Since his days on Pop Idol in the early noughties, Simon Cowell has become one of the most familiar faces in showbiz. Having started his career in the entertainment industry as a mail room clerk for EMI Music Publishing, the music mogul climbed his way up the corporate ladder before forming his own record label, S Records.

“I was fearless because I had nothing to lose,” he told MailOnline. “I irritated the hell out of everyone in the music business because I was this jumped-up arrogant kid who absolutely believed in myself.”

Having helped propel countless musicians into the spotlight, during his thirties, Simon, now 65, moved into the world of TV, starting out on Pop Idol.

After rising to fame, Simon became a household name and later created talent shows including The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. In turn, he has played a hand in breaking artists including One Direction, Leona Lewis and Little Mix.

As a result of his successes, it’s been reported that the music mogul has a net worth of £492 million. However, Simon has said he’s not worth anywhere near as much. “Oh God, it’s not that. I’m not even close to that. I’m being serious. I’m not. I’ve made a lot, I’m not going to lie. I’ve made a bit of money, yes, but not that much, no,” he told Elizabeth Day on her How To Fail podcast.

Despite his wealth, Simon added that he worries about finances due to the world being “so precarious”. Speaking to Elizabeth, he opened up on how he put his shows into production prior to the Covid lockdown out of fear the projects would be put on hold. “I always worry about money because I think you have to in a way,” he said.

Back in 2011, the TV personality spoke to GQ about his fortune and revealed that he’d leave “the whole lot to charity” when asked what he’d do with his money. “You can enjoy it while you’ve got it, and then it’s gone to good causes afterwards,” he explained, before adding that he’d picked out charities relating to children and animals.

He elaborated: “One of the good things about making money is that you can help other people. It feels good when you do it. I like doing it.”

Meanwhile, speaking to MailOnline in 2015, after the birth of his son Eric, Simon voiced similar opinions. “I don’t like the idea that you just sort of pass it down from generation to generation and it just gets bigger. I mean, I find that actually quite disgusting,” he said.

He continued: “As a father, I want my son to be OK, but you know no one ever gave me a penny and I believe part of my drive was to do with the fact I had nothing to lose. That gives you a lot of energy.”

In recent years, Simon has continued to work as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent alongside Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli. With The X Factor coming to an end in 2018 after 14 years on our TV screens, Simon spoke to The Sun about what he’d do differently with the show.

“It’s a tricky one but there are hundreds of people who still want to be pop stars. We’d have to go back to basics. The other thing we did with the show was to keep tinkering with it, adding new formats,” he said.

“When we first started the show it was very simple with unique elements. I’d argue you can’t make a better music show than that.”

He also recently launched a quest to find the next big new boy band. “I have no idea how this is going to end because until we find the band that’s sort of it but there is something I’m going to do in the middle which I’ve never done before which I’ll tell you about later,” he said on This Morning back in July 2024.

Alison added: “I think you’ll put them in a house together.” Simon replied: “It’s kind of close to that but something different which I’ve never done before. I think 1D [One Direction] it was always about friendship and Spice Girls, and the determination to be success.”

Ronaldo’s Son Gets Portugal Under-15s Call Up

Cristiano Ronaldo’s five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano dos Santos, was first called up to the Portugal Under-15 squad on Tuesday.

The 14-year-old has also had connections with Ronaldo’s former clubs Manchester United and Juventus, like his father, who plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

At the Vlatko Markovic youth tournament in Croatia on May 13 and 18, the Selecao Under-15s will face Japan, Greece, and England.

Despite Saudi interest, Amorim is steadfast in keeping Fernandes.

At age 40, Ronaldo, the all-time top goal scorer for Real Madrid and still a Portugal international, has five children.

Although he suffered a foot injury in the opening match of the Euro 2016 final against France, the striker helped his nation win their first major trophy.

Teddi Mellencamp has shared a poignant update on her fight against stage four cancer, detailing the intense emotional journey she’s been on.

In February, the podcast host disclosed that following a skin cancer diagnosis in 2022, doctors discovered ‘multiple’ tumors in her brain and lung. After enduring a harrowing brain surgery, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, aged 43, made a powerful appearance at a cancer benefit last week, choosing to forgo a wig and courageously display the scars from her recent surgeries.

She has now opened up to her followers about how she decides whether to wear a wig or not, with her choice reflecting her mood on any given day.

“The day to day decision of wig versus no wig. Crying days I tend to pick the wig,” she shared on Instagram, posting a selfie where she dons a full blonde wig.

