Not got time to wait for fake tan to develop ahead of this week’s mini heatwave? This five star-rated body serum gives limbs an instant bronzed glow and is currently on sale

With hot weather set the stay for most of UK – for this week at least – you’ll probably be looking at switching your jeans and jumpers for shorts, skirts and T-shirts. And if you’re after a speedy way to perk up pasty limbs and don’t have time for – or don’t like using – a ‘proper’ fake tan, this is the quick fix you need to try.

This Works Perfect Legs Skin Miracle is a tinted body serum that gives an instant, natural golden glow to the skin without the need to wait for it to develop, wash it off, or use a mitt. It has accumulated hundreds of five star reviews online with shoppers loving how it “doesn’t streak” and gives “amazing results”.

Even better, it’s currently on sale, with a 150ml bottle reduced from £45 down to £33. 75 on both Amazon and Lookfantastic – and even better still, order from Amazon and you can also tick a box to apply an additional 20% discount, taking it down to £27. Plus, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can get it delivered the next day for free.

“Easy application, no streaks and does give a summer glow even after first application,” one Amazon shopper wrote. “It glides beautifully over skin and smells quite pleasant which doesn’t linger, left my legs feeling silky smooth. I would highly recommend it goes a long way and washes off your hands quite easily. “

“I love this for when there is a surprise sunny day,” a Lookfantastic fan review reads. “Just adds enough colour to my legs! Goes on really evenly as well. “

“Absolutely cannot bear the smell (or faff! ) or fake tan so I thought I’d try this as an alternative – absolutely love it, gives a lovely natural colour and smells delish! ” a third person wrote. “Would 100% recommend! “

And after seeing this week’s weather forecast, I dug a bottle out of my bathroom cupboard to test it out one sunny afternoon – and it did exactly what I needed it to. The colour it gives isn’t as perfectly bronzed as my favourite fake tan mousse – it’s instead more sheer – but on the plus side you can apply it with your hands without risking them staining, it’s easy to create an even finish (just rub in well), and the colour is instant.

On the minor down side, it does take a couple of minutes to dry (don’t go immediately squeezing into any skintight white clothing) and, like make-up, may transfer slightly if you get sweaty or wet. However, for better-looking limbs in a flash, I’ll be reaching for this on repeat this week.

Another similar product is Vita Liberata’s Body Blur, now down from £33 to £26. 40. It’s bee a while since I tried this but, from memory, it’s slightly thicker than the This Works one, and more of a matte finish instead of a subtly glistening one.

For a long-lasting bronze, however, Isle of Paradise Glow Clear Self Tanning Mousse, £19. 95, takes a bit more time and effort but doesn’t transfer and lasts for a week.

Wolves players ‘devastated’ club didn’t apply for promotion

Getty Images

Players from Wolves Women say their ultimately unsuccessful battle for promotion was “all for nothing” as the club had already decided not to apply to compete in the Women’s Championship.

Wolves won their final match of the Women’s Premier Division North season against Liverpool Feds 6-0 but finished three points off champions Nottingham Forest.

They still had a chance of earning promotion on the final day had results gone their way, but players said the club had chosen not to submit the necessary application to compete in England’s second tier, even if they had achieved the feat.

In a statement posted on X, midfielder Beth Merrick said: “Imagine fighting for promotion all season to find out our Championship bid was never submitted.

“As a group we are absolutely devastated to finish the season this way and believe it speaks volumes about the club’s ambitions for the women’s team. “

The Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) and Wolves have been approached for a response.

The licence criteria to compete in the Women’s Championship encourages further investment and there is an expectation for clubs to build towards a professional model, but there are currently no Wolves players on full-time contracts.

Defender Lily Simkin, who previously played for Women’s Super League club Birmingham City, said they “felt let down”.

She added on X: “As a group of staff and players we have been fighting all season and still achieved what some people at the club thought was impossible.

“We took it to the last day to find out it would have all been for nothing anyway. We deserve better. “

Sources at the club told BBC Sport that players and staff were called into a meeting after their final match with head of women’s football Jenna Burke-Martin and manager Dan McNamara.

Some were in tears, one source claimed, as players were informed that they had “played for nothing” and the club “never had any ambition to put a bid in” to play in the Women’s Championship.

Players felt they had shown they were able to compete on a low budget but had been “lied to” and shown “a lack of respect” by not being made aware of the club’s intentions.

