After battling dementia, Wincey Willis, the beloved weather presenter best known for her vibrant jumpers and effervescent charm on breakfast television, tragically passed away at the age of 76.

With the arrival of TV icon Greg Dyke in 1983, Willis became the first woman to present national weather on ITV. In a time when forecasts were dominated by more depressing presentations, the chipper 34-year-old provided a fresh, animated take on the subject.

According to the Liverpool Echo, “the majority of people don’t want to know about high pressure over the Azores.” They don’t care whether they need their umbrellas at all.

The actress was well-known for her friendly demeanor (-)

The dynamic cast that included Willis, the ever-beaming Anne Diamond, Rustie Lee, her culinary corner, and “Mad Lizzie” Webb’s fitness feature led to Good Morning Britain surpassing BBC’s Breakfast Time in viewership figures. As her presenting responsibilities expanded, Willis, a lover of animals, occasionally collaborated with the infamous rodent puppet sensation Roland Rat.

Her ground-breaking efforts helped later female weather presenters like Trish Williamson and Ulrika Jonsson, who later branched out into television.

Willis was born in Gateshead, Co Durham, in 1948, and was later adopted by Florence and Thomas Dimmock. Her eccentric moniker, “Wincey,” was inspired by her middle name, Incy Wincy Spider, which students at her Hartlepool primary school sang.

Willis left school when she was 16 years old, traveling to France to earn her baccalauréat before enrolling at Strasbourg University. In 1975, she made a second career in the northeast, landing a behind-the-scenes job at Radio Tees in Stockton-on-Tees.

She accepted a position as weather presenter for Tyne Tees regional TV, and she soon found herself working in television, producing her own series, Wincey’s Pets.

She appeared on the game show Treasure Hunt alongside Anneka Rice at the height of her career in the middle of the 1980s. In 1987, Willis’ contract dispute caused her to resign from TV-am, which brought her television career to a halt.

She spent her time helping endangered species around the world as a conservation volunteer in the years that followed. Additionally, Wincey co-hosted radio programs for BBC Hereford &amp, Worcester and BBC Coventry &amp, Warwickshire.

In 1972, she wed Malcolm Willis, and they divorced. Willis has recently battled dementia.

This week, her passing on December 18th, 2012, was made public.

Israel-Iran conflict: List of key events, June 18, 2025

What is the current situation for Monday, June 18:

Fighting

The Israeli army continued to attack Iran’s capital Tehran, where explosions were reported throughout the day in the central province of Isfahan and close to Kahraj, while also launching attacks against the capital there.

  • Israel claimed to have struck 40 Iranian sites, including weapons installations. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the strikes targeted two centrifuge production facilities: one in Tehran and one in Kahraj.
  • Israel’s military confirmed that one of its unmanned aircraft was downed in Iranian territory, while confirming that another claimed to be “operating freely” in Iranian skies. An Israeli drone and fighter jet were shot down by Iranian forces, according to Iranian state media.
  • Israel reported that a second Iranian drone was intercepted in the southern of the country after it entered Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which was also intercepted.
  • Iran also launched a string of missile attacks against Israel. Long-range Sejjil missiles were used in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (12th wave of attacks on Israel), according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
  • Iranian missiles and drones are permitted in the skies above “occupied lands,” according to the IRGC, who added that the attacks will be “focused and continuous.”
  • In the greater Tel Aviv region and the city’s east, explosions were reported. In that evening salvo, Israel claimed to have intercepted eight missiles.

Accidents and turbulence

  • Six people, including a pregnant woman and two children, were killed in an Israeli-isfahani accident in Najafabad, according to local media reports.
  • On Wednesday, Israel did not report any fatalities.
  • Iran’s Ministry of Communications announced a temporary suspension of internet access to stop “the enemy from threatening citizens’ lives and property.”
  • There was a “near-total national internet blackout,” according to the London-based internet watchdog NetBlocks.
  • Iranian domestic and international flight cancellations have been extended until early on Thursday, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
  • Israeli laws that severely restricted activity were eased. Up until Friday evening, only small gatherings and work can now be conducted in locations where people can quickly access a “standard protected place” (SCP) and close to it.

Diplomacy

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that any US military intervention in the conflict would have “irreparable consequences” and delivered his first televised address since Friday when Israel began its attacks.

