Poland briefly closes airspace as NATO increases presence in the Baltic Sea

As Russia launches a new wave of strikes against Ukraine, Poland has briefly closed some of its airspace southeast of the city’s capital Warsaw due to “unplanned military activity.”

The transatlantic security bloc NATO announced that its mission in the Baltic Sea is being strengthened in response to drone incursions in Denmark and reported drone sightings in Norway with the deployment of Polish and allies in its airspace on Sunday.

As diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine falter, new information highlights the rising tension in the region, which raises the possibility of a wider conflict erupting into Europe.

After Russia launched strikes on Ukraine, the Polish armed forces reported in the most recent incident that it scrambled aircraft to ensure the security of its airspace.

The actions were described as preventive and intended to secure airspace and safeguard people, according to the statement.

Up until early in the morning, Lublin and Rzeszow’s airspace was expected to be closed.

As of 03:00 GMT on Sunday, Ukraine’s air force had issued air raid alerts in response to Russian strikes.

Russian drones intercepted earlier this month by Polish and NATO forces entering Poland’s airspace. This was their first direct military retaliation against Moscow since the Kremlin’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian prime minister of foreign affairs, warned NATO and the EU that “any aggression against my country will be met with a decisive response.”

Lavrov insisted at the UN General Assembly on Saturday that Moscow was prepared to react if provoked but that it had no intentions to attack the West.

In response to a string of incidents in Denmark, NATO announced on Saturday that it would be upgrading its presence in the Baltic Sea with an air-defence frigate and other assets, including “intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms.”

Unidentified drones were reportedly spotted overnight on Saturday near military installations.

Copenhagen Airport, the busiest airport in the Nordic region, was also forced to close for several hours late on Monday due to the presence of several large drones in its airspace. In the days that followed, five smaller Danish airports, both for business and for military, temporarily closed.

The incursions, according to Danish authorities, are hybrid attacks, and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called them “the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date.”

Police in neighboring Norway announced on Saturday that they were looking into possible drone sightings close to Norway’s Oerland Air Force base, which is the main hub for Norway’s F-35 jets.

A joint headquarters for the Norwegian armed forces told the Reuters news agency, “The guards at the base made several observations outside the base’s perimeter early on Saturday.”

Brynjar Stordal said in a separate statement to the AFP news agency, “The investigation will find out what it was.”

He claimed that “at least two drones” flew “for about an hour” in a restricted area close to the base before disappearing.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt in Germany reported on Saturday that Schleswig-Holstein, a state in northern Germany, had been spotted over the state on Friday.

He claimed that he wants to make air safety regulations more stringent so that drones can be shot down by the armed forces.

Defense ministers from about 10 EU countries made the announcement on Friday that building a “drone wall” to secure their borders is a priority.

According to state news agency RIA Novosti, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the measures would “accrobate the military and political tensions on our continent.”

From England contender to reputation in tatters – Potter’s fall from grace

After spending a short time at Chelsea and West Ham, Graham Potter’s downward trend has caused him to leave the highly anticipated coach, who was widely regarded as Sir Gareth Southgate’s potential England replacement.

After only eight months in charge, Potter was fired by West Ham, leaving them 19th in the Premier League. His reign came after seven months at Stamford Bridge before he was dealt a similar fate.

He claimed that Chelsea’s “perfect storm” caused him to take a job and that his appointment coincided with the club’s new owners, who fired Thomas Tuchel in September 2022 to appoint Potter, who were on a £323m spending spree in the January transfer window.

A squad that was too big for the changing room to fit them all in, led by Potter, a meticulous coach who lived on time and structure at Brighton. In April of this year, he was fired.

Potter has been completely destroyed by a similarly chaotic West Ham environment, leaving his reputation, which he carefully built, and a gifted Brighton team, in ruins.

Potter’s disappointment at West Ham will likely outweigh that of Chelsea, where he was dismissed, a decision that came with some agreement because of the hectic, unstable environment that accompanied his tenure under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

After leaving Chelsea, Potter waited 637 days to make what he saw as a carefully calculated return to the game, believing West Ham as the place where he should flourish once more.

Potter referred to West Ham as being “a little like Christmas for the adults.”

