Ceasefire declared between Syrian forces, Kurdish fighters after one killed

Syria’s government has declared a ceasefire between its security forces and Kurdish fighters in the northern city of Aleppo, after at least one person was killed and four people were injured in overnight violence.

Murhaf Abu Qasra, Syria’s minister of defence, announced the ceasefire on Tuesday after meeting with Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), saying the two sides had “agreed on a comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts and military positions in northern and northeastern Syria”.

“The implementation of this agreement will begin immediately,” the government minister added.

The Syrian army and the United States-backed SDF clashed after SDF fighters reportedly targeted checkpoints in the city, according to the state-run news agency SANA.

SDF forces allegedly fired into residential areas in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Achrafieh neighbourhoods of Aleppo “with mortar shells and heavy machine guns”, SANA reported, adding there were civilian casualties.

Residents of the area told The Associated Press that two security guards in a public park were killed on Tuesday by shelling, and a woman and a child were wounded.

The SDF denied attacking the checkpoints and said its forces withdrew from the area months ago. It blamed the outbreak of violence on aggression by government forces.

It also issued a statement on Tuesday accusing government military factions of carrying out “repeated attacks” against civilians in the Aleppo neighbourhoods and imposing a siege on them.

The violence was the latest flare-up in tensions between the interim government and the SDF, which has sought to retain de facto autonomy in the northeast part of the country.

It was also another setback for the landmark deal struck in March by President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Abdi.

The agreement, brokered after the fall of ousted President Bashar al-Assad in December, was designed to integrate Kurdish-led forces into Syria’s state institutions.

It also would have seen key assets held by the SDF — including border crossings, an airport, and oil-and-gas fields — handed to Damascus by the end of the year. The SDF is estimated to control about a quarter of Syria’s land, mostly in the northeast part of the country.

The government in Damascus has hoped to consolidate its control over the country. But progress on the March plan has stalled.

Both Damascus and the SDF have accused each other of provocations that have increased tensions.

On Tuesday, the presidential office issued a statement that al-Sharaa had spoken to US envoy Tom Barrack to discuss how the plan might be implemented “in a manner that safeguards Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

They also discussed “ways to support the political process”, according to the statement.

On Monday, Syria published the results of its first parliamentary election since al-Assad was toppled, a landmark moment in the country’s fragile transition after nearly 14 years of civil war.

Djokovic Vanquishes Exhaustion To Push Through To Shanghai Quarterfinals

With a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Spain’s Jaume Munar, Novak Djokovic overcame exhaustion and made it to the Shanghai Masters’ quarterfinals on Tuesday.

With other top seeds already withdrawn or eliminated, Djokovic is on track to win a record-extending fifth title in the Chinese financial hub thanks to his hard-won success.

When the match reached a decider, the 38-year-old almost looked unable to continue, but he had the strength to defeat his decade-young opponent twice in the third set.

I love you, thank you, everyone! Before leaving the court almost immediately after play was over, he yelled in Chinese to the adoring crowd.

Despite the 84 percent humidity, the 24-time Grand Slam champion broke in the fourth game.

His injuries broke when his left ankle slipped out of his grasp as he ran toward the net and needed a medical break.

He managed to hold the fifth game despite suffering in pain as an on-court physio treated him.

In the second set, Djokovic was treated once more and appeared to be getting tired, crouching over frequently and urking on the court during rallies.

Serbian-flag-waving Chinese fans chanted in support, but 41st-ranked Munar ultimately broke in the 12th game of the second set due to an unforced error from his opponent.

As a medical professional rushed over, the agonized Djokovic sat on the court and continued to play with his chest heaving.

However, he made up for the incredible third-set revival by breaking the first and seventh games and causing a frenzied stadium.

player in the quarterfinals who is oldest

Djokovic is the only player with the highest ranking in Shanghai and the oldest player to have reached an ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal.

The tournament’s top player Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the mix, and Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, and others have all been eliminated.

Due to the extreme humidity and over 30 Celsius temperatures, the Shanghai event has been a source of injuries.

After being seized with severe cramps, Sinner was forced to retire on Sunday.

Holger Rune, the 11th-ranked player who has also experienced the conditions, demanded on Tuesday that tennis officials institute a heat policy for events like Shanghai.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, from France, defeated The Dane 6-4, 6-7 (7/9), 6-3, to move into the last eight.

Next up is Zizou Bergs, who is 44th overall.

The Belgian won a tense third set tiebreak, winning 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10/8), and the Belgian won.

Lou Teasdale addresses feud with Caroline Flack’s mum – ‘A lot of fingers get pointed’

Celebrity make-up artist, Lou Teasdale, sat down for a candid conversation with Paul C Brunson about her life, career and her best friend Caroline Flack’s suicide in 2020

Lou Teasdale touched up her difficult relationship with Caroline Flack’s mum, Christine, as she opened up about her best friend’s suicide.

The Love Island host died by suicide on February 15 2020 aged 40, and Lou has sat down for an in-depth interview discussing the heartbreaking situation.

Following Caroline’s tragic death, her mum Christine has questioned why her pals Lou and Mollie Grosberg left her alone in her flat on the night she took her own life. The celebrity hair stylist, who is mum to daughter Lux, was the last person to see the TV presenter alive.

During a candid conversation with Paul C Brunson on his podcast, she was asked whether the rumours of Christine and her falling out were true.

Lou said: “So, my sister and I are really close with with Jody, her twin sister. I actually saw her at Glastonbury and hopefully we’ll stay in touch forever. Obviously, we were together on that day and she knows who we are and where we are.

