‘Rob will be with me throughout London Marathon’

When Lindsey Burrow runs the London Marathon on Sunday, she says her late husband Rob “will be with me throughout.”

Mother-of-three Burrow, 42, is raising money in honor of former rugby league great Rob Burrow, who passed away in June of this year after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019.

Two weeks later, she will continue raising money for the Leeds Hospitals Charity and the Rhinos Foundation.

He will be with me the entire time as I run, telling me, “Come on run faster, you can do this,” Burrow told BBC Yorkshire.

“I’ll definitely be thinking of Rob and the MND community as I put on my trainers.” In order to make Rob proud, I am ultimately running the race.

Two years after retiring from a stellar 17-year career with the Leeds Rhinos, where he almost 500 appearances and won 13 awards, Rob received his MND diagnosis.

As Rob battled the disease himself, they managed to raise more than £1 million for MND charities with the assistance of former team-mate and close friend Kevin Sinfield. In the 2024 New Year’s Eve honors, both men received CBEs.

Without a positive outcome, “We can’t have gone through this.”

Pancreatic Cancer UK is the 45th edition of the London Marathon’s official charity of the year.

The most fatal common cancer is pancreatic cancer; more than half of those diagnosed in the UK pass away in three months.

The charity, which wants to raise £2 million to provide crucial early detection tests, will be running and raising money for the cause.

On the banks of the River Thames in London earlier in April, 797 pairs of running shoes were displayed. The donated items included those from pancreatic cancer patients, supporters, and families.

Jo Curtis, who lost her husband Stewart to pancreatic cancer, will be one of the candidates for Sunday. Stewart, who had been preparing for the marathon when he was diagnosed, underwent successful surgery, but the cancer returned a year later.

“We can’t have gone through this without there being a positive outcome,” said one of the most important things I’ve learned. What can I do, I kept asking myself. I had the thought, “I can do the marathon for him,” Curtis told BBC Sport.

“Stubborn to a fault… just dad, a lot of grit and determination.”

As his daughters Grace, Georgie-Lee, and Dannie prepare to run alongside him in his 17th and final London Marathon, they describe their father in that manner.

Despite having been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at the age of 10, the 67-year-old from West Bromwich first ran the London Marathon in 2002 and has since embarked on numerous extraordinary physical challenges to raise money for charity.

Heeley completed the first blind person to complete seven marathons across seven continents in seven days in 2008. He ran the length of the UK in 10 days, from John O’Groats to Land’s End, in 2011.

“I inquired, “Why me?” What have I done to merit this? Then I took a little journey and said, “You know what kid, life is for living.” Heeley told BBC Sport, “Let’s go out there and enjoy it.”

“Don’t worry about what you can’t do,” the message is. Give your efforts a focus on what you can and will accomplish.

Turnbull continues his father’s legacy by saying, “There is still work to be done.”

After losing her father, former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull, to the disease in 2022, Flora Turnbull will continue to raise awareness of the condition.

Following his efforts to raise awareness of the disease, the NHS’s referral rate for prostate cancer reached a record high a year after Bill’s passing.

His diagnosis and actor Stephen Fry’s willingness to discuss prostate cancer were identified by NHS England as the “turnbull and Fry effect.”

Turnbull, 33, said: “We as a family were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and thanks from people across the country, especially those men who were inspired to learn more about their own prostate cancer risk and speak to their GP. We as a family were inspired by the outpouring of love and thanks from people across the country.

Billy Ray Cyrus breaks silence on Elizabeth Hurley romance and who made first move

Billy Ray Cyrus, a country singer, opened up about his surprise new relationship with Liz Hurley, who was the first to ask him about it.

Fans were told to anticipate more images of Billy Ray Cyrus and his new partner Liz Hurley.

Days after their newfound relationship stunned fans, Billy Ray Cyrus has broke his silence on his romance with Elizabeth Hurley. The country singer opened up about their pairing on Apple Music Country’s The Ty Bentli Show almost a week after Liz’s social media post sent fans into overdrive.

Taking to Instagram over the Easter weekend, the actress, 59, shared a snap of the singer, 63, giving her a kiss at her farmyard home. Now, more details of how the came to hook up has came to light thanks to the controversial star himself.

He continued, “Wow, can life get any harder,” he said on the program. Is it even tougher? You can’t get knocked down any flatter than lying on your back when life is kicking you, he said at a certain point. And a friend reached out at this precise moment.

As he continued, “So, I text back, I go, “Who is this? “, he admitted he didn’t recognize the number of the helping hand. And it’s similar to Elizabeth Hurley. This friend who made me laugh was the one who reached out to me in that second, perhaps the one that I most needed.

The duo hadn’t spoken in two years following the filming of their 2022 movie, Christmas In Paradise. But the Achy Breaky Heart singer said he remembered their chemistry on set and the quickly took it from where they had left off.

He admitted that “we just laughed, and it wasn’t when I wasn’t laughing a lot.” First, how much we laughed, was the strangest part. Second, I assumed that although we were very different, we shared far more in common than we were different.

