NAFDAC Clarifies Status Of 101 Withdrawn Drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a clarification on the status of 101 withdrawn drugs.

A statement released on its official X handle on Tuesday, the agency said the move is to help the public and stakeholders better understand the status and implications of each product category listed.

According to NAFDAC, the terms “withdrawn,” “suspended,” and “cancelled” describe distinct regulatory actions taken to ensure drug quality, safety, and compliance.

Under the clarification, “withdrawn” refers to products whose registration was voluntarily discontinued by the marketing authorisation holder, often for commercial or market-related reasons and not necessarily linked to safety concerns.

“Suspended” denotes temporary halts in registration pending regulatory compliance, while “cancelled” applies to products whose approvals have been fully revoked and are no longer authorised for manufacture, importation, or sale — often due to safety, quality, or poor manufacturing practices.

The agency explained that publishing such lists followed global best practices aimed at preventing counterfeiting and ensuring that delisted products do not remain in circulation.

NAFDAC listed examples across several categories, including antimalarials, antimicrobials, diabetes medicines, eye drops, and injectables.

Among the affected products were Artemether/Lumefantrine 40mg/240mg Tablets and ASAQ (Artesunate Amodiaquine Winthrop) Tablets, both withdrawn voluntarily by Healthline Limited and Sanofi Aventis Nigeria Ltd, respectively, for commercial reasons.

Other affected drugs included Flagyl Suspension and Tablets (400mg), which are no longer approved for manufacture or sale, and Norditropin Growth Hormone Injectables, which have been delisted following regulatory review.

In the diabetes category, Januvia and Janumet have been withdrawn from the market, while Amaryl M Tablets and Amaryl M SR were voluntarily withdrawn by Sanofi Aventis Nigeria Ltd.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to public safety.

Russia charges exiled oligarch Khodorkovsky with ‘terrorism’

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has opened a criminal case against exiled oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, accusing him of creating a “terrorist organisation” and plotting to violently seize power.

The FSB said on Tuesday that the charges relate to the activities of a Khodorkovsky-backed group that opposes the war in Ukraine. Numerous individuals and groups inside and outside Russia have been prosecuted as the Kremlin has cracked down on even the smallest sign of dissent concerning its narrative of the invasion of its neighbour.

There was no immediate comment from Khodorkovsky or his Anti-War Committee, which has been banned in Russia.

The oil tycoon, once Russia’s richest man, served 10 years in a Siberian prison on fraud charges that he and many Western countries – where his incarceration became a cause celebre – said were politically motivated.

Khodorkovsky rose to prominence as one of a handful of wealthy businessmen who backed former President Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s, gaining huge power over the Russian economy as a result.

He fell from grace as Yeltsin’s successor, Vladimir Putin, tightened the Kremlin’s grip on previously independent-minded business figures.

Most of the remaining members of the group became loyal supporters of Putin. However, some fled, including Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich’s former mentor, Boris Berezovsky, also fled to the United Kingdom, where he became a staunch critic of the Russian president. Russian courts handed down numerous sentences against him during his time in exile until his death, ruled a suicide despite some doubt, in 2013.

Khodorkovsky left Russia after being released from jail that same year, thanks to a presidential pardon granted on the basis that he would not engage in politics.

In December, Putin’s spokesperson accused Khodorkovsky of failing to keep his end of the deal after a Moscow court imposed a fine on the exiled tycoon for administrative violations.

Legislation against discrediting the Russian military was introduced after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. It has repeatedly been used by Russia’s courts to jail and silence Putin’s critics.

In 2024, a court in St Petersburg jailed Sasha Skochilenko, an artist and musician, for seven years for swapping supermarket price tags for those with antiwar messages.

Since 2022, Khodorkovsky has positioned himself as a leading figure among Russian exiles who back Kyiv against Moscow. Shortly after the war’s outbreak, he was designated a “foreign agent” by Russia.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz take another thinly veiled dig at family

It has been no secret that Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz haven’t been seeing eye to eye with the Beckhams and now they’ve taken another dig at his family

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have made another dig at the Beckhams amid their public feud. Nicola took to her Instagram story to celebrate a family event, but none of the Beckhams were involved.

The actress and her husband, Brooklyn, both went to the special birthday party as they celebrated their godson. Nicola posted a snap where Brooklyn can be seen smiling as she wrote: “Happy birthday to our perfect godson Xander. We’re so proud of you, we love you so much!”

She then shared another photo of a brightly coloured birthday cake which read the words: “Happy birthday Xander!” Brooklyn then reposted the snaps on his own Instagram story.

This comes as Brooklyn recently snubbed brother Romeo’s birthday. The Beckham family stepped out to celebrate his 23rd birthday last month with a swanky London party, but his brother Brooklyn was noticeably missing amid the bitter family feud.

