Manchester Utd Outcasts Could Return, Says Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Friday that a series of outcasts from his squad could be handed a “new life” at Old Trafford if they do not secure a move before the transfer window closes.

Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been made to train away from the United first-team squad.

Interest in the quartet has not progressed due to United’s valuations, and Amorim hinted they could feature in his future plans if they remain at the club beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.

Garnacho has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, while Real Betis are keen on bringing back Antony after his successful loan spell last season.

Interest in Sancho is complicated by the winger’s reported £350, 000-a-week ($470, 000) wages.

“I know that it’s not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear they want to play in a different club”, Amorim said on Friday.

“So, we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, I have to try to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future.

” Then the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter.

“When the window is closed, it’s a different history. When the window is closed, we have to receive the players and then a new life. Anything can happen”.

Despite a positive performance, United’s Premier League season got off to a losing start in a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was at fault for the only goal, scored by Riccardo Calafiori.

Amorim left out Andre Onana after a hamstring injury meant the Cameroonian missed the majority of pre-season.

Onana is expected to come back into the side for Sunday’s visit to Fulham, but Amorim refused to confirm that change.

“Onana is ready to play like last week, so we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper”, added the Portuguese coach.

‘US would never give up being number one but golf needs global tour’

Sir Nick Faldo says it is “really disappointing” that top men’s professional golf has not adopted a global schedule and remains dominated by the United States.

Britain’s greatest player of the modern era was speaking in the week that new PGA Tour boss Brian Rolapp promised “significant change” for the most lucrative and prestigious circuit.

The recently appointed chief executive unveiled a new competition committee, chaired by Tiger Woods, which has been charged with altering current formats in future years.

“The goal is not incremental change. The goal is significant change,” Rolapp promised.

This nine-man panel does not include anyone from Europe, despite the PGA Tour’s strategic alliance with the Wentworth-based DP World Tour. “It’s an important partnership that we want to figure out how to grow,” Rolapp said.

“I think conversations with them and how they might fit in a new competitive model will certainly be part of this committee’s work.”

But Faldo sees little evidence that the PGA Tour is prepared to embrace a truly global calendar. “That’s really disappointing,” the six-times major champion told BBC Sport.

Faldo shares Rory McIlroy’s vision for a circuit that would take the best players around the world rather than staying predominantly in the US, which stages three of the game’s four majors.

This week the PGA Tour announced that a new Signature Event will be staged at Donald Trump’s Doral course in Miami. It means there will now be nine of these big-money elevated tournaments, all staged in the US.

“America would never give up being number one and, yeah, I think it’s a shame,” Faldo said.

McIlroy called for a world tour to reunite the men’s game after the split that followed the arrival of the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV circuit in 2022.

“I thought after the ruckus, the disturbance with LIV coming on board, when they were talking about all that they’d create a real global tour,” Faldo added. “We should be doing something like that.

“I’d love them to be actually playing as a top, whatever, 100, 120 players, going around the world, no appearance fees. You’re playing for massive prize money, but that is the world tour.

“That’s the one to be on, and you travel around, you could organise the schedule.

“Like, we’re going this direction in the world for three weeks, guys, and then you’re going to have two weeks off, and then we all go another direction for three weeks.

“It could have been done. And if you made that the pinnacle, everybody would strive to be on that tour, and you could make it very volatile.

“It doesn’t matter what your name is. If you’re playing badly for those three weeks, well, maybe you get booted off and you can go to another tour and you can qualify to come back.

“It needs a bit more competitiveness, rather than the guarantees now of not having to perform for massive amounts.”

The 68-year-old Englishman is hosting this week’s Betfred British Masters at the Belfry, the last qualifying event for Europe’s Ryder Cup team. He says he’s involved in talks with new backers to secure the tournament’s future.

It is an important event on the DP World Tour, where the leading 10 players for the season secure cards to play in the US the following year. Critics suggest this is a talent drain that renders the European circuit as a “feeder” tour.

Faldo believes leading venues in the UK and on the continent should be used for the biggest tournaments outside the majors, as well as courses in America, Australia, Asia and Africa.

“If the public knew and television knew you had the best 100 players coming to your town or your country, my goodness, how good would that be,” he said.

“Rather that than saying, ‘well, I’m going to have a tournament and I don’t really know what I’m going to get’. It’s harsh on the sponsors. It really is.

“The sponsors want to know ‘I’m going to get X number of good players and I’m going to have a great event’.

“In America, they’re forking out 20, 25 million [dollars] to create a tournament. It’s a heck of a lot, isn’t it? We’ve got to find a formula to give to the sponsors.

Marseille duo’s row was like ‘bar fight’ – De Zerbi

Images courtesy of Getty
After an altercation between the team-mates that resembled a “bar fight,” according to Marseille manager Roberto de Zerbi, both Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe were put on the transfer list.

The incident occurred after the French club lost to Rennes for the first Ligue 1 game, scoring in stoppage time despite being reduced to 10 men in the 31st minute.

I have this question for you. What happens if two people, two employees, two workers, two attorneys get into a fight at your place of employment? De Zerbi remarked.

A team-mate (Darryl Bakola, who was having a medical emergency), was in the middle of a bar fight in front of the sporting director and the coach.

De Zerbi claimed that no teeth were broken during the fight, but it was a one-of-a-kind encounter in all of my professional football career.

“For the first time in my career, I had no idea what to say or do,” said the former. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I’m from the street and have seen fights before, but this is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

The club’s bodyguards tried to break them apart, they said. They are typically supposed to keep us safe from others, not ourselves.

While Raymond’s mother Veronique called the club’s decision to put the midfielder on the transfer list a “betrayal,” according to Marseille president Pablo Longoria, who described the incident as being “extremely violent.”