Instead, it turned into a drawn-out nightmare that eventually came to an end, even though West Ham’s timing still drew questions because Potter had been given the opportunity to handle media duties in advance of Monday night’s Everton game.

Potter was a highly regarded, measured individual who was in the Football Association’s post-Southgate calculations and who had also attracted Everton’s interest when they dismissed Sean Dyche. He came to West Ham refreshed and with his reputation intact.

He had steadily advanced, becoming more and more of a constructor of teams and clubs than a quick fix fixer, which made him unsuitable for clubs as demanding both on and off the pitch as Chelsea.

Potter immediately entered a hole at West Ham after waiting so long for what he thought was the best club for his managerial and coaching skills.

Prior to being appointed manager of Swansea in June 2018, he rose to fame at Ostersund in Sweden, and his successful move to Brighton followed a year later.

With a smart hiring team that discovered gems like midfielders Moises Caicedo and Alex Mac Allister, Brighton was the ideal setting for Potter, who enjoyed patience and planning under owner Tony Bloom and technical director Dan Ashworth.

Before he left, Potter led Brighton to join Chelsea in the Premier League when they finished fourth after winning four of their first six games, including an opening-weekend win at Manchester United. Potter was at his best on the training ground.

While at Stamford Bridge, Potter can point to his leadership of Chelsea in the Champions League’s final eight, but like at West Ham, Potter occasionally appeared to be swept up in events before being consumed by a ruthless sacking.

Potter’s defeat came from joining two clubs with completely different approaches to Brighton, where Bloom continued to play even after only two victories in 19 games. Potter never lost the trust and faith of the hierarchy in the same way.

Martin Keown, a former England defender, stated to the BBC: “Potter was at Chelsea not very long ago. He might have led England.

Now let’s take a look at his Chelsea and West Ham winningscorers. His next Premier League job, if he does, is very important to him.

Potter hasn’t consistently excelled in his Premier League career with high win percentages.

He had a 28% winning ratio in 120 games at Brighton, winning 34 and losing 42. He won six games or 26% at Chelsea, while he won seven at West Ham, and he was 32%.

Potter’s strength as a coach was always the use of organization and tactical discipline, but he even seemed lost at West Ham, especially at set pieces.

You saw the set pieces when you watched them play Spurs, Keown said.

This season, they have conceded seven goals using setpieces. No real direction was present, just a group of schoolboys. That has to be returned to the manager eventually.

As a second high-profile Premier League failure occurred, the typically calm Potter exterior was replaced by a person who appeared to be carrying the weight of the world.

Potter’s next destination is entirely guesswork.

Although the continent may ask, where he might locate a configuration that suits him, the idea of a significant Premier League position is incredibly fantastic.

Can set-piece coach get Newcastle’s giants firing again?

Images courtesy of Getty

At Newcastle United, Nick Woltemade made a quick home. in a number of ways.

After moving from Stuttgart last month and breaking club records, the 6′ 6″ forward realized for the first time in his career that he wasn’t the tallest player in the dressing room.

The German is now surrounded by other powerful figures, including William Osula, Sven Botman, Joelinton, and Dan Burn (6′ 7in).

Although not all of these players start for Newcastle at once, this formidable side still has everything needed to pose a threat on set-plays.

However, this season’s giants in front of goal have not yet experienced this.

Before facing set-piece masters Arsenal on Sunday, the Newcastle head coach said, “We have the players, we have the height, we have the delivery.” However, something is not quite clicking, and no coach should be held accountable for this. That is unfair to me.

We ought to be the world’s best, he said.

It is instructive to note that Howe posed similar queries almost a year ago.

In the Premier League, Newcastle had just gone a whopping 50 corners without a goal, but they eventually started firing once more.

By the time Newcastle faced the Carabao Cup final of the previous year in March, Howe even recognized the value of “a set-play could win us the game… let’s go into the detail that could swing it for us” (p. 63).

After discovering Liverpool’s weaknesses in deeper areas of the box, Newcastle spent the following weeks working on free kicks and corners.

The routines at Wembley did what was most important, and they put an end to a 70-year wait for a significant domestic trophy.

The work of assistant manager Jason Tindall and set-play analyst Kieran Taylor, who contributed to Newcastle scoring a respectable 13 goals from free kicks and corners in the Premier League last year, was well illustrated in the game’s opener that day.

