Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre shot a six-under 66 in brutal conditions at Kingsbarns to claim a share of the clubhouse lead before the second round of the weather-affected Alfred Dunhill Links Championship was suspended.

The home favourite and European Ryder Cup star made seven birdies and a solitary bogey to join South Africa’s Richard Sterne at 12 under overall.

Sterne’s compatriot Louis Oosthuizen was a shot further back, while Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin and Scotland’s Scott Jamieson are in a nine-man group at 10 under, and England’s Matt Fitzpatrick two shots adrift at eight under.

The world number nine, who started on the 10th tee, collected birdies on the 11th, 12th and 14th holes and was equally impressive after the turn, with the sole blemish to his card arriving on the second during a run of three birdies in five holes.

“It was almost a perfect round of golf, especially once the weather came in, just a lovely round,” said MacIntyre, 29.

“It’s difficult when it gets this windy. It’s hard to hit the ball good with the wind.

“So I was having to try to fight the wind on certain holes and wasn’t comfortable – but I made some beautiful shots.”

Meanwhile, England’s Nathan Kimsey made nine successive birdies at the Old Course to write his name into the DP World Tour record books, becoming only the third player to achieve the feat after Matt Wallace two years ago and Australian James Nitties in 2019.

The 32-year-old, who ended the day on five under after a 68, started his stunning streak on the second hole after a par at the first.

Almost a third of the 168-man field will complete their second rounds from 08:00 BST on Saturday, with the third round scheduled to get under way at 12:30 with a shotgun start.

Murray finds socials with bunker trouble

While former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray’s prowess off the tee and around the greens has caught the eye, a poorly executed bunker shot found its way on to social media on Friday.

The unfortunate moment for the Scot also drew laughter from his playing partner Eddie Pepperell, along with MacIntyre and his partner Brett Overman.

Alejandro del Rey and Downton Abbey actor Matthew Goode are in a four-way tie at the top of the team leaderboard on 24 under, while ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and LIV golfer Dustin Johnson are 10 shots back.

Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have rekindled their silence after Paul Bonehead’s diagnosis of prostate cancer this evening.

Liam and Noel Gallagher has broken their silence after their Oasis bandmate Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs announced he is receiving treatment for prostate cancer and will step away from several upcoming tour dates.

The Gallagher brothers addressed Bonehead’s diagnosis in a statement, saying, “We’ll see you back on stage in South America. We wish you all the best with your treatment.

The band were completely in support of Bonehead, according to a source close to Oasis’ statement to the Mirror. They obviously wanted him to play the tour, but Liam and Noel were equally as clear that his health was important.

He should only miss a few dates because he has played most of the shows. No details have been fully confirmed, but it’s possible Bonehead will fill in on rhythm guitar for the dates he won’t be able to play.

The 60-year-old musician confirmed his health news in a message to fans on X on Friday evening. The much-loved star told his millions of loyal fans: “Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which meant I could be part of this incredible tour.

He wrote, “I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Sydney because I’m having a planned break for the next phase of my care.”

Arthurs continued, “I’m really sad I’m going to miss these shows, but I’m feeling good and will be back in time for South America. If you’re going this month, have a wonderful time, and I’ll see you back onstage with the band in November.

A source close to the group told the Mirror: “The band have known about the diagnosis from the outset and were fully behind Bonehead. Of course they wanted him to play the tour, but also Liam and Noel were clear his health comes first.

He should only miss a few dates because he has played most of the shows. No details have been fully confirmed, but Bonehead may be available on rhythm guitar for the dates he is unable to play, according to them.

Arthurs has been central to the reunion of Liam and Noel, which has led to the band’s sell-out world tour. He is widely credited with helping convince the brothers to reconcile.

Noel introduced him on stage during their second night of Cardiff comeback shows by saying, “On drums, our 13th official drummer Joey Waronker. Mr. Bonehead, if it weren’t for him, none of this would have happened in the first place.

Oasis’s first live performance on the current tour is almost 16 years old. The Gallagher brothers’ relationship was repaired after their opening nights in Cardiff attracted a large crowds and put an end to the rumor.

Arthurs was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2022, and he previously experienced health issues. He later confirmed that the treatment had been successful. I had a full scan ten days ago, and it is now completely gone. “He posted at the time.

Fans continue to be affluent with the guitarist. After one supporter complained that the setlist remained unchanged, he earlier this year drew laughter on social media. In a single word, Bonehead responded, “And??????”

Inside Anthony Perkins’ life from Psycho ‘curse’ to wife’s tragic 9/11 death

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36012320.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/2_Mirror.jpg

Charlie Hunnam plays Ed Gein in Netflix’s new true crime series, but it was the late acting icon Anthony Perkins who played the original Psycho.

