The evolution of language through social media

From Shakespeare’s eloquent soliloquies to Gen Z’s rapid-fire abbreviations, language is evolving as quickly as the world itself. Driven by social media, globalisation, and shifting cultural norms, the way we speak is constantly being rewritten. We explore how emerging linguistic trends reflect how younger generations connect with their world, and whether these changes threaten native languages and cultural identities.

Reigning World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlioglu completed a hat-trick of victories at Misano by winning the second feature race.

The BMW rider, 28, also won Saturday’s opening race and Sunday’s Superpole sprint race.

From pole position, Razgatlioglu dominated the third and final race of the weekend to move within nine points of championship leader Nicolo Bulega.

The Turk will transfer to the MotoGP series in 2026, having signed a deal to ride a Yamaha for Prima Pramac Racing.

From starting 10th on the grid, Italian Bulega finished almost 10 seconds behind, with Ducati team-mate Alvaro Bautista in third place.

Razgatlioglu won the Superpole race earlier, which set the grid for the second feature race, ahead of England’s Alex Lowes and Yamaha’s Andrea Locatelli.

EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has paid tribute to the dad of her two kids on Father’s Day, Dan Osbourne, amid reports he sent flirty texts to Christine McGuinness

Jacqueline Jossa has sent a heartfelt message to her husband, Dan Osbourne, on Father’s Day

Jacqueline Jossa has praised her husband, Dan Osbourne, for being “the best daddy ever” on Father’s Day as they continue to rebuild their relationship. The couple, who share daughters, Mia and Ella, have been hit with a number of allegations about their marriage after announcing in March they were spending time apart before giving things another go on a “make or break” holiday to Mexico with their kids.

Dan, 32, has also recently been accused of sending flirty texts to Paddy McGuinness’ ex-wife, Christine, however his pal claimed the dad-of-three would ‘hate for there to be any suggestion of impropriety’, adding ‘a man and woman can be mates’.

Today, Dan’s wife, Jac, also 32, told the TOWIE star how important he was to their family as she shared a snap of her husband in his Calvin Klein pyjama bottoms opening cards and presents from his daughters and son, Teddy.

The children had made their dad cakes, iced with ‘King of Hearts’ and photos of Dan as the proud father-of-three enjoyed the morning at home. Documenting the special day, Jac also shared a photo of her husband with their daughters, with the caption: “Happy Father’s Day @danosborneofficial – the best daddy ever.”

After announcing they had decided to spend time apart in March, Jac and Dan seemed like they were not ready to give each up just yet as they jetted off to Mexico for a “make or break” family holiday with their children. Speaking to the Mirror, a source said the pair were “trying to fall back in love with each other again.”

They explained: “They’ve had a rocky, up and down relationship so now they’re trying to do things differently and give each other more space at home, while enjoying this holiday. Jacqueline and Dan want to be together for their children and do want to be a family, but now it’s a case of remembering why they were together in the first place.”

However, recently, the couple, who have just come back from a family trip to Ireland, were rocked again when Dan was accused of sending saucy messages to former Miss Liverpool, Christine.

Christine wasin the middle of a divorce with comedian, Paddy, and it was thought the pair found solace in each other’s situation and formed a strong bond. The Real Housewives of Cheshire star’s marriage was over, but Dan was reportedly still trying to mend his broken home with Jac.

According to The Sun, the pair who have known each other since 2019, had stayed in touch over the years and remained friendly when they bumped into each other, but sparks soon became noticeable.

A source told the publication: “They stayed in touch sporadically and would bump into each other at events and their messages got pretty flirty. Some were seen by mutual friends.

“She would call him ‘D’ in texts, and it became an open secret among their circles. There is no suggestion anything sexual happened, but it’s fair to say there was a spark between them.”

The insider insisted: “She is absolutely adamant nothing sexual happened between them. She also was 100 per cent single at the time and could chat to anyone she wanted.”

Dan is also adamant there was no romance between the pair with a pal saying: “Dan is devoted to Jacqueline and would hate for any suggestion of impropriety. Of course, it’s possible for a man and woman to be mates.”