However, Howe had been considering hiring an additional set-play coach to help with the load for some time given the volume of work involved.

And when Martin Mark joined Newcastle in June, Midtjylland’s set-piece innovators record was unquestionable.

Even after penalties, Midtjylland’s record of set-play goals (19) and the country’s top flight counterparts (including those from other teams) last year contributed to their title triumph.

Mark’s “hunger really shined through,” according to Kristian Bak, the head of sport at Midtjylland.

He defended the notion that we should be the best in the world in that field, saying of the 32-year-old. Every day must have set-pieces, and for him, having someone like that is a gift.

Long throws are made back

This season, Newcastle’s approach has definitely changed.

In the Premier League, the Magpies only launched one long throw into the box last year. Opta claims that Howe’s side have already launched 13 long throws into the penalty area in the first five games of the new campaign.

The black-and-whites make long throws in the same way that Newcastle’s rugby-style restarts have a wider trend in the game – they have started by pressing the ball into touch from kick-off to put the opposition under pressure deep inside their own half.

Although the Premier League has an average of 3.4 long throws into the penalty area per game this year, that is a small sample size. In order to put that into context, the 2020-21 campaign average was 0.9% per game.

No wonder Thomas Tuchel, England’s manager, said “the long throw is back”?

When Liverpool visited St James’ Park last month on a night where manager Arne Slot admitted that “you cannot control a game of football if every ball is thrown into your 18-yard box,” they found out.

In such a circumstance, Newcastle actually scored their first goal. With his team-mates still forward, the full-back was able to pick out Bruno Guimaraes’ head at the far post thanks to Tino Livramento’s long throw that was headed back to him out to the left.

Then, for Newcastle’s second, goalkeeper Nick Pope stepped forward to take a free kick and drove Burn’s long ball forward before being blocked by substitute Osula.

As the 10-man Newcastle’s match grew more chaotic, two goals from two dead-ball situations brought the score to a dead-ball.

A truly gifted man

Newcastle’s challenge is finding a way to consistently cause such mayhem.

Only four Premier League teams have attempted to score more goals from set pieces than Howe’s team (15), but Newcastle have only attempted to score one goal from a corner or free kick in all competitions.

Newcastle (1.56) are currently a long way off Arsenal (3.55), who are at the top of the table in this area.

Newcastle have yet to concede from a set-piece, but Howe was the first to acknowledge that they have “work to do” in the opposite direction.

Will it take some time, then?

He said, “I hope not,” adding that. That’s not the plan, they say. The difference between set-plays and plays is what is intended. We have been doing that for a long time, in my opinion.

It’s the perfect away performance – but we didn’t when you look at games like the Bournemouth game [a goalless draw], if you play as we did, defend as you did, and win the game 1-0 on a set-play.

Arsenal, the team that hosts Sunday, has undoubtedly abused these circumstances.

Set-pieces have been the key to half of Arsenal’s Premier League goals this season, including the winner against Manchester United and the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

In that regard, Arsenal is still the best team to defeat.

But Thomas Gronnemark, a freelance throw-in expert who worked with Mark at Midtjylland last season, has no doubts that Newcastle will eventually fall off set-plays.

He claimed that Martin is a “really talented guy.” Yes, he is very young, but I don’t care whether someone is between the ages of 15 and 80.

Shoppers rave ‘my jawline looks more defined and toned’ with £17 chin strap to rival Skims

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article35949302.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_new-canva-2025-09-23T110319953.jpg

We’ve found the ideal alternative that costs less than £17 and is the perfect choice if you missed your chance to purchase Skims’ viral chin contouring strap.

Kim Kardashian’s sell-out sensation proved to be a necessity for beauty lovers, selling out despite the price tag of £52. The wrap, which “boasts Skims’ signature sculpting fabric and features collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support,” is described as a “must-have face wrap” and is meant to be a piece of “formwear” for your face.

Many people might question the necessity of the Face Wrap given that it costs more than £50 and is meant to “snatch” you when you wake up in the morning.

This PLANTIFIQUE Chin Strap for Face Contouring is currently on sale for the much more affordable price of £16.10. However, beauty enthusiasts may have found a more affordable solution with this.

