Tie at Edgbaston as Somerset, Durham & Lancs win

As the women’s domestic season’s revamped top flight began to take shape, Durham, Somerset, and Lancashire all claimed victories in the One-Day Cup.

In addition, after the Bears’ last-ball run out, Warwickshire and Hampshire were tied in a dramatic game at Edgbaston.

Surrey and Somerset had a second match that came down to the final delivery.

Due to the rain, Somerset chased a target of 238 for the win by seven wickets after both innings were reduced to 33 overs.

With 64, Heather Knight, who hasn’t batted in a while since being removed as England’s captain in March, led Somerset in the final over to win.

In Durham’s nine-wicket victory over Essex, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates recorded a 93 not out for the Blaze, while England’s Emma Lamb added a superb 130 not out to beat The Blaze by eight wickets.

The ECB has described it as “the next stage in the evolution of women’s cricket,” and the eight top-tier teams will compete in the One-Day Cup and T20 Blast.

With more than 10,000 runs scored for New Zealand, Bates is unquestionably one of the biggest names in women’s cricket.

And Durham chased down Essex’s 177 all out with ease as the 37-year-old showed off her class on her debut, scoring freely on both sides of the wicket.

Lamb makes a statement for Lancashire.

With a score of 234 all out at Trent Bridge, Lancashire opener Lamb took the first to take a century in this season’s competition after taking three wickets.

Despite Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce scoring an innings for 70, Lamb’s 3-42 and 3-38 restricted the Blaze’s lead, 146-2, despite a strong innings from Lamb.

With only five overs to go, Lancashire chased down their target with Katie Mack (44) and Seren Smale (38 not out) providing excellent support for Lamb.

Rhianna Southby, the wicketkeeper, top scored with 72 in Birmingham, Hampshire, posted 208 in the state.

When Hampshire defeated Warwickshire to 189-9, still needing 20 to win, England pair Linsey Smith (4-39) and Lauren Bell (4-2-44) looked to have secured victory.

With one ball remaining, last-ball pairing Georgia Davis and Hannah Baker scored, but Davis was unable to hit the required single.

Surrey’s innings at Beckenham was delayed by the rain, but they did manage to post a score of 243-7 after 33 balls. With a 57-run, unbeaten effort, Alice Davidson-Richards was the star.

Although Knight and Emma Corney, age 21, initially had a run-rate of 122, the required run-rate increased after each pair went three overs.

‘I saw Pope’s body and couldn’t believe what people were doing by coffin’

Our reporters Matthew Young and Elizabeta Ranxburgaj were left shocked at people’s lack of respect for the Pope lying-in-state.

There was no silent reflection for what, ultimately, were just a few brief moments in front of the open coffin – a ritual steeped in hundreds of years of history. When crowds arrived before the body of Francis, they were asked to put selfie sticks away, but phones remained front and centre.

It made it difficult and uncomfortable for those who kept their phones in their pockets and chose moments of silence rather than souvenir pictures and videos.

Girl, 8, breaks neck on ‘lethal’ zipline at park after ’10 foot fall’

This Wednesday, we reported how a young girl was rushed to hospital with a broken neck following a ride on a “lethal” zipline in a recently revamped playpark.

Doctors were amazed Lois Crook’s spinal cord was not damaged after she was flung from a zipline that sped “dangerously fast”. The terrified eight-year-old’s mum, Emma Crook, said she was flung “around 10 feet in the air” when the ride rapidly gained momentum and flung her over the bumper at the end.

After taking her to hospital in a panic last month, medics later confirmed Lois had suffered a serious neck fracture, and quickly had a halo brace made for her. Lois’ parents are now campaigning to ensure other children don’t meet her same fate.

Our Showbiz reporters noted Katie Price’s latest look, as she took a break from her packed work schedule. The former glamour model, 46, is no stranger to going under the knife and has most recently had procedures done, including a facelift and having her ears pinned back during a trip to Turkey.

This week though, the telly star is keeping herself busy and is touring England and North Wales in an Easter pantomime but she made sure to take time out of her day to spend it with her young puppy and made the most of the refreshing sea breeze in Rhyl, North Wales.

TikTok star Dominique McShain has died aged 21 following a battle with colon cancer.

The New Zealand influencer was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 when she was 20 years old and updated her 200,000 fans on her journey. Earlier this month, on April 6, she told her followers she only had days to live. Over two weeks later, she died, as reported by People Magazine.

“I want to be direct with you all: this will be my final update on my cancer journey until I have passed away,” she said in her update. “I’ve recently been given a prognosis about five days ago of only a few days to a few weeks to live. My life may be short, but I genuinely think I’ve squeezed every bit out of it.”

She added: “I won the lottery with a family that loves me unconditionally, friends who would 10000% donate a liver to me or do anything they could (and probably argue over who gets to do it).

“Recently, I’ve been picturing Heaven often — a place where l’ll finally be free from the pain that’s been with me for so long. I imagine myself without the constant suffering, no longer needing medication just to survive the day.

“I’ll be able to run, to breathe, to feel whole. Though it will hurt to leave you all behind, please know that I will finally be out of pain, and I will be at peace.”

