‘I’ll take Ferguson & Wenger to dinner’ – Guardiola on 250 wins record

Celebrating a milestone of 250 Premier League victories is a special kind of accomplishment.

After Manchester City defeated Brentford 1-0, Pep Guardiola has access to an exclusive club of managers who have done the feat with a single club.

Only Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United) and Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) have previously done this, and Guardiola is already creating a list of all-fantastic guests to celebrate the occasion.

The Spaniard, who is in his 10th campaign with City, said: “It’s an honor to be along with Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. I’ll invite them to a good dinner.

“It’s a pleasure to be a part of that in Premier League history,” he declared. Now let’s go for 250 more”.

With 349 top-flight matches to the landmark, Guardiola completed it in record time, winning 55 games more quickly than Ferguson (404), with Wenger (424), who followed.

David Moyes has won 250 games in the Premier League, a feat he’s notched up at once at multiple clubs.

Sensational’s record is impressive.

Guardiola has had to be kept out of discussions about the best managers in English football.

The 54-year-old has helped City win six Premier League titles, one Champions League title, two FA Cup victories, and four League Cup victories since joining the club in 2016.

However, the club has accomplished other notable accomplishments in the span of 250 victories under Guardiola.

City won 32 of their 38 games in the 2017-18 season, making them the first team to ever score 100 points in a row. They are also the only team to have won four Premier League titles in a row.

City averaged 28 wins per season during that dynamite run of success, with only Ferguson claiming 13 titles over Guardiola’s six.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards described him as “one of the greatest ever to do it.”

“Guillermo is talking about his wins, how he’s changed football, and the tiki-taka [style of play] more,” he said.

Many people predicted it wouldn’t work when he first arrived, and his first season was a little disappointing by his standards, but they’ve since taken the game to new heights.

The standards have remained the same throughout, despite the fact that he has had to bring in players and suffer injuries.

In four of Guardiola’s nine full seasons, City have accumulated more than 90 points in the Premier League, which is a remarkable achievement given that the mark had only ever been reached on five occasions prior to his arrival in England.

With wins of 65.2% and 62.9%, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss outperforms any other manager in the division’s history.

Guardiola’s side have scored 842 goals and conceded 299 in his 349 Premier League games.

Guardiola’s long-term future is uncertain, despite the fact that he agreed to stay at City until 2027.

Rangers sack Martin after 17 games

SNS

After 17 games, Russell Martin was fired as the Rangers’ head coach, the club claiming that “results have not met expectations” despite the club’s claim that “all transition periods require some time.”

The 39-year-old was given a police escort away from the stadium after supporters attempted to stop the team’s bus leaving in a 1-1 draw at Falkirk on Sunday following which he received a police escort.

Ibrox supporters had been protesting and criticizing Martin as the season was getting off to a sluggish start.

Rangers were unable to clinch the Scottish Premiership until late September, when Club Brugge hummed them 9-1 overall in the Champions League play-offs in August.

Rangers are eighth in the Premiership and 11 points clear of Hearts as the domestic season approaches its second international break.

Martin, who was hired by Rangers’ new American owners in June on a three-year contract, only won one of his seven league games, drawing five, and departs with five victories overall.

Both first-team coach Mike Williamson and assistant Matt Gill will leave.

“Russell and his staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club,” the Rangers’ statement continued. We applaud their efforts and wish them the best of luck in the future.

Rangers seek a fourth manager in 2025.

Former MK Dons, Swansea City, and Southampton manager Martin appeared to have beaten Davide Ancelotti to the Ibrox job when he was appointed, with the Italian coach joining Botafogo after moving there.

Martin stated that “winning is how you persuade people,” and that he had promised his team would be “all in” to improve his club and this team.

The club had been looking for “a clear football style and identity,” according to Chief Executive Patrick Stewart, and success was anticipated.

Rangers are currently seeking their fourth 2025 manager.

After a 3-0 win over Celtic and a disappointing year in charge, Philippe Clement’s time in charge finally came to an end, with a Scottish Cup defeat at home to second-tier Queen’s Park.

For the remainder of the 2024-2019 season, Stewart and the Rangers tapped former team captain Barry Ferguson to lead the team.

Martin’s success in getting Southampton promoted to the Premier League through the 2024 play-offs seemed to be the qualification for the once-renamed head coach position.

However, Martin and Rangers’ fans were underwhelmed by his appointment, who only managed to win once in the English top flight.

A significant squad overhaul took place as a result of Kevin Thelwell’s addition to Ibrox over the summer as the sporting director.

Rangers made a number of purchases in English, including the signing of four loan signings and the astronomical £8 million purchase of Everton forward Youssef Chermiti. According to Thelwell, there was a net spend of about £20 million.