Before calling his former co-star and new love interest a “great human being,” he claimed Dolly Parsons is her. He continued, “If you can laugh together, you can make it through everything,” calling her a “very smart businesswoman.”

Billy Ray gushed about the “reveal” image, insisting that more will be shared. Why does he always kiss her when he joked, “There will be one coming where she kisses me because people have been saying that. I don’t know what happens when I see her, but when she puts her cheek out there, I just kiss it.

It was said a decision by Liz’s son Damian Hurley prompted the blossoming romance too. He is said to have been the person behind the camera for the first sweet social media snap.

And it’s also thought his decision to leave the family home spurred his mum into making a new bond. Speaking to the Mail, an insider claimed: “The new relationship is filling a void because Damian has moved out.

Because “he’s got his own place in West London’s Earl’s Court,” they are still very close and frequently see one another, but it’s not just them at home anymore.

The source continued, “It only really started about six weeks ago, though he was probably texting her for a few months before.” He has been sending her the most beautiful texts three or four times per day. They almost resemble poetry, according to her. expressing her sexiness, youthfulness, and beauty.

The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ is back after a decade but with a powerful new message

James Charles and other famous people have joined the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, but this time it’s for a cause.

Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge? In 2014, people threw buckets of ice water on their hair to raise funds and awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The challenge took over the internet, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds. Fast forward to now, it has made a comeback but this time it’s all about mental health awareness.

A University of South Carolina (USC) student-run organisation called MIND (Mental Illness Needs Discussion) launched the ‘Speak Your Mind Ice Bucket Challenge’ in March 2025. In a statement posted on Active Mind’s website, Wade Jefferson, a sophomore at USC and the founder of the MIND Club said the campaign inspired by the viral ALS challenge had been “surreal.” He wrote: “We’re proud, grateful and just excited to see how far it’s gone and [will] continue to go.”

Videos of people participating and recreating the challenge are going viral and all for a good cause, to encourage donations to Active Minds. Celebrities have been getting involved in the fun challenge to raise awareness, including NFL players Peyton Manning, Emmanuel Sanders, James Charles and Haley Baylee.

The ALS Association also praised MIND’s efforts, saying they were “thrilled” that the Ice Bucket Challenge was returning and that it was “a new form of activism.”

As reported by Yahoo! News, the ALS Association said: “We applaud efforts to raise awareness for causes like mental health — an issue that also affects the ALS community in profound ways.”

As they navigate a fatal disease that alters every aspect of life, “people living with ALS, their caregivers, and loved ones frequently face depression, anxiety, grief, and isolation,” it continued.

Pat Quinn, Pete Frates, and Anthony Senerchia, who were all ALS-positive, were also honored by the ALS Association. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was “a powerful movement,” the post added. Their “spirit of collective action” is still inspiring us as we work to make ALS treatable and treatable.

The Ice Bucket Challenge is what, exactly?

The Ice Bucket Challenge went viral in 2014 on Facebook. It began when, professional golfer Chris Kennedy challenged his cousin, Jeanette Senerchia, to partake in the challenge in honour of her husband, Anthony Senerchua, who had been diagnosed with ALS.

What turned into a “joke” eventually caught the attention of their hometown, including Pete Frates, a former college baseball player who had been diagnosed with the progressive neurodegenerative disease in 2012, and Pat Quinn, co-founder of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The inspiring fundraiser reached more than 17 million people and raised more than $85 million for ALS research in an effort to raise awareness.

Here’s how the viral challenge works for those who don’t remember: you fill a bucket with cold water and ice cubes, nominate others to participate, and watch as someone places the bucket on you. The purpose of the Ice Bucket Challenge was to make participants choose between giving to charities or getting soaked in freezing water. People who took the cold plunge instead of giving instead once it became popular.

The USC Ice Bucket Challenge began in what way?

In March 2025, Wade Jefferson, the founder of MIND (Mental Illness Needs Discussion) from the University of South Carolina, posted a video on Instagram saying that they were launching the “SparkYourMIND Ice Bucket Challenge.”

In the post, they stated that all participants would be required to nominate those who could “SpeakYourMIND,” with the proceeds going to Active Minds, the largest US charity dedicated to removing the stigma surrounding mental health in young people and adults.

When two of his close friends passed away by suicide, Wade Jefferson was the financial sponsor of the MIND club, according to NBC News. Originally aiming to raise £372, which is $500, the campaign raised over £142, 000. With current conversion rates of $250, 000, Active Minds has now set a new goal of raising £187, 048.

FA Cup or Champions League qualification – which means more?

Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Manchester City are gearing up for the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

Three of the four, Forest, Villa, and City, are also chasing top-five Premier League victories to earn a Champions League spot next year.

Which is more important, winning the FA Cup or qualifying for the Champions League?

You can watch the first semi-final of Crystal Palace’s match on Saturday at 17:15 BST on BBC One, iPlayer, BBC Sport website, and app.