Teddi highlighted the stark ups and downs of undergoing treatment for stage 4 brain and lung tumors, while also taking the opportunity to encourage her fans to get regular health checks. “The highs and lows of treatment for stage 4 brain and lung tumors are pretty extreme. Please go get your yearly checks,” she implored.

As the daughter of music legend John Mellencamp, she took the chance to remind everyone that it’s melanoma awareness month, stressing the importance of scheduling check-ups and encouraging others to do the same.

This heartfelt insight comes after Teddi gave an exclusive interview to DailyMail.com, where she described her life as ‘devastating’ and spoke openly about her stage four cancer diagnosis. The reality TV personality attended the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s annual gala, An Unforgettable Evening, alongside her close friend Kylie Richards, where she opted to proudly show her bare head instead of wearing a wig.

Revealing her head scars from the numerous medical procedures she’s endured this year, she looked absolutely fabulous in a chic black suit paired with shimmering silver heels.

During the event, she provided an update on her harrowing health journey and firmly addressed those who criticised her for continuing to ride horses amidst her treatment. “This is my first night out since I got out of the hospital,” she declared.

“I feel good. I know it feels really devastating right now, but everything – it gets better.”

Just last week, she shared some positive news that the tumors ‘have shrunk a bunch’ thanks to immunotherapy, with her medical team optimistic about the progress.

The reality TV personality is gearing up for one final round of the innovative cancer therapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to combat cancer cells, before her next major assessment on June 1.

Teddi’s health crisis brought her divorce proceedings to a temporary standstill, which started after she filed the necessary paperwork in late 2024.

Rihanna has assured fans that her impending bundle of joy won’t cause too much of a delay to her upcoming album.

The 37 year old pop sensation, who is expecting her third child with beau A$AP Rocky, confirmed the joyful news at Monday’s Met Gala. This led some fans to question whether her highly anticipated record would be pushed back.

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, the Umbrella singer was asked if the album, affectionately nicknamed ‘R9’, would be ‘put on pause even longer’. Rihanna responded: “No, maybe a couple of videos.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting this album for nine years, but RiRi hinted that plans are still on track. She cheekily added: “I can sing!”

Rihanna, already mum to sons RZA, two, and Riot, 21 months, with Rocky, also shared that she isn’t feeling ‘too overwhelmed’ by her pregnancy, despite an initial shock. She said: “I’m good! I’m shockingly feeling ok, and not too overwhelmed at the moment. At first it was kinda like, ‘Ahhh!'”

Meanwhile, fans continue to wait for the successor to 2016’s Anti. While specifics about the album remain scarce, Rihanna gave a sneak peek into what fans might expect from the record in February. Speaking to Harper’s BAZAAR magazine, she revealed: “I’ve been in the studio the whole eight years. But it didn’t hit me. I was searching for it. I went through phases of what I wanted to do. ‘This kind of album, not that album’.”

“I know it’s not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it’s not going to be commercial or radio, digestible. It’s going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now. I feel like I’ve finally cracked it, girl!”

The singer emphasised that the album doesn’t fit into any specific genre and that she’s been focused on creating music that reflects her personal growth.

She said: “After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter. I have to show them the worth in the wait. I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.”

When asked by a reporter at the Met if there were any other big announcements, such as a secret wedding with boyfriend ASAP Rocky, Rihanna responded with a laugh, “No, girl, you don’t know I keep secrets very well.”

ASAP Rocky co-chaired this year’s gala, themed Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with a dress code of Tailored for You. He arrived ahead of Rihanna, who joined him later.

Before her arrival, Rocky couldn’t resist expressing his admiration for his partner, telling the Associated Press: “It feels amazing, you know. It’s time that we show the people what we was cooking up.”

“And I’m glad everybody’s happy for us ’cause we definitely happy, you know.”

Rihanna chose a Marc Jacobs ensemble that accentuated her blossoming baby bump with a structured corseted bodice and cropped suit jacket. The outfit was topped off with an oversized hat and a maroon polka-dotted necktie.

This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, delves into 300 years of Black fashion history, exploring the concept of black dandyism and its enduring influence on modern style.

Each year, Vogue editor Anna Wintour personally selects a group of celebrities to serve as co-chairs and kickstart the museum’s exhibition. This year, alongside Rocky, Wintour picked seven-time Formula One world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, singer and producer Pharrell Williams, and Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo.