Romeo, who turned 23 on September 1, had already celebrated with his family in a low-key fashion earlier as the clan enjoyed an Italian family getaway. Not only did Brooklyn not appear at his brother’s birthday celebrations, but he also failed to send him a happy birthday message on social media.

Brooklyn and wife Nicola’s feud with the Beckhams has been well documented since earlier this year, as rumours started to swirl after fans noticed Brooklyn failed to show up at family events and acknowledge milestones such as his parents’ birthdays.

Tensions between the brothers came to a boiling point as it was reported that Brooklyn had unfollowed his brothers on social media in July. But a source close to Brooklyn later claimed that Brooklyn and Nicola did not unfollow the brothers and had “no idea” about it until he read about it online.

Victoria has now reportedly decided to draw a line in the sand amid her ongoing feud with her eldest son and daughter-in-law, a source told us. The Spice Girl-turned-fashion mogul has shared “the challenges and triumphs that have defined her” in her new Netflix documentary.

A source claimed that Posh surprised herself by how emotional she became while filming the documentary, especially when it came to unpacking her role as matriarch of the Beckham clan. At one point in the trailer, a tearful Victoria confesses she just wants “my kids and David to be proud of me”.

The source said: “She found it very emotional but liberating at the same time. It made her realise how much she is loved, how her family have supported her and got her through the ups and downs.

“It was very much a roller coaster of emotions because of the big thing that’s still affecting her, her fractured relationship with Brooklyn. But it also made her realise that she can’t keep raking over the heartbreak of this situation with him, enough is enough, now.”

Ex-Loose Women Andrea McLean says she’s ‘knackered’ in candid update to fans

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36065423.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_Virgin-Money-Giving-Mind-Media-Awards-2018-Red-Carpet-Arrivals.jpg

The TV star, aged 56, shared a key ‘takeaway’ after taking part in two fitness activities

Andrea McLean shared with her fans that she feels ‘knackered in a good way’ after attempting two new fitness activities. Although the former Loose Women star was initially anxious to start, she managed to proceed at a pace that was comfortable for her.

“So, this is the face of someone who has been to a weight training class and then did two hours of padel,” the 56-year-old explained on Instagram yesterday. “This is what knackered looks like.

“But one of the reasons I thought I would do a little video about it is because I am just really happy that I could. Really happy that I joined a weight training class and walked in thinking, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to do this,’ and, ‘Everyone is going to be really good and I don’t know anybody.’ And actually, I could do it at my level, and everyone was really nice.”

Later, she added: “It’s nice to feel knackered in a good way, and that’s my takeaway.” Andrea’s fitness update comes almost a year after she suffered flu-like symptoms before collapsing in the bathroom last December.

When rushed to the hospital, medics explained that she not only had acute kidney injury and sepsis but severe pneumonia too, losing ‘80% capacity’ in one lung.

Recounting the ordeal on Substack, Andrea said she stayed there for several days and was completely overwhelmed by the bright lights, yelling, screams, and almost constant ‘smell of poo’. Yet, even once she returned home, things didn’t go back to normal.

In March, she collapsed on the bathroom floor for a second time after getting out of bed ‘too fast’. While Andrea didn’t explain whether her fitness habits halted amidst these incidents, in May, she said she hadn’t felt confident exercising for a very long time.

A few months ago, she also wrote on Instagram: “I hadn’t been confident enough to go back to the gym, so I’ve just been doing it on my own, and that actually makes me feel really sad to say it out loud, that I wasn’t confident enough to go into a gym and do my little app workout.

“[It’s] because I was so, so far from the fit person that I was, and I don’t know, again, it’s such a weird thing to explain if you’ve not kind of lost all your fitness and all that kind of thing and then you’re starting again.”

Unsurprisingly, the celebrity’s more recent fitness post was quickly flooded with several supportive comments from fans. Among them, one person said: “You are an inspiration to so many people especially me. Carry on doing what you love.”

Meanwhile, another person wrote: “Good to see you smiling, glowing and a good knackered,” as someone else said: “You look well Andrea. Loving the sunshine I’m sure.”

Explaining where she got the first name Forever from, the singer added: “My nan used to sign off every card with Always and Forever, all the time.

“Now my mum does it and my sister does it, and I just think Forever is a cool name!”

Just over a year prior, the singer gave birth to her first daughter, Seven, with her husband. Speaking on the sibling relationship, Anne-Marie told Ben and Cat: “She treats him like he’s her age. So she doesn’t really get that he’s super tiny.

“She gets really excited, they love each other and just stare at each other.”

Anne-Marie, 34, and 30-year-old Slowthai – whose real name is Tyron Kaymone Frampton – have been married since 2022 – and had kept fans updated along their pregnancy journey with both children.
