Arsenal beat Fulham to top Premier League after Man City down Everton

Arsenal won a 1-0 victory over struggling Fulham, continuing their lead at the top of the Premier League, which had been threatened earlier by Manchester City.

A game that had seen Fulham, who are now on a three-game losing streak, dominate the opening period at Craven Cottage on Saturday was ended by Leandro Trossard’s tap-in in the 58th minute.

Prior to the late kickoff of the London derby in the west of the capital, Manchester City had won with a 2-0 victory at home to Everton.

Arsenal is now three points clear of Liverpool at the top, but defending champions Liverpool could only manage one point if they beat Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Prior to the international break, Fulham had lost to Aston Villa and Bournemouth, but Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson both put the keeper on the edge with drag-off efforts that should have put the keeper on the spot.

In contrast, Arsenal had some enjoyable possession moments, but they were unable to put their former keeper Bernd Leno to the test in the opening 30 minutes of Fulham’s goal.

Instead of nearly outwitting the odds when Tom Cairney rifled a shot back across the face from a corner into the Fulham goalkeeper’s face, there were too many bodies in the way, preventing Arsenal from intercepting the goal-bound effort.

Victor Gyokeres, who had endured a painfully slow start due to a lack of service, received the first sign of the record. The Swedish striker found space in the box, but his low drive was comfortably parried clear at a tight angle.

The final kick of the half was when Declan Rice fired a trademark drive from range, but Leno was cemented to the spot as a result of a curl from his instep that fell just wide of the post.

At the start of the second period, Bukayo Saka shimmed in from the right and stabbed the ball in the direction of the goal. After kicking the ball in his own net on the line, a Fulham bundle swung the danger away.

However, it wasn’t until the breakthrough that Gabriel reached when he pressed Saka’s corner with his thigh, which Trossard had already slammed in with.

After VAR asked Anthony Taylor to review his decision after substitute Kevin clearly played the ball first, Saka nearly doubled the lead with a low drive that Leno skillfully turned wide.

Fulham were unable to withstand the challenge in the second period despite the respite.

Man City hopes to reclaim the top of the Premier League.

Erling Haaland continued his erratic scoring trend with two goals in five second-half minutes, lifting City temporarily to the top with a victory over Everton.

After eight games, Pep Guardiola’s men improved to 16 points, dropping Liverpool and Arsenal to second and third, respectively. On 11 points, Everton dropped to 10th place.

The 25-year-old Haaland broke the deadlock with a header from the left that he leapt into from the left and headed home Nico O’Reilly’s cross in 11th consecutive games for the club and country for a season-high 23 goals.

Five minutes later, the Norwegian doubled City’s lead when he jumped off Savinho’s cross and fired a blistering left-foot shot past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, which was slightly deflected by Everton’s James Tarkowski.

With three excellent chances in the final minutes, Pickford raced out with his legs to save two of Haaland’s. On the third try, Haaland tipped Pickford, but his wildly angled loop shot from a dangerous angle slammed wide of the net.

Haaland shook his head in resentment as the crowd chanted “Haaland! ” Haaland”! for his efforts.

Phil Foden, a City official, praised Haaland for breaking the deadlock, calling it “very significant.”

“We are aware that he has that quality, that he runs to the top and is in the right place.” He still has a chance to score, and we know he only needs one chance to do so if they decide to leave him out of the game.

He remained patient, saying that today there wasn’t much room for him. And as you can see, he is always there for us when it counts as a top striker.

Everton winger Jack Grealish, who was unable to face his parent club, did not receive an emotional homecoming. Grealish was captured on a TV camera watching the game, but David Moyes’ team was left with a hole in the absence of the league’s joint assist leader.

City, who completely dominated the second half, had 19 shots to Everton’s five and 7 shots on target to City’s one.

A few chances were wasted by Everton. Iliman Ndiaye scurried down the right before sending a cross to Beto, who slid to the ball and lobbed it wide.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Amber Davies says ‘of course I worry’ over cruel trolling

Amber Davies, a member of the hit dance competition Strictly Come Dancing, has admitted to having been trolled over her dancing skills as a result of her participation in the popular dance competition.

