police department’s weekly statistics, DC crime rates have remained largely unchanged from a year ago.

As of Tuesday, the city’s overall crime rate is unchanged from before the crackdown, which was 7% lower year over year. According to the data, DC has also experienced the same decreases in property crime and violent crime as it did before.

Trump has defended his decision to place soldiers in the US capital to stop a wave of violent crime. Officials in cities have refuted that claim, citing data from federal and city statistics that show violent crime has decreased significantly since it last soared in 2023.

The president claimed that the crime data is fabricated without providing any proof. Unnamed sources cited by the US Department of Justice as launching an investigation into whether the numbers were manipulated in a report released on Tuesday.

rifles and shotguns

Since Trump began bringing federal agents into the city, the White House has praised the number of firearms law enforcement has seize. US Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed that the operation had removed 76 illegal firearms from the streets along with more than 500 arrests in a social media post on Wednesday.

According to a report from The Washington Post on Tuesday, federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., will no longer file charges against those who violate local law prohibiting people from carrying rifles or shotguns in the country’s capital.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the new policy won’t prevent prosecutors from prosecuting those accused of crimes involving illegal weapons, such as a convicted felon found with a gun.

She said, “We will continue to seize all prohibited and illegal firearms.”

With limited exceptions, the DC code in question prohibits carrying a rifle or shotgun. In a statement to the Washington Post, Pirro, a close ally of Trump, claimed that the law is incompatible with two US Supreme Court decisions that expand gun rights.

A separate DC law that forbids handguns was overturned by the court in 2008, and it now grants individuals the right to keep firearms in their homes for self-defense. The court ruled in 2022 that any gun-control law must be based on the nation’s historical traditions to be effective.