There were positive signs last summer as manager McNamara, physio Christos Christofides and physical performance coach Nathan Maxfield were given full-time roles.

Three players were also given contracts but not on a full-time basis.

However, the women’s under-21s squad was scrapped in the summer and it is claimed a number of players are still not paid salaries, only their expenses.

Some staff members are unsure about their future at the club because there are question marks over the long-term ambitions.

Players are due to meet at the club on Tuesday, as originally planned, but have not received communication on what the next steps are.

Wolves have submitted applications for the Women’s Championship in previous seasons and lost in a play-off final to Southampton in 2022.

Supporter and host of The Wolves Women Podcast, Nick Andrews-Gauvain, told BBC Sport: “After what had been such a great day on Sunday – brilliant atmosphere, good football and a win for Wolves – it was devastating to hear the news break that the club didn’t support the players and staff.

“The club make a big thing about being ‘One Pack’ but this now feels like all spin rather than actually something they buy into.

Power Cut Interrupts Play At Madrid Open

Play was interrupted at the Madrid Open on Monday when a power cut struck the city after world number four Coco Gauff and rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva booked their   quarter-finals spots.

A power cut affecting “the whole of the Iberian peninsula and part of France”, according to Portuguese electricity network operator REN, halted matches shortly after 10. 30am GMT.

On Centre Court, the match between Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov and British qualifier Jacob Fearnley was suspended when the Bulgarian was leading 6-4, 5-4 with his opponent serving to stay in the match.

“The outage is preventing the use of electronic line calling systems and also left a spider cam dangling over the court inside Monolo Santana Stadium,” the ATP said on its website.

Tournament organisers said on social media they were “working to restore” power “as quickly as possible”, without giving a timetable.

Before the cut hit, American Gauff beat Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-4, 6-2 in the last 16.

Teenager Andreeva also progressed as she saw of Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-1, 6-4.

When play resumes in Madrid, Stefanos Tsitsipas  will take on Lorenzo Musetti  and fifth seed Jack Draper  is due to play Matteo Berrettini.

National power outage stops day’s play at Madrid Open

A national power outage has forced play to be suspended for the day at the Madrid Open.

Organisers say there will be no more action on Monday “in order to guarantee general safety”.

Swathes of Spain and Portugal have been without power since about midday local time, affecting public transport, card payments and mobile networks, though power is starting to return in some regions.

Portuguese energy company REN says the outage was caused by a “rare” atmospheric phenomenon, related to variations in temperatures.

Britain’s Jacob Fearnley among those forced off court on Monday.

Fearnley had saved a match point in his third-round encounter against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and was about to serve to stay in the match at 6-4 5-4 down when play was suspended on the main court.

The power cut meant the electronic line-calling system – which has replaced line judges – and scoreboards stopped working.

After a brief delay the umpire announced play would restart, with him making line calls in place of the system.

However, the spider camera which hangs low over the court had become stuck in place and was in the player’s eyelines.

Spain’s electricity grid operator Red Electrica confirmed power outages across the country and said it was working to restore electricity.

There have been reports traffic lights not working and the underground railway system being evacuated in Madrid, and a similar power outage in Portugal.

Scotland’s Fearnley is one of three British men due to play in the third round in Madrid on Monday.

Leinster’s Snyman set to be fit for Northampton semi

Inpho

Before Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton at the Aviva Stadium, RG Snyman’s fitness concerns have been addressed.

The Irish province announced on Monday that the former Munster forward had resumed full-time training in a squad update released by the province.

James Ryan, an Ireland lock who hasn’t played since the Six Nations, is still a big question as he recovers from a calf injury.

Leinster state that they will “look to increase his training load this week as he continues to recover from injuries and will be evaluated further as the week progresses.”

Nine days prior, Snyman was inserted in the URC victory over Ulster, but he was replaced midway through the first half.

Leinster’s team lost to the Scarlets over the weekend after Leinster indicated that he had a dead leg at the time.

Leinster confirmed that “RG Snyman has recovered from an injury and is now back in full training.”

Rob Russell’s recovery will be evaluated over the course of the week.

Will Connors suffered an arm injury against Scarlets, and he has been ruled out of the meeting with the English Premiership side despite playing the game at the weekend with no issues after returning from injury.