Forwards Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane left the team, who combined to score 45 goals last term. Martin claimed the striker had turned down his place in a draw with St Mirren, but they were replaced by Igamane.

Whoever succeeds at Rangers will inherit a team that lacks confidence, with their defense struggling to contain opponents for the majority of the season and a problem with goals.

Machine Gun Kelly admits being ‘broken’ as he opens up about mental health

https://i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/incoming/article36018173.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_The-Drop-mgk.jpg

While acknowledging that he is still feeling “broken,” Machine Gun Kelly has a very honest assessment of his mental health issues. He has admitted that he is finding solutions to his issues.

Machine Gun Kelly opened up about his mental health and feels “broken” about it. The musician, who goes by the stage name MGK, has openly discussed his issues over the years, but he now admits to working on them.

The 35-year-old, who goes by Colson Baker, has previously been very open about his issues, including drug and alcohol use and suicidal ideation. He claimed that his own problems have helped him form a lasting friendship with his devoted fanbase.

Speaking at a receent event held at the Grammy Musuem in Downtown Los Angeles, MGK said: “I found through my fan base that I think they relate a lot more to the realness or the vulnerability or maybe the archetype of someone who rose from the ashes like a phoenix or someone who’s more broken because I feel like that’s a more common feeling around the world than people who are always in control or feel good about themselves.”

The GFY singer continued, “That’s a really easy place for me to tap into because, man, for the most part, I feel broken, and I’m starting to do the work and I’ve been doing the work to put those pieces back together.”

However, MGK acknowledges that he is concerned that if he is able to heal and deal with his difficulties, he will lose his creative spark. He said, “Sometimes I get a little too scared when the pieces come back together, like, “Oh, but how can I ever write about being broken if I’m always fixed?”

And so, perhaps that was what I was feeling when my last album, which was a sellout, came out. I was starting to worry about writing.

He continued, “I wasn’t impressed by it, and things were going pretty well for me, and maybe something was just clicking in my head,” but there is still much to be gained from watching this. Yes, good content comes with torment. Yes, at least for a poet.

MGK also started writing a journal after spending time in a rehabilitation period over the Christmas period, which he says he would use when staff called “lights off”. He revealed: “I had this red notebook that a fan actually gave to me (that I) wrote so much in. They would lights off everything around 9:30, 10:00 pm, and then during all those hours that I couldn’t sleep, I would just write my feelings. So yeah, I do do that.”

He keeps a journal of his life to record his manifestations of what he wants to accomplish both professionally and personally.

He said, “I write down things I want to accomplish, and then I burn them when the moon comes on,” adding, “I did that for the Grammys a few years ago. I believe I was waiting for the right year even though it didn’t work out.

He described himself as a “rolling stone” and admitted to the challenges he’s faced last month. He said, “I’m a rolling stone, man,” when he spoke to People magazine. You’ll probably keep hitting obstacles and rocks. I suppose that’s just the course I took. He “wasn’t afraid to fully open up and share his raw emotions and vulnerability,” according to his most recent album, Lost Americana.

He said, “Vulnerability is how I was able to maintain my fan base for a long time.” The person behind the music must exhibit a human side. They might also learn about the man-slash-broken-boy who is the one who founded the moniker MGK this time.

‘We have to keep this energy’ – can Aberdeen build on first win?

SNS

A league goal is waiting for you for 690 minutes, and three come along in 11 first-half minutes.

Few would have anticipated a 4-0 win over Dundee from Aberdeen in the 3-2 Conference League defeat suffered on Thursday.

It was the Dons’ biggest Premiership victory since May 2024, as well as their first goals and win of the season.

Thelin hopes to repair the fan connection.

Manager Thelin told BBC Scotland, “I’m so pleased with the performance. The players worked so hard in training and other games, but neither outcome or goal was achieved.

On Thursday night, we saw some signs of Shakhtar’s defeat, as well as the expansion of the fan-base relationship. The motivation was back.

“We really made a connection with the fans today,” he said. They were impressed by the effort of the players. We become stronger as a result.

We still need to improve, but our growth continues each week.

Aberdeen have been on a poor run all along, with the exception of five victories in 33 league games before this weekend. Thelin has been fairly steadfast in the face of growing pressure.

The Scottish Cup victory over Dundee was a welcome return to the team that had struggled this calendar year, which was widely assumed as a result of the team’s growing suspicions about how it had handled the problems that had been afoot since the start of last year.

The Dons have so far this season that they have the most shots, passes (574), and xG (2.92) and have displayed a lackluster attacking verve.

Thelin continued, “The team’s connections are growing.” Today, having a clean sheet and being proactive was crucial. We pressed for victory in the matches of Motherwell and Shakhtar.

