Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has promised to pay $2.5 million for each gold medal won by state athletes at the state’s inaugural National Sports Festival, which took place on Sunday.

Additionally, the governor promised to pay $1. 5 million and $1 million for each silver and bronze medal won at the event.

Governor Dapo made the commitment during a visit to the state’s Ilisan-Remo, Ilisan-Remo, Athletes Camp.

Governor Abiodun also promised the sum of $50,000 to each Ogun State athlete who would participate in the camp while addressing the state contingents there, urging them to leave and make the state proud.

“I am aware that an instant award is presented when you win a medal.” He said, “Once you get a medal, you get a reward, a huge one,” he said.

“Anyone who wins a gold medal at this festival will receive $2. 5 million from me.”

I’ll give the silver medalist $1. 5 million for each silver medal. A bronze medal winner will receive $1,000,000.

You are here because you represent Ogun State the best. Anyone who isn’t present must represent Ogun State. You are here to win rather than compete alone. You must bring the medals home with you because we want to win.

The governor appreciated the athletes for displaying exemplary character in serving their motherland by recognizing that Ogun is known for being the best in the state as well as the state has produced world-class athletes and women who have made the country proud.

The National Sports Festival was meant to unite all Nigerians. By the time you leave, you will have forged friendships across the Niger and Benue.

You’ve traveled from all over this state, camped, and practiced for months in preparation for the competition.

We have provided the resources and infrastructure that have made Nigerian sports as the national benchmark. The governor stated that the newly renovated International Sports Arena in Abeokuta will host international competitions and that the state is “working to develop the sports economy in Ogun State.”

US PGA Championship Final Round 2025

-11 Scheffler (US), -6 DeChambeau (US), English (US), Riley (US)

Selected others:, -5 Pendrith (Can), Poston (US), Vegas (Ven), -4 Fitzpatrick (Eng), Rahm (Spa), -1 Schauffele (US), + 2 Fleetwood (Eng), + 3 McIlroy (NI)

Jon Rahm’s rejuvenated 54-hole lead was ended by an emotional Scottie Scheffler, who won the first US PGA Championship title.

A different story was in danger at Quail Hollow, despite the five stroke winning margin suggesting that his third major was a formality.

Scheffler, the world’s number one, had a two-way rivalry for the Wanamaker Trophy when he started three shots ahead of Rahm and five clear of him.

They took the lead halfway through the final round thanks to Scheffler’s patchy front nine and Spaniard Rahm’s string of birdies around the turn.

Before snatching the trophy, Scheffler said, “I knew it would be a challenging day.”

“I did a good job of being patient on the front nine,” I said. “Finishing off a major championship is always challenging.

“I didn’t play my best stuff, but I kept myself in it, put up a good nine holes, and that’s what I did.”

Scheffler posted birdies on the 10th, 14th, and 15th to re-establish a buffer after opening the door for Rahm by shooting two over par for his first nine.

On the challenging “Green Mile” finale, Rahm’s attempts to catch the 28-year-old ended his hopes of his own third major success.

On the par-three 17th hole, he made a double-bogey five before making a bogey on 16 and putting his tee shot into the water on the par-three. He fell to a tie of eighth after two more dropped shots on the final hole.

Bryson DeChambeau, who finished in second place behind fellow Americans Davis Riley and Harris English, whose six-under 65 helped him move up the leaderboard.

Rory McIlroy finished with a 72 to tie for 47th after completing a career Grand Slam at the Masters in April.

Nigerian Air Force Offers Free Medical Services In Port Harcourt To Mark 61st Anniversary

In order to commemorate its 61st anniversary, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) held a free medical outreach on Saturday in Port Harcourt’s Rumuomasi neighborhood.

The outreach, which was organized by the Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital, offered free healthcare services like reading glasses, dental and eye exams, laboratory tests, and medical consultations.

Wing Commander Bashir Adamu, Group Captain Adekunle Abdulateef, the commander of the 115 Special Operations Group, described the outreach as a sign of the NAF’s commitment to community service and a crucial component of its corporate social responsibility.

Our unwavering commitment to the people we serve is demonstrated by this medical outreach. It reflects our efforts to touch the hearts of our host communities as well as our air bases as well as those of our neighbors. It is done to maintain civil-military relations within our professional environments.

The NAF, one of the services of the Nigerian Armed Forces, has been in charge of providing essential amenities or medical outreach to the host communities, according to Adamu.

He noted that the Rumuomasi Community made the decision to hold this year’s medical outreach because they thought the state’s residents needed urgently, and that Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the chief of the Air Staff, was also conducting the initiative while also serving various host communities throughout the nation.

Squadron Leader Tamunoene Ebenezer, in addition to Air Commodore Ikechukwu Ogbodo, the NAF Reference Hospital, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to civil-military cooperation. He emphasized that the outreach was not just about promoting medical care but also fostering a stronger military-civil partnership.

Our effectiveness is also impacted by our interaction with the populace, not just by our operational prowess. He said that this initiative fosters goodwill, builds trust, and demonstrates that the Nigerian Air Force is a people-centered institution.

The event’s attendees expressed their gratitude. Mrs. Babatunde Adetuji praised the NAF and prayed for its ongoing protection of its personnel after receiving free eye care. Engr. is another beneficiary. John Chinda praised the effectiveness of the services, describing the outreach as quick and efficient. The initiative turned out to be beneficial for numerous community members.

Lineker expected to leave the BBC

Gary Lineker will leave the BBC on Monday, with announcing his departure.

The 64-year-old will step down after his final Match of the Day performance over the weekend is causing a lot of speculation.

Despite previously announcing he would leave Match of the Day at the end of this season, Lineker was supposed to continue to be in charge of the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup in 2026. He is currently the highest-paid presenter on the network.

Lineker expressed regret for the references, adding that he would never unintentionally share anything antisemitic.

Everyone cares about the BBC’s reputation, according to BBC Director General Tim Davie, and mistakes can cost us.

The former England striker has previously received negative feedback for his social media posts.

After a partial impartiality dispute over a post in which he claimed language used to promote a government asylum policy was “not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 1930s,” he was temporarily suspended from the BBC in March 2023.

Presenters of flagship programs outside of news and current affairs, such as Match of the Day, have “a particular responsibility to respect the BBC’s impartiality, because of their profile on the BBC,” according to new social media rules from the BBC.

Lineker announced his retirement from Match of the Day in November 2024, but he said he would continue working for the BBC to provide coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup.

Lineker claimed in an earlier this year interview that he thought the BBC wanted him to leave Match of the Day while negotiating a new contract, adding that “someone might want me to leave.” That was perceived as well.

Lineker was referred to as a “world-class presenter” by the BBC at the time, but the show “continues to evolve for changing viewing habits.”