Strictly Come Dancing star Amber Davies has opened up about how she is avoiding the backlash she has faced over her experience as a dancer. The former Love Island winner usually works as a performer in London’s West End theatre district.

Amber, 29, became a last-minute replacement for fellow former Love Islander Dani Dyer when she sustained a significant injury just days before live shows were due to begin. Now Amber has vowed not to pay attention to the negativity that has been directed at her, saying it will only “make me feel c—.”

Amber – who is performing an Argentine Tango on tonight’s show – admitted, “I am doing everything I possibly can to avoid reading anything negative on social media. A lot of people have asked me how I am dealing with the backlash, but, honestly, I refuse to read any comments online. I am not going there.”

She continued to The Sun: “In the past I have gone looking for it and it just makes me feel like crap, so this time around I have to be really mentally strong, but I am putting myself in the Strictly bubble. I do my rehearsals and go home; I don’t read or check anything.

Because it will only undermine my confidence, it will do it. I told myself, “I have to block it out, I really do,” because I didn’t want this to be a bad experience. Amber also admitted, “It would be too much going on in my head if I worried about the backlash. “

She has acknowledged that learning ballroom routines is challenging despite her background as a dancer and her early involvement in musical theater. She described how the two are “worlds apart.” I studied acting and singing.

“It’s like being a pop singer and being made to sing opera.” She has also stressed that her boyfriend, theatre actor Ben Joyce, has no worries about her performing passionate routines with her Strictly professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin, 27.

She continued, “I’ve seen him kiss someone else on stage, he has watched me fall in love with someone on stage, and it’s normal in our industry.” My boyfriend is obsessed with this dance because he believes it to be my best dance.

Dani, 29, has stepped in for her after she broke her ankle, and Amber described the experience as “bittersweet for me.” She will be sorely missed on this program, I want to let her know.

Amber continued, “I will 100% vote for her win when she returns next year because she could never replace her in a million years.” Amber and Kem Cetinay, who were her then-partner, won Love Island in 2017.

Five months after receiving the £50, 000 Love Island prize money, the pair split in December 2017. Amber had previously vowed to stop discussing her former partner with her supporters in 2018.

She remarked, “Guys, this is just getting so boring and grating right now.” She continued, “You GUYS should be over the relationship if Kem and I are over it.” I am generally allowed to be openly happy and can move on.

Postecoglou’s Forest Exit Is Latest Chapter In Rollercoaster Career

The most recent plot twist in the Premier League soap opera from Australia is Angel Postecoglou’s brutal dismissal by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Postecoglou was fired after losing eight games under his belt since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in September.

Former Tottenham manager Postecoglou made the boast that his time at the club will always end with “me and a trophy” on Friday.

However, less than 24 hours later, after Forest lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea, he was fired for the second time in five months.

Only 17 minutes after Forest’s sixth and final defeat of his reign, the 60-year-old announced his abrupt departure from the City Ground.

Even though the Portuguese coach led Volatile Forest for the first time in 30 years, Evangelos Marinakis had sacked Nuno, putting pressure on Postecoglou to make an immediate impact.

His polarizing managerial career in the Premier League has now reached a remarkable chapter, failing to even manage one victory with his new club.

Before being fired in June, Postecoglou was only 16 days after orchestrating their Europa League triumph over Manchester United, which only took him two turbulent seasons as Tottenham manager.

After a poor Premier League campaign, it was not enough for Tottenham to end his 17-year trophy drought and earn himself a spot in the Champions League this year.

Read more about Nottingham Forest’s replacement after Chelsea’s defeat.

Tottenham’s position in the top flight was their lowest since 1976/77, with Postecoglou’s naive insistence on sticking to ultra-attacking tactics ultimately becoming his detriment.

He joined Spurs in 2023 and was hailed as a modernizer who could transform the team after winning two Scottish championships during his successful tenure at Celtic.

Tottenham made a quick start to his maiden campaign before Aston Villa snuck in to earn them a Champions League spot.