Karlsson’s growing influence

Jesper Karlsson graphic

Jesper Karlsson, the star of the show and the scorer of the first and fourth goals, was seated at the center of Aberdeen’s performance.

When the Dons managed to secure the Sweden winger’s loan deal from Bologna, who had spent £9 million on him two years ago, raised eyebrows. He is now demonstrating that the price tag is reasonable.

His seven shots against Dundee against Dundee are the joint-highest total for a player in the Premiership this season, with the penalty being given to him in midweek. He also completed 20 crosses and six dribbles successfully.

Karsson didn’t play the wing as often as he did when he was on the wing. He was chosen to play off Kevin Nisbet and be used by Thelin as a second striker.

Thelin remarked, “We are aware of Jesper’s qualities.” He is “adapting,” improving constantly, finding new teammates, and developing stronger relationships with them.

Fans’ anxiety soon turns into joy.

BBC Sport Scotland, Tyrone Smith

As Aberdeen won their first game of the Premiership season and scored their first goals, Pittodrie was filled with joy and relief.

Despite the team’s poor campaign debut, the support was upbeat, helped by Shakhtar’s encouraging midweek performance.

You could feel a sense of anxiety and deja vu around the old ground as the Dons created and squandered a number of lucrative opportunities before Karlsson’s opener.

However, as the supporters erupted in joy after the penalty was awarded, the players’ shoulders began to lift and the feeling that the roof was going to fall off.

Aberdeen has recently experienced boos at the end of the match, but this time the players and supporters celebrated a fantastic win and performance.

O’Connell’s ‘brain hurts’ after Vikings late London win over Browns

Reuters

After helping the Minnesota Vikings beat the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham, head coach Kevin O’Connell said his “brain hurts.”

In his first NFL start since replacing veteran Joe Flacco as starting quarterback in midweek, Dillon Gabriel looked confident in winning.

The Browns jumped out to a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter thanks to the rookie’s second touchdown pass, which Minnesota returned with three minutes left.

The Vikings, who played their backup quarterback behind a sluggish offensive line, showed great character to put themselves in a win column after almost fighting back in last week’s 24-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin.

With 25 seconds left, Wentz made his third start for Minnesota in the first of the three NFL games in London, winning 21-17.

Coach O’Connell once said, “My brain hurts right now, if I’m being honest with you, navigating that at the end.

We experienced some more hardship than we anticipated, some of which we caused ourselves. Our guys simply kept going.

Vikings’ new offensive line debuts

Coach O’Connell and his staff are credited with creating this Minnesota team. Since he became in charge in 2022, they have overcome numerous obstacles, including McCarthy’s injury woes from their previous two games.

Three of the Vikings’ four offensive line starters were sidelined last week, leaving them without their trip to London.

Fans who traveled from the US for the two-game jaunt feared the worst because Cleveland forced two turnovers while allowing just one.

The Vikings attempted a field goal, which they missed, and then a punt, but they still prevailed despite being penalized on successive drives in the final quarter.

Wentz remarked, “I’m so proud of] the offensive line, to do what they did today in a special week here.”

Running back Cam Akers intercepted tight end Josh Oliver for a touchdown on a trick play in the first quarter to level things up.

Wentz, who was playing for his sixth team in six seasons, showed his experience by passing nine straight passes in the game-winning drive with a touchdown at the start of the third quarter to give the Vikings a lead for the first time.

That helped the Vikings improve their record to 3-2 and saw him finish with 236 passing yards, 123 of which were given to star receiver Justin Jefferson.

Everybody in this locker room is so close, said 32-year-old Wentz, who calls it a “very unique group of guys.”

Browns must learn to use the killer instinct.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel looks for a receiver as the Cleveland Browns play the Minnesota VikingsReuters

Cleveland’s defense had a week five to go before the NFL’s final week, where they had given up the fewest yards (222.5 per game) and were seventh in total sacks (11).

They recovered two Vikings fumbles and drew three sacks, as expected, and allowed Wentz and his exhausted offensive line to practice for the majority of the afternoon.

But when it was most important, they were unable to stop Minnesota, and Cleveland’s offence ceased to click at the same time.

A field goal by David Njoku and a touchdown by Harold Fannin gave the Browns a 10-point lead at half-time before the final quarter gave them a command of the game.

However, they didn’t add the finishing touch, only getting two first downs on 17 of their final five possessions.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said, “We need to do a better job closing out.” That’s offensive, along with defense, special teams, coaches, players, and many other things.

The Browns now lead the team to a 1-4 start, demonstrating that winning a turnover battle doesn’t always mean winning it.

You have to go out and win, defensive end Myles Garrett said.