De Zerbi then responded, “The mother has forgotten two things. I made the decision to make him the captain, and in a year, I showed her son more love and respect than I did my own son.

“I find it crazy that Rabiot’s mother claims that we gave Greenwood another chance.” Here, we’re referring to one’s private life. Talking about other people is inappropriate. We’re bringing up a workplace fight.

Rowe, an England Under-21 international, initially signed for Marseille from Norwich in August 2024 before making the move permanent this summer. Bologna has been linked to the 22-year-old forward, who has scored three goals in 31 appearances for the club.

Rabiot, a former Paris St-Germain player, signed for Marseille in September on a free transfer after five years at Juventus, where he has scored ten goals in 32 games.

Eberechi Eze’s Move A Sign Of Arsenal’s ‘Ambition,’ Says Arteta

https://www.channelstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/AFP__20250518__477Y6WM__v1__Preview__FblEngPrArsenalNewcastle.jpg

Arsenal’s move to win the race to sign Eberechi Eze is a sign of the Gunners ‘ ambition to end a 22-year wait to win the Premier League, said manager Mikel Arteta on Friday.

Eze appeared to be headed to the other side of north London and a move to Tottenham from Crystal Palace until Arsenal pounced to reportedly close in on a £60 million ($81 million) deal plus £7.5 million in add-ons.

The arrival of the England international would take Arsenal’s spending in the transfer window to around £260 million following the signings of Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke.

Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League for each of the past three seasons and last won a trophy five years ago.

“We are showing the ambition that we are here to win major trophies and to keep evolving and improving every single year and that comes with demands and those demands are clear”, said Arteta ahead of Leeds ‘ visit to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

“We want to be in front in the league, not just chasing or reacting or being behind, but in front of it and every decision that we make in every area of the club is to achieve that”.

The move for Eze came just hours after Arsenal learned that Kai Havertz faces a spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

However, Arteta denied the two were related.

“We are not reacting to anything”, added the Spaniard.

“We’ve been very prepared and understanding what we could do and we have decided this is the moment to do it”.

Eze was not in the Palace squad that beat Fredrikstad in the Eagles ‘ Conference League play-off on Thursday, but Arteta does not believe he will be registered in time to face Leeds.

The 27-year-old began his career at the Arsenal academy — he said he cried for a week when he was let go — and reportedly desperate to return to his boyhood club.

“The better the feeling, the stronger the feeling, I think the better”, said Arteta.

“It brings a different edge, a different will and emotion to what you do. I think that always brings something extra”.

Arsenal began their quest for the Premier League title by winning 1-0 away to Manchester United on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Oscar Hartland, 16, who portrayed Neil Smithy and Nessa and Smithy’s son in the wildly popular television series Gavin and Stacey, received just two grades this week.

Oscar Hartland, the 16 year old actor who played Baby Neil in Gavin and Stacey alongside James Corden and Ruth Jones, has failed his GCSEs – but he has a back-up plan!

The young actor, who played Neil in the hit series Nessa and Smithy, only managed to pass two subjects this week.

Despite this, Oscar continues to be enthralled and has chosen to leave school to pursue a career in show business, combining his acting and singing passions.

Oscar, who was 14 when he appeared on The Voice Kids and advanced to the semi-finals, collected his GCSE results this week, but only received two passes. His two preferred subjects, English and music, were almost passed on an A.

Oscar said, “I got a whopping two!” But I’m happy with that because I wanted to get a top-notch music education. I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t try that hard because I’m not an academic.

He continued, telling the Mail Online, “The hard way,” that he was prepared to transition into music as a musician. “Is an executive at one of the top recording labels going to inquire about my GCSE results?” Not in my opinion.

Oscar entered the world of showbiz fresh out the womb, when he appeared in four episodes of Gavin and Stacey as Neil the Baby, the product of a one-night stand between Smithy and Nessa.

He returned to the nation’s favourite sitcom as a 10-year-old Neil the Baby in the 2019 Christmas special and again in 2024 as a teen. The gifted schoolboy had a starring role in the final episode last Christmas when he sang the Beatles’ song Blackbird while playing the guitar, watched by a staggering 19.1m viewers.

Oscar, however, doesn’t blame his distracting television shows for his poor GCSE results at St Martin’s Comprehensive in Caerphilly, South Wales.

He claims that the issue stems from his having “hated school” and having his head “was always in other places” while attending college. The aspiring musician believes that those who aren’t naturally academic are subject to a flawed system.

According to earlier this year’s statistics, Gavin and Stacey’s final episode is the most watched TV program in the UK on Christmas Day in 23 years.

Official ratings for the sitcom’s 90-minute farewell, which was the centrepiece of BBC One’s 2024 festive schedules, are 19.1 million. This is the biggest audience for a Christmas Day broadcast on UK television since the episode of Only Fools & Horses on December 25 2001, which attracted 21.3 million viewers.

The ratings agency Barb has released the figures, which include everyone who watched and recorded the program up until seven days later, which is the industry standard for determining TV audience size.

Additionally, those who watched on smartphones, PCs, and tablets are included. Vengeance Most Fowl, a brand-new Wallace &amp, Gromit adventure, did well to win 16.3 million viewers on Christmas Day 2024.

The figures place Gavin & Stacey and Wallace & Gromit in third place, surpassing Line of Duty, which attracted 15.8 million viewers for its 2021 finale, with the top two most-watched scripted programs of the decade.

The biggest TV audience of the 2020s remains the broadcast by former prime minister Boris Johnson on March 23 2020 announcing the first Covid-19 lockdown, which was shown simultaneously on six TV channels and drew an average audience of 28.3 million.