Katie Price was dating millionaire’s son Scott Sullivan – and reported to be engaged to him – before finding love with Pete Andre back in 2004

Back in the early Noughties, Katie Price was in a relationship before she jetted off to Australia to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and clapped eyes on future husband Peter Andre.

She went on to flirt with Mysterious Girl singer Pete throughout the series, even telling him that the man she’d left at home – millionaire’s son Scott Sullivan – was “a nice guy, but I’m not going to marry him… I know he’s not the one.”

Scott, who Katie is believed to have been dating for two years at the time and is even said to have proposed to her before she went in the jungle, reportedly threatened to fly Down Under to confront Pete and ‘punch his lights out.’

And it was claimed more than just flirting had happened between Katie and Pete than was shown in the show, as they apparently came within ‘millimetres’ of bonking on camera. Within days of getting together after the series ended, Katie and Pete declared themselves ‘in love’.

They went on to marry in a lavish £2 million ceremony in Hampshire in 2005 and have two kids – Junior and Princess, now 20 and 17 – before it all went wrong and they divorced in 2009.

But what happened to heartbroken Scott, who dated a string of glamour models back in the day? We take a look at his life now, which is very glamorous to when we last saw him.

Now thought to be in his late thirties, Scott is a successful businessman who owns private plane charter firm Shy Aviation and luxury travel concierge service Shy Lifestyle, that’s so exclusive it’s invite only – flying the likes of Gossip Girl pal Ed Westwick round the world.

After dating the likes of glamour models Jodie Marsh and Bianca Gascoigne, he romanced former Made In Chelsea star Caggie Dunlop before finding love with Caggie’s MIC love rival Funda Onal, who also used to date Spencer Matthews.

The couple married in 2017 and a year later announced Funda was pregnant with their first child. Sharing an intimate shot of him kissing his wife’s bump, Scott captioned the photo: “A new family is born.”

Funda, now 40, is a model, actor and dancer who has appeared in campaigns for Nike and Adidas, as well as music videos for Calvin Harris and Tinie Tempah – appears to be a mum to two girls now, with her youngest appearing on her social media from 2022 meaning they are likely to be aged around seven and three.

Though it’s not been reported that Scott and Funda have split, there are no pictures of Scott on her Instagram anymore – nor is she on his. And Scott – who has only posted one snap of a little girl on his socials back in 2020 – now appears to be in a new relationship and is preparing to be a father again.

Tagging a woman called Katherine Scott, who has recently appeared on his social media feed, he shared a black and white photo looking down at her pregnant belly. He captioned the post from May 31 this year: “A new Soul among us.”

And it seems Katherine is indeed his other half as one follower congratulated them on the happy news and wrote: “Such a stunning couple, inside and out.” “Beyond happy for you both,” another said.

“This gave me chills, so much love in one photo,” a third commented, as a fourth added: “A powerful soul it is. Congratulations brother x.”

In other snaps on his social media, Scott is into his cars and extreme sports such as skiing, rock climbing and wakeboarding. He’s also a big fan of Jiu Jitsu and regularly posts snaps from sessions with pals.

Perhaps the worst part of camping out in the world or overnight at a festival is the shower situation. Whether you prefer to go without for the duration of your trip or choose to try your luck with the communal facilities, neither is ideal. That’s why shoppers are raving about this Decathlon Pressure Solar Camping Shower that gives a “proper shower in camping conditions”.

Currently up for grabs from Argos (£55), Debenhams (£57.98) or directly from Decathlon (£54.99), this piece of kit is solar-powered, so there’s no need to worry about portable power banks or being on a campsite with available outlets.

This 10-Litre Pressure-Balanced Shower lets you enjoy a private and luxurious shower wherever you pitch your tent. The ultimate solution for outdoor showering, this portable shower has been designed by camping experts to provide users with a convenient solution to hygiene when away from home.

The shower is lightweight at only 900g, making it easy to carry and store. The extra weight doesn’t slow you down. It is equipped with a transparent PU hose that promises durability, while the adjustable button on the handle prevents water wastage. Plus, the carrying strap and storage bag add to the shower’s portability.