Dominique previously discussed the aggressive side effects of her chemotherapy treatment, which she underwent for seven months.

She said: “At this point, I’ve transitioned into end-of-life care, focusing on pain relief and managing side effects, with so much time spent in both the hospital and hospice facilities.

“I’ve been really numb to everything like I haven’t really been crying,’ she said in an emotional video update, the whites of her eyes tinged yellow.

“It’s crazy to think that I got given one to five years originally – I got diagnosed the 19th of April – and I’m not even a year yet.

“It just feels so surreal how fast my cancer has taken over my body and how fast it grows.”

She was diagnosed with colon cancer after noticing blood in her stool, periods of fatigue and constipation.

Former child star Sophie Nyweide, 24, ‘was pregnant’ when she died

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article35106884.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_MAIN-Sophie-Nywedie-pregnant-when-died.jpg

Sophie Nyweide, an actress, was 24 years old when she was discovered dead. Police are still looking into her death at this time, but they have no rule out foul play.

When Mammoth star Sophie Nywedie passed away at the age of 24, she was “pregnant.”

Actress Sophie Nyweide was found dead at the age of 24, with police investigating the death of the star not ruling out foul play. She was best known for playing the daughter of Michelle Williams and Gael García Bernal ’s characters in the 2009 romantic drama Mammoth and in a moving statement, her family paid a heartbreaking tribute to Sophie.

Sophie was a compassionate and reliable woman. She was frequently left vulnerable to being taken advantage of by others as a result. Much of the art depicts the depth she had and the pain she endured, and she wrote and drew voraciously. They said in a statement that many of her writings and artwork represent her struggles and traumas.

“Her closest to her, as well as therapists, law enforcement officers, and other people who tried to help her, are heartbroken that their efforts couldn’t save her from her fate,” she said.

She self-medicated to remove all the trauma and shame inside, which led to her death.

She repeatedly said she would “hand it” on her own and felt compelled to reject the treatment, which “possibly could have saved her life.”

Autopsy results would reportedly take six to eight weeks but an initial report, obtained by TMZ, showed she was pregnant when she died. Additionally, police have not ruled out foul play.

Shelly, Sophie Nyweide’s mom, told TMZ after her tragic death: “We are very distraught and mourning. All I can say is her time acting was brief but very happy.

She was not a child star in the least and did not suffer in those movies. On those sets, she was always safe. Please allow her to now rest peacefully.

Beyond her years, her father referred to her as “creative, athletic, and wise.”

The star’s body was discovered in the town of Vermont in the early hours of April 14 according to the publication, which was reported by Bennington Police. At the scene, she was declared dead.

Nothing has been ruled out in relation to Sophie’s death, according to authorities, who discovered her body close to a lean-to.

A man is said to be cooperating with police while Sophie died, but he is not regarded as a suspect or an intruder.

Tamara Ecclestone and her husband, Jay Rutland, were unable to recoup any of the £25million lost in their burglary due to an insurance catch, it is reported. The F1 heiress learned she and her husband weren’t able to claim any money back for the stolen items, including jewellery and watches, as the insurance policy for their sprawling mansion in Kensington, west London contained an exemption clause for watches and jewellery, which had previously gone unnoticed.

International jewel thieves had ransacked the family’s property while they were on holiday in Lapland in late 2019. It left Tamara, 40, traumatised and so the socialite had to take extra security measures to protect her family. Insurance lawyer Peter Mansfield, Partner at RPC, discussed the insurance policy and urged people to “read your policy and understand it”.

Tamara Ecclestone and Jay Rutland lost £25 million as a result of an exclusion in their insurance policy, he said, “Very sadly for them, but there are lessons to be learned from this oversight.

Read your policy and comprehend it, the message is clear. Although they can be lengthy, most policies today are written in plain English.

You should at the very least check the policy schedule, which provides a breakdown of the cover. Instead of checking the small print, the big print is used here.

“Many home and contents policies will cover valuables up to a certain value, like £5, 000,” according to the policy. However, you will be asked to disclose any particularly pricey items in the proposal form, such as expensive jewelry and watches. Your insurers and you would almost certainly want those valuables to be separately insured if they total £25 million.

Peter continued, “It’s important to understand the exclusion and conditions in your policy.”

Before choosing their final targets, the thieves spent many days scouting the mansions of London’s wealthy and famous, including the estates of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the late Leicester City owner, and of course, the Ecclestone mansion on Billionaires’ Row.

Three Italian men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle in three raids at Isleworth Crown Court two years after the crimes were committed.

Art investor Jay, 43, recently opened up about the incident and claimed to have been held accountable for the lack of diligence. He claimed that “our total insurance claim was for the doors in the house, which were literally smashed down by about 25 or 30 doors.

Every door to every room was locked, if you can imagine. Therefore, they had to crowbar each door that was open. So we demanded that those doors be replaced on the insurance, but that is all I can recall. Nothing else was covered by the insurance. Don’t get me wrong, we are responsible for that, and it demonstrates to you the importance of checking the small print. However, one of the policy’s exclusions was “watches and jewelry, very specifically.”