“And I think what’s really hard with with parents, it does cause conflict because it’s the worst case scenario for anybody for that to happen to your child and all you’re going to do is think whose fault is it, which I understand.”

She added on the We Need To Talk podcast: “A lot of fingers get pointed at partners – that’s happened a few times that I’ve known about as well. For me, where I sat in the Caroline situation was I know what happened, I was there, I know what I’m comfortable with.

“I personally just don’t blame anybody and I panic about blame because it creates again another vulnerable person who has to take that on their shoulders and the trauma of that for the rest of their lives – especially publicly.

“Without going into anything private, I’ve basically tried my best to stay away from any conversations about who was in the wrong or whatever and I think that in this situation, people come together and do that as a way of trying to fight it and deal with it as part of the grief process. But I had a relationship with everybody in that situation which became impossible really.”

During the conversation, she was asked if she has been able to “properly grieve” Caroline, and Lou admitted: “No because I think suicide is a really hard death for people to grieve because it is filled with so many emotions.”

Recalling her final moments with the TV star, Lou shared: “The night before, she had attempted. So, the paramedics had sort of given a big talk to get her through the night.

“I always felt that I needed to get her through the night then I would go home to my daughter and she’d be alright in the day. I was never that worried in the daytime. I was too panicky in the night to leave her.”

Five Tonic FC Players Sign Youth Contracts With Portuguese Club SC Esmoriz

On Saturday, 20th September 2025, Tonic FC achieved a breakthrough that every grassroots club dreams of. Five of its young players signed youth contracts with Portuguese side SC Esmoriz.

For Isa Riliwan Ayodele, Oyetola Ayomide Ayuba, Okiye Gideon Oseghale, Adebowale Sheriff Olamide, and Onuoha Chidiebere Fabian, this isn’t just a transfer; it’s the beginning of structured European training and a real shot at the professional game.

This achievement also ripples beyond football. In communities where distractions and vices often pull young people away from their dreams, the success of these five boys is a reminder that when discipline meets opportunity, doors open. It also signals that even bigger stories may be on the way.

Five Tonic FC Stars Earn a Shot at Europe

It’s not every day you see five players from one local club sign for the same European side, but that’s precisely what happened with Tonic FC. When SC Esmoriz came calling, it wasn’t luck; it was the result of months of hard work, raw talent, and consistency.

What caught the scouts’ eyes wasn’t just flair or highlight-reel moments; it was the boys’ discipline, awareness, and hunger to keep improving every single game.

Signing one player would’ve been a win, but signing five at once says a lot about the trust Esmoriz has in what Tonic FC is building.

The contracts are more than paperwork; they’re a launchpad. Although it’s not full pro football yet, it’s structured European training, tougher competition, and a real chance to show they belong.

A Landmark Moment for Tonic FC’s Vision

When Cardtonic decided to start Tonic FC, it wasn’t about adding another local team to Nigeria’s crowded football scene. The goal was clear from day one: to find raw Nigerian talent, give them real structure, and create a pathway that could take them beyond local leagues and onto the global stage.

Fast forward to 2025, and that vision is starting to pay off. Five players from one squad signing youth contracts in Europe isn’t just a proud moment; it’s proof that the system works. It shows that Nigerian players, when given the right environment, can meet the standards European scouts are looking for, not just in skill, but in attitude, discipline, and consistency.

For the rest of the team, this moment is different. It’s more than a celebration; it’s a reminder that the door is open because if their teammates can rise from community pitches to Portugal, then with hard work and focus, their shot might be next.

Closing Thoughts What looks like a simple transfer on paper is much bigger in reality. Five boys from Tonic FC are not just heading to Portugal; they’re carrying the hopes of their families, teammates, and communities with them.

As Dapo Ajibade, the club’s general overseer, said: “The youth around are watching. Everybody wants to be involved in what is worthy now. They don’t want to be involved in social vices; they want to impact their community positively.”

He is arguably basketball’s greatest ever player.

But before his 23rd season in the NBA, LeBron James heightened speculation about his future with a cryptic post on his social media channels that teased a “Second Decision”.

A video showed him sitting down across from another man on a basketball court, with the caption: “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12pm EST.”

By Tuesday it had amassed more than 1.3 million ‘likes’ on Instagram.

Was James about to retire?

It appears not – at 15:31 BST on Tuesday he shared with his 158 million Instagram followers a video revealing “the Second Decision” as a promotion for a drinks brand.

The teaser video shared on Monday had echoed what became known as “The Decision” in 2010 – when in a televised announcement, from a gym, James revealed he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat.

James turns 41 in December and has already made plenty of history in the game.

Last season he became the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 combined points across regular season and play-off games.

In April 2025 his influence beyond sport was shown when he became the first professional male athlete to be honoured as a Ken doll by Barbie makers Mattel.

In the NBA, no other player has made it to a 23rd season.

Since being drafted first overall by hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, switching to the Heat in 2010 and then joining the Lakers in 2018, James has won four league titles and broken a host of records.

One record came after his son Bronny was drafted by the Lakers in 2024 and they became the first father-son duo to share the court in an NBA game.

Last week the 6ft 9in superstar insisted he was “excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season”.

“The thing still pushing me is the fact that my love for the game is still high,” he added.

Some suspected “The Second Decision” would not be a retirement announcement.

With a string of investments and off-court ventures in tow, many of those engaging with the teaser on Instagram and X predicted James would be making a promotional announcement for one such vehicle.