  • Any US intervention, according to Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “could lead to an all-out war in the region,” according to Esmaeil Baghaei in an interview with Al Jazeera.
  • When asked if the US was considering striking Iran, US President Donald Trump said, “I may do it. I’m not going to do it.
  • Trump also asserted that Iranian officials had contacted him and suggested he go to the White House. Iran has refuted this claim, saying that his cowardly threat to “take out” Iran’s Supreme Leader is the only thing that can be said to be more abhorrent than his lies.
  • Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, thanked Trump for his “support for the defense of Israel’s skies,” describing him as a “great friend of the state of Israel.
  • Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, reiterated that his nation was willing to assist in the crisis’ resolution.
  • Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, claimed that his country wants a diplomatic solution and that Ankara could play a constructive role, but that Israel has launched “crazed” attacks against Iran, which constitute “state terrorism.”
  • Following President Emmanuel Macron’s chairing of a defense and national security council meeting, France plans to work with European partners to propose a negotiated resolution to end the conflict between Iran and Israel.
  • According to a spokesperson for France’s foreign ministry, Macron has indicated that changing the military structure in Iran is a strategic move.
  • Iran’s delegation to the UN requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, claiming that mounting and unsubstantial evidence points to direct US involvement.
  • Antonio Guterres, the UN’s chief, stated that he is still “profoundly alarmed” and that he has called for “immediate de-escalation leading to a ceasefire.”
  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz defended his remarks, which some thought were outraged, calling Israel’s attacks on Iran “dirty work Israel is doing for all of us.”
  • Iran has consistently denied wanting one, and IAEA’s Rafael Grossi, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog, stated that there is no proof that Iran is planning one.
  • Friday will be the UN Security Council’s first meeting of the day. Iran called for the meeting, claiming that mounting and unconfirmable evidence of direct US involvement in this illegal campaign has dangerously escalated.

After almost three decades of marriage, the couple split, with Ruth being the stepmother to Louise, Alex, and Fiona, Louise’s three children.

They first met when they both started dating at BBC Wales’ radio division, where they soon started falling in love once they started speaking.

She previously admitted to talking to him on the phone before meeting him in a joke about how she met him in an interview with The Scotsman.

Ruth told The Independent in 2008 that her husband, who has since moved on with a new partner, “has a very sharp mind combined with a dry Yorkshire wit, making him a naturally funny man.”

They made eye contact while filming the first episode of a BBC comedy in the early 1990s. Although David and his wife were married at the time, Ruth later admitted that there was a relationship between David’s divorce and the start of their relationship.

One doesn’t want to do things because affairs cause a lot of pain, she said. You don’t want to end people’s lives by making them suffer.

They established Tidy Productions, a production company that produced the popular sitcom Gavin & Stacey, after their lengthy marriage, and moved to Cardiff.

Ruth once discussed her happiness as a stepmother to David’s children, despite being primarily private about her marriage.

Ruth remarked to the Daily Mail, “It just didn’t happen.” Not a choice, either. I have no burning desire to have children. If you do, and you discover that you are unable to have them, I find it heartbreaking. I enjoy being a stepmom because I get to experience all the joys of motherhood without the discomfort of childbirth.

And she expressed her adoration for her stepmoon in The Scotsman about the “joys of parenthood without giving birth.” You take things as they come, she gushed.

Unfortunately, the couple ended their relationship after more than 20 years of dating. This week, they said in a statement that they “maintenance good friends.”

Oyo Approves ₦63.4bn To Overhaul Government House Structures

The Government House’s complete reconstruction project, which is being funded by the Oyo State Executive Council, is costing “an embarrassment and unbefitting” in the sum of $ 63.4 billion.

Dotun Oyelade, the commissioner for information, made the disclosure in a statement released on Tuesday, noting that the project is a part of Oyo State’s preparations for its 50th anniversary celebrations scheduled for the following year.

“The Governor and his deputy have resided in their private residences for the past six years because of how awfully squat their official quarters have been. According to Oyelade, the reconstruction will leave a respectable legacy for the Seyi Makinde administration.

The banquet hall’s completion, in his opinion, is expected before the celebration’s golden jubilee, as the project’s completion signals a revival of the state’s image and infrastructure.

Additionally, the Council approved a $11.3 million grant for the hiring of professional gardeners to maintain the Government House’s green spaces and surroundings.

With the purchase and installation of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) worth $14.9 billion, the state is moving to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standards. Particularly in bad weather, the system will aid in smooth landings of aircraft.

The Federal Government had previously purchased ILS equipment, but it was damaged. Within six months, the state government will start installing a new one, Oyelade explained.

The runway, apron, taxiway, and blast pads are all under construction, and the airport was shut down in March 2025 after being flagged off in September 2024.

Oyelade noted that federal aviation agencies are approving these projects by the end of the year, while the international terminal is slated to be finished by June 2026.

The Council also approved the first installment payment for the service agreement on the Ijaiye International Agro-Food Market in an effort to encourage economic growth.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) gave the $ 2 million project a certificate of no objection from the Semmaris, which was being carried out in partnership with the Paris-based Semmaris.

The Council also approved a 130 million take-off grant for the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority, which was established to ease structural congested urban areas and stop the development of slums.

The governor of Benue said, “I firmly support the establishment of state police as a viable solution to the persistent insecurity in our state and perhaps elsewhere.”

I believe the federal government can address these issues by creating precise state-specific guidelines and regulatory frameworks to prevent any potential misuse, despite the concerns I have regarding its implementation.