Unwanted Record

Postecoglou was forced to sack him by Tottenham during the previous season due to the Europa League run, and he eventually learned from his mistakes when he changed his approach and beat United in the final.

He made a point of highlighting his accomplishments at the club’s trophy parade because he was aware that he was still likely to be fired.

Postecoglou is renowned for claiming that season three of the best television series is the best season ever, and that he always wins a trophy in his second season.

But that bold promise was broken.

Postecoglou, who was born in Athens, won the title at South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar in Australia, and he followed that success at Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos.

In addition, he won the 2015 Asian Cup as Australia’s head.

However, his managerial style has flaws, as shown by the Premier League.

Postecoglou always seemed unlikable in his press conferences and was frequently outspoken in his criticism of Marinakis.

When Postecoglou greeted his appointment with the phrase “We now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies,” the Greek was without a doubt what he had hoped for from the Greek.

Ange is confident in her abilities and track record to accomplish this.

Even if that was a positive assessment of Forest’s standing after 35 years without a significant trophy, Postecoglou’s demands were still present.

Significant blows came from losing to promoted Sunderland at home and dropping out of League One with Swansea.

Postecoglou was already completely on the defensive by the time he faced the media before the Chelsea game.

These first five weeks, he said, “Obviously, this guy is under pressure” if you look at it through the lens of I’m a failed manager who’s lucky to get this job.

“But maybe I’m a manager, so if you give them time, the story always ends the same.” It ended the same way at all of my previous clubs, with a trophy and me.

Postecoglou leaves Forest with an unfavorable record, which is the shortest of any permanent Premier League manager’s tenure, leaving him with a silverware.

GB claim double Euro wheelchair basketball silver

At the Sarajevo European Wheelchair Basketball Championships, Great Britain placed second overall in both the men’s and women’s events.

The men lost to Spain in the final on Saturday, but the men were aiming for a ninth consecutive European title.

The Netherlands, who had won their fifth title in a row, defeated the GB women’s team by 66-59 to claim the victory.

Gregg Warburton led the men in scoring with 18 points, but the majority of the time was in trouble against a young Spanish side determined to win their first European championship.

With just over seven minutes left in the first quarter, GB took a 12 point lead into the second half before gradually reducing that deficit.

However, they were unable to stop the Spanish, who once more came out in the lead with a minute remaining, but they still had a chance. Kyle Marsh, a GB player, missed a three-pointer attempt that would have tied the game.

The GB women suffered heartache on Friday as they lost to the Dutch, who had won their Paralympic title in Paris last year, for the fourth time in a row in the European final.

Robyn Love also had double figures in points and rebounds with nine, while Lucy Robinson had 22 and Robyn Love had 10 and Robyn Love had 10 respectively.

Piastri & Norris collide as Verstappen wins sprint

Reuters

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, McLaren team-mates and title rivals, collided shortly after the start of the American Grand Prix sprint race.

After cutting off Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber, Piastri bounced into Norris and pulled both McLarens out of the race. Fernando Alonso, a teammate of Aston Martin, was also forced to leave.

The incident occurred over the weekend, when McLaren made efforts to control the tension between their drivers and let them race.

Max Verstappen, a Red Bull driver, won the race after a brief fight with George Russell of Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton was beaten for third place by Williams’ Carlos Sainz.

The Briton once said, “I just got hit, right? ” Nothing I did was wrong. Further back, there were events that occurred, and I was hit and unlucky as a result.

I need to examine my situation a little more attentively. More people are being a little careless further back, and we are the result.

I haven’t seen the incident from the TV cameras, Piastri said to Sky Sports, but I must say that I did.

What transpired during the incident?

As they approached the first corner with their wide, uphill entry, Piastri made a better start than Norris and initially moved in favor of attacking his team-mate.

The Australian then turned around and attempted to cut off Norris, but instead his left rear wheel slammed into Hulkenberg’s car.

Piastri jumped into the air and collected Norris as he rebounded from the track. Piastri limped on for a few more corners before pulling off, but the Briton was on the spot.

It was precisely what McLaren’s management desired. The first rule was that the drivers must not collide with one another, despite the fact that they have been doing so for the entire year.