The wide opening allows for quick filling and drying, and the innovative pumping system pressurises the water, eliminating the need to hang the shower; you can simply hold it in your hand for a faster, more effective and less wasteful wash.

This gem also features a heating time that can be accelerated by increasing sun exposure, reducing the wait to reach your preferred temperature. With a water temperature gauge, pump repair kit, and window to monitor water levels, this solar shower is a must-have for camping, hiking, trekking adventures and festivals.

Though it doesn’t currently boast any reviews at Argos or Debenhams, Decathlon shoppers have been singing its praises. With an impressive 4.6 out of 5-star rating, this shower has received plenty of accolades. One shopper says: “We really like our camping shower so easy to use, no battery, or electric pump, just fill with cold or warm water then using the pump handle just pressurise the very tough solar bag with a few pumps and away you go. We have used it in our shower cubicle at home while waiting for a part to fit our boiler.”

The same sentiments are shared by this buyer who beams: “Easy to use. Very effective. 2 showers done with a full tank. Great!”

A third chimes in: “It is ideal for those weekend getaways, or for the summer where you can cool off anywhere and on top of that with warm water, what more could you ask for from the product.”

Another writes: “After several uses, it does the job perfectly, easy to use, practical. With the 10 liters, you can take 2 quick showers after a good workout. I recommend it.”

Israel kills 23 Palestinians in Gaza, half of them while trying to get aid

Israeli forces have killed 23 Palestinians across Gaza, with at least 11 of them while they were trying to get food at aid sites operated by the United States-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), local authorities have said.

Medics at al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza on Sunday told Al Jazeera that at least three people were killed and dozens wounded by Israeli fire as they tried to approach a GHF site near the so-called Netzarim Corridor.

Two others were killed and more than 50 injured in a shooting at starving Palestinians near the GHF aid point in Rafah’s al-Mawasi area. The dead and the wounded were taken to the nearby Red Cross Hospital, according to medics.

Also, multiple Israeli air raids since dawn on Sunday killed at least 12 Palestinians in southern Gaza. Seven others were killed when an Israeli strike targeted a group of people in Beit Lahiya town in the north of the enclave, medics said.

Alarming levels of hunger have driven people to the few food distribution points in Gaza, but Israeli forces have responded with sniper fire and bombings. Dozens of Palestinians have been killed in near-daily mass shootings, with the GHF accused of weaponising aid.

On Saturday, at least 79 Palestinians were killed, many of them while seeking aid. Medics at al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals in central Gaza said at least 15 people were killed as they tried to approach the GHF aid distribution site near Netzarim Corridor.

There has been no comment from the Israeli military regarding Sunday’s attacks.

‘Execution sites’

The GHF began distributing aid in Gaza at the end of May after Israel partially lifted a three-month total blockade of food, medicines and other essential items.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, said Palestinians are starting to see GHF distribution hubs as “execution sites”, considering the repeated attacks there.

The GHF said its aid sites were closed on Saturday. But witnesses said thousands of people had gathered near the sites anyway, desperate for food as Israel’s punishing blockade and military campaign have driven the territory to the brink of famine.

Earlier this month, operations at the group’s aid distribution hubs were also temporarily halted following several incidents of deadly violence, in which Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian aid seekers.

The Gaza Ministry of Health said in a statement on Saturday that at least 274 people have so far been killed, and more than 2,000 wounded, near aid distribution sites since the GHF began operations in Gaza.

The Israeli military has admitted to shooting at aid seekers, but claimed it opened fire only when “suspects” deviated from a stipulated route to the GHF distribution site.

Hamas, which rejects Israeli charges that it steals aid, has accused Israel of “employing hunger as a weapon of war and turning aid distribution sites into traps of mass deaths of innocent civilians”.

The United Nations has also labelled the GHF aid distribution as inadequate, dangerous, and a violation of humanitarian principles.

“GHF, I think it’s fair to say, has been, from a principled humanitarian standpoint, a failure,” Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), told reporters in Geneva on Friday. “They are not doing what a humanitarian operation should do, which is providing aid to people where they are, in a safe and secure manner.”