For a place in the final, Nottingham Forest will face Manchester City at 16:30 the following day.

A top-five finish in the Premier League guarantees at least eight games in Europe’s elite club competition, whereas the winners of English football’s showpiece final at Wembley on May are guaranteed a significant trophy as well as a place in the Europa League next season.

Which is more crucial, though?

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha claims that “the chance of a trophy is enormous, regardless of anything else going on.”

“Lifting silverware creates truly iconic moments.

Champions League cash or a major trophy?

The FA Cup this year has had its fair share of surprises, which will give this weekend’s semi-finals a somewhat unfamiliar look.

Record 14-time Olympiades Arsenal and Liverpool both lost in the third round, while last year’s champions Manchester United lost on penalties to Fulham at Old Trafford in the fifth round, while the previous year’s winners came out in the third round and the Premier League champions-in-waiting Liverpool also lost in the fourth round.

Only four of the four remaining teams have lost the FA Cup, with Crystal Palace the only exception.

Although Manchester City has won two of its previous six championship matches, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest haven’t won the prestigious trophy in more than 60 years.

Villa has won the FA Cup twice, but they last did it in 1956-57.

Since 1958-1959, Forest, who is now two-time champions, has won the European Cup twice.

A million people watch the FA Cup final on a worldwide television network, and the winners of the event are presented with a significant trophy in front of their national stadium.

A table showing the top eight in the Premier League as the race to qualify for next season's Champions League intensifies.

The FA Cup winning philosophy is “eternal.”

West Ham, Tottenham, Cardiff, and Preston won the FA Cup game for the first time this season, earning Aston Villa a total of £910, 000 in prize money. For their five Champions League league-phase victories this year, they won £8.85 million.

Villa, Forest, City, or Crystal Palace will only receive £2 million in prize money if they win the FA Cup final next month, despite earning clubs an additional £9.27 million each.

Forest’s final game in the top club competition in European football ended in October 1980, when it was renamed the Champions League before going on to become known as the European Cup.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is currently fourth in the Premier League with a three-point lead over Chelsea with five games to play.

Champions League football would offer a much better opportunity for laying a solid foundation for future success, according to Forest fan Ben Smith, who wants to be an FA Cup romantic.

Simon, a fellow Forest fan, has a different opinion.

“Yes, European football brings in money,” he says. But he claims that a cup’s success is unchanging.

Look at the joy of Newcastle fans, who will be more fond of their achievements than the first time they placed in the top four.

We compete to finish among the top five.

After enduring victories over Bayern Munich, Bologna, and Celtic, Villa are desperate for more big European nights in the shadow of the stars.

Unai Emery’s side must finish in the top five to qualify for the Champions League after losing 5-4 on aggregate to Paris St-Germain in the quarter-finals.

They are currently seventh, two points behind fifth after playing one more game than the three rival teams that are just ahead of them. In contrast to their competitors, their goal difference is also lower.

Villa are only two wins away from winning the first major trophy since Brian Little’s team defeated Leeds United in the 1996 League Cup final.

Do they prioritize winning the FA Cup over placing first in the top five?

After his team lost to Manchester City by a 2-1 on Tuesday, Villa manager Emery declared, “Of course, the Premier League is our priority.”

We are in the top five of the Premier League.

More than 30 000 Villa fans are expected to attend Wembley to see them face Palace this weekend in their first FA Cup semi-final since ten years.

Emery continued, “Playing in the semi-finals is special. We put in a lot of effort into it. We must now move forward.

The FA Cup semi-final, according to Onuoha, is Villa’s biggest game of the season.

We saw with Newcastle what it can mean for supporters to win silverware, he continued, noting that it can sometimes be something special.

Villa wants to try to win the trophy, they say. It would be easy to argue that it is their biggest game so far this season.

In the current era of the financial viability of Champions League qualification, I believe it to be a possibility.

The players will be aware of the game’s massiveness, and all those fans who travel to Wembley will be aware of it.

The main objective of Champions League is to win the semi-final, but “important to win.”

Amazingly, this is Manchester City’s seventh successive FA Cup appearance.

They then advanced to the finals, winning two of them in 2019 and 2023.

However, City and Pep Guardiola’s decision to leave the Champions League would be a huge blow, as the latter said “we haven’t done anything special with just one” after being crowned champions of Europe for the first time in 2023.

City leads Chelsea by four points, which is third place, with just one game left to play.

Onuoha noted that Guardiola has spent a lot of time this year highlighting how effective this team has been in recent years, including reaching seven FA Cup semi-finals in a row.

He has been more resolute about how to describe his team because “many teams have not reached seven in their entire history.”

He wants to make sure that people are aware of where he is from, where the club is from, how effective they have been historically, and how he still believes in the team.

In the past, City did not make it to the Champions League, as did Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes, who claimed qualification was top of the list in the final weeks of the season.

After the midweek league win over Villa, Nunes said, “It’s important to go and win the semi-final, but I think our main goal is to try to qualify for the Champions League.”