Following the release of Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Netflix fans have been revisiting some horror movies that drew inspiration from the killer, including Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

The 1960 picture, considered to be one of the best horror films ever made, also turned Norman Bates actor Anthony Perkins into a star.

The late actor is remembered well for his iconic role and his family is still a part of Hollywood thanks to his son, actor and director Oz Perkins.

However, Anthony also faced a lot of struggles throughout the course of his life, with his son even later describing his largest role as a “curse”.

Was Anthony Perkins’ role in Psycho inspired by Ed Gein?

Netflix’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story suggests that Ed Gein’s horrific crimes inspired the novel and adaptation of Psycho, as Norman Bates has a similar relationship with his mother that Gein had in real life.

After Augusta Gein’s death, her son preserved and boarded up the rooms she used, making a shrine to his late mother.

In the show, we even see Alfred Hitchcock and author Robert Bloch discussing Gein’s crimes in great detail, with the director showing Anthony Perkins a recreation of Geins’ home.

The Netflix series “tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, Wisconsin, became history’s most singular ghoul. He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all – that monsters aren’t born, they’re made… by us.”

Anthony Perkins’ career after Alfred Hitchcock and Norman Bates

Before appearing in Psycho, Anthony Perkins also starred in the William Wyler movie Friendly Persuasion, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The success of 1960s Psycho arguably led to Anthony being typecast, and the actor chose to buy out his Paramount contract and move to France, where he made his European film debut in 1961’s Goodbye Again.

In 1968, he returned to Hollywood and appeared in Pretty Poison that year, before starring in several critically-acclaimed films including Catch-22 and Murder on the Orient Express.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Anthony’s son Oz Perkins has described Anthony’s Psycho role as “a curse”.

He said: “In the mythology of my family, the Psycho thing was considered far more of a curse than not. I don’t think we ever had the family meeting where we all decided this was the story.

“But here’s a young actor, an extremely beautiful young man who can play anything. He’s really good. And he’s doing this sort of matinee idol thing.

“He’s playing cowboys and basketball players and baseball players, and he’s real. Girls love him. Then this important part comes his way, which is so kind of dangerously close to who he actually was.”

He added: “It’s funny because I look at a lot of my dad’s later performances and I find them very stilted and kind of strangely done, whereas the early stuff is really so impeccable. But I feel like the rock comes up, the bugs scatter, and that was Psycho.”

Anthony Perkins’ secret behind-scenes struggle

While Anthony Perkins became a huge success following his Psycho fame, American conservatism at the time meant that he was forced to hide his sexuality throughout his Hollywood career.

The star, who later married a woman, previously had relationships with actors Tab Hunter and Grover Dale, but this was all kept under wraps.

Asked whether he was surprised to learn these truths about his father as an adult, Anthony’s son Oz Perkins told the Irish Times: “The surprise about it was that it was no surprise. Right? The surprise was that we hadn’t been talked to about it.

“I don’t know who would have that talk. Maybe, even today, I’m not sure how that conversation goes for people whose public lives don’t allow it. I don’t know how that conversation happens with children.

“I certainly don’t blame anybody. But I do think that a gauze was put over everything – a membrane. Everybody seemed to know it. Certainly all of their friends. It wasn’t like [top agent] Sue Mengers and [top director] Mike Nichols were like: ‘Oh, really? You’re kidding?’”

He added: “It’s such a weird thing because, even in today’s context, it’s not safe to be that way. It’s still not safe to be gay and a movie star unless you’re going to be a ‘gay movie star’.”

Anthony Perkins’ wife and tragic death

Anthony Perkins married his wife, actress Berry Berenson, in 1973 and the pair welcomed two children.

Berry and Anthony starred opposite each other in the 1978 Alan Rudolph film Remember My Name, and she also appeared with Jeff Bridges in 1979’s Winter Kills and Malcolm McDowell in 1982’s Cat People.

The pair remained married until Anthony sadly died from Aids-related pneumonia in 1992.

Tragically, Berry was killed nine years later as a plane passenger during the 9/11 attacks when American Airlines Flight 11 was hijacked and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Anthony Perkins’ sons and family legacy

The late Anthony Perkins is survived by two sons: Oz Perkins, 51, and Elvis, 49.

Oz began his career as a child actor, playing a younger version of his father’s character Norman Bates in 1983’s Psycho II and later appearing in films like 2001’s Legally Blonde and 2009’s Star Trek.

He is now best known for his work as a director, having helmed such horror films as 2020’s Gretel and Hansel, 2024’s Longlegs and 2025’s The Monkey.