Discussions of the small touch between them in Singapore two weeks ago, when Norris bounced into Piastri after beating Verstappen, have dominated the Austin weekend.

The remainder of the race

Verstappen, who McLaren have always emphasized remained a threat in the championship despite his significant deficit, especially now that Red Bull have returned from a slump in recent races, received a gift from Verstappen.

Verstappen was followed by Russell after the crash, who made a bold move into Turn 12 on lap seven, a late dive that resulted in both going off the track.

Verstappen held onto the lead and soon took control of the race.

Sainz didn’t pose a threat to Russell, but he did have to watch Hamilton in his mirrors.

On lap eight, the Monegasque lost control of his car after the high-speed Esses earlier in the lap, passing team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton was able to close up after Leclerc cut one of the corners and cut through the Esses. Leclerc edged him right to the inside edge of the track before he passed down the straight.

Hamilton held on as Leclerc attempted to recoup his momentum as he made a series of slower corners in the stadium.

Leclerc placed fifth, Alex Albon of Williams sixth, and Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull seventh.

After a 10-second penalty, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli awarded Haas driver Oliver Bearman the victory by leaving the track after the Italian attempted a passing move into Turn 12 late in the race.

When his team informed him of the penalty during the race, Bearman apparently felt that Antonelli had forced him to take a late turn, and he could not believe it.

After Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll T-boned Esteban Ocon’s Haas into the first corner, leaving his team with a significant repair job on both cars in the lead-up to grand prix qualifying at 22:00 BST, the race ended under another safety car.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Amber Davies furiously responds to dancing experience backlash

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36090740.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_Strictly-Come-Dancing-2025.jpg

Despite having dance experience, Amber Davies faced criticism after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, but the West End actress has since addressed her critics.

Amber Davies has hit out at people who have criticised her. The Strictly Come Dancing star has been slammed in the past due to her previous dance experience.

The star who found fame on Love Island has since gone on to make a name for herself on the West End, having appeared in Legally Blonde and 9 to 5. And with this has come social media trolling, with many claiming she had an unfair advantage over her Strictly co-stars.

Reality TV star and actress Amber joined Strictly late after Dani Dyer had to pull out due to an injury. Some fans were enraged by this, as Amber has dance experience, having done it professionally as part of her musical theatre career.

Amber has responded to Amber’s response, revealing that she has worked tirelessly for her success and will continue to do so on Strictly. People will naturally have things to say if I’m struggling because I perform musical theatre, she said, “We see the same thing over and over again and I feel like it doesn’t matter what I say or how I feel.”

Amber went on to say: “I have worked my a**e off to be taken seriously in the musical theatre world, and I feel like I have been working so hard. The musical theatre world is actually quite small so once you work hard, you are committed, consistent in your job and are a good company member, you can build your reputation quite quickly within the industry.”

Amber went on to tell the Daily Mail that she came from a working-class family, which saw her parents work every hour in order for her and her sister to attend singing and acting lessons. But one person who knows about the backlash from Strictly is former contestant Layton Williams, who appeared on the show in 2023.

He also had roles in West End films like Billy Elliot and The West End. Amber contacted her, telling her to put herself in a “bubble” and embrace her experience on the show. Despite the criticism, Amber claims that the program will be a “positive moment” in her life.

Another source told The Mail on Sunday that Amber has been attacked for her extensive dance resume. She hasn’t experienced the same level of success as she had anticipated. The issue is that Strictly viewers won’t be tamed by such things. They prefer to follow a journey, not a trained professional.

The star received the news that she was appearing on the show, just 48 hours before she was in the training room with her professional dancer, Nikita Kuzmin. In the past, there had been claims that Amber had been turned down by Strictly – something which she vehemently denies.

Her time on the show comes after Amber signed with top PR firm, DawBell, who represent the likes of Michelle Keegan, Sir Paul McCartney and Harry Styles. In the past, she had been represented by leading entertainment publicist, Simon Jones, who works with One Direction, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Raye and Ant and Dec.

Simon told the Mirror that while he and Amber remain friends, they parted ways professionally in November 2024 as he was “refocusing” his business.