The breathable and skin-friendly fabric, which is made of premium ice silk (76.8% nylon, 23.2% spandex), is designed to be gentle on the skin while providing lasting comfort.

The V-Line shaping mask, which is made of flexible, stretchy fabric, perfectly adapts to the contours of your face to ensure a snug and effective fit for the best results. This affordable chin strap is the ideal addition to anyone’s self-care regimen because it is suitable for all face types.

This chin strap has earned its spot in a lot of beauty routines thanks to a majority of the 70% of 5-star reviews. One satisfied customer remark, “I’ve been using the Plantifique chip strap for a couple of weeks, and I’m honestly impressed. It’s completely painless and comfortable, and I only use it for 45 minutes per day. My skin is soft, breathable, and free of any marks or irritants. I initially had a skeptical outlook, but now I’m starting to notice that my jawline is more defined and toned. It stays put the entire time when I use it for chores or watching TV. I’d definitely suggest trying this if you’re looking for a quick, easy, and non-invasive way to help you tighten your jaws.

Another customer exclaims, “I was extremely bloated and water retented the first time I tried it.” I put on the strap while working on my laptop after my morning skincare routine and kept it on for about an hour. My face appeared noticeably more contoured and “snapped” when I took it off.

They continue, saying, “I’m only using it for three times, and I’m already seeing a difference in its effectiveness and how simple it is to incorporate into my weekly routine.” If you’re interested in learning how to contour your face, try it.

A third chimes in, “I read a lot and saw the beginnings of a double chin.” I had no idea how effective this would be. However, I’ve noticed a difference after using it for five days, using it for a half-hour each. It’s lovely, light, and cool, and it’s suitable for indoor use during regular tasks. I would highly advise getting one because it works for me. There is nothing to gain.

One customer has a complaint about using this, noting that it hasn’t changed how my face looks. The results are disappointing and as described, but I’m disappointed.

Israeli team out of top Italian cycling race over Gaza war protest concerns

Due to concerns over public safety, the Israel-Premier Tech cycling team has been cut out of the upcoming Giro dell’Emilia competition in Italy, according to race organizers.

Following the recent disruptions by pro-Palestinian protesters who took to the streets of Madrid to protest Israel-Premier Tech’s participation, the race’s final stage was canceled, according to the decision made on Saturday.

Since Israel’s invasion of Gaza, which almost 66 000 Palestinians have died in an operation that the UN has hailed as a “genocide,” more people have been calling for its inclusion in international sporting events, festivals, and music competitions.

The one-day Giro dell’Emilia will take place on October 4 and will finish in Bologna, with Adriano Amici, organiser of the event, saying, “It is with regret that I have to forgo the participation of the Team this year” in light of recent events and given the characteristics of the final circuit, for the safety of all athletes, technical staff, and spectators.

Amici told the Reuters news agency, “We had to make this decision for reasons of public security.”

“The Israel Tech riders and others are in too much danger,” he said. The final circuit of the race is five times, he said, raising the risk of the race being interrupted.

During a nationwide strike in Italy called by trade unions to protest Israel’s genocide in Gaza, police in Milan and pro-Palestinian protesters clashed on Monday.

The Madonna di San Luca sanctuary, which is close to Bologna’s historic center, where there is a large student population and a long history of left-wing politics, is where the Giro dell’Emilia race ends.

The center-left Democratic Party-controlled Bologna’s local government demanded Israel-Premier Tech’s inclusion in the race, citing the Israeli government’s role in perpetrating “grave crimes against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.”

The city’s sport councillor, Roberta Li Calzi, applauded the city’s decision to omit the Israeli team, which is owned by Israeli-Canadian property developer Sylvan Adams.

The World Jewish Congress refers to Adams as the “committed to promoting Israel’s global image” as the president of the Israel region.

According to a statement from Calzi, “it would have been hypocritical to view the presence of a team connected to this]Israeli] government as insignificant.”

Israel is being under increasing pressure from all sides for its brutal war and continued disregard for international orders to end Palestinian human rights.

The governing body of European football, UEFA, is expected to decide soon whether to axe Israel’s men’s football team from all competitions that fall under its purview from the country. The men’s side is currently attempting to qualify for the World Cup in 2020. If a majority of the 20-member UEFA ruling committee decides to forbid Israel from games, it is anticipated to do so.
