Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (Rtd) was given the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Bola Tinubu in recognition of his contribution to the June 12 movement’s struggle for democracy.

The President made the announcement on Wednesday when Kaduna State’s 300-bed hospital and vocational training facility were being put on the go-ahead.

Colonel Umar, a man dubbed the “soldier of democracy,” was not included in the list of June 12 honorees that were announced on Democracy Day.

President Tinubu publicly apologised for the oversight and described him as a “man who stood up for justice and democratic ideals when it mattered most.”

“Let me take advantage of this opportunity to make a correction for a mistake today.” Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar is one of the people I missed watching the National Assembly broadcast on June 12. Let me correct that by honoring the CFR with a national recognition, the President said during his commissioning speech.

Former military governor of Kaduna State Umar is renowned for his unwavering support for democratic governance in Nigeria and for his brave stance against the reversal of the 1993 presidential election.

June 12 Honors

On June 12, 2025, Tinubu addresses a joint session of the National Assembly.

President Tinubu gave several well-known Nigerians and democracy icons national honors earlier on June 12 during his address to a joint session of the National Assembly to mark the country’s 26th Democracy Day.

Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka (GCON), Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah (CON), Femi Falana (CON), human rights lawyer Femi Abiola (CON), and the late Kudirat Abiola, who was honored with a posthumous CFR award for her contribution to the June 12 conflict, were just a few people.

Sam Amuka-Pemu, members of the now-defunct Ogoni Nine led by Ken Saro-Wiwa, and former NEC Chairman Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, whose posthumous award came after a previously rejected Senate motion to immortalize him.

Meanwhile, the Presidency has since debunked a list that is currently available and features unauthorised people, including activist Aisha Yesufu, who calls it “fake news.”

Ed recently opened up on the drawbacks of fame(Image: Getty Images for Coachella)

Although Ed’s fame has had its benefits, he recently opened up about one aspect of family life.

Ed explained in a recent interview on Louis Theroux’s podcast how having to deal with some of his more ordinary family chores has resulted in his struggle to perform his best-known roles.

He declared to the documentary’s creator, “My children’s image is very, very private. And for me, I can’t take them anywhere without someone trying to film them, like a zoo or park.

And I don’t want a stranger’s phone or other device to display my children’s image.

He acknowledged that he mourns not being able to enjoy the simple pleasure of spending time with his kids in public and that it would be strange because he had made this decision to protect his children.

Ed and Cherry Seaborn first got married while attending a Suffolk school, but they didn’t know each other until years later when they reconciled.

They soon began dating before eventually agreeing to marry in 2019 after a mutual friend’s rekindled friendship in 2015.

While Ed’s fame has had it’s benefits, he recently opened up about the one thing he mourns about family life.

In a recent appearance on Louis Theroux’s podcast, Ed shared how the attention due to his fame has meant that he has struggled to do some of the most ordinary family activities.

He told the documentary maker: “I’m very, very private about my children’s image. And for me, I can’t take them to zoos or parks or anything really without someone trying to film them.

“And I don’t want my kids’ image out there on a stranger’s phone or device.”

Adding that he made this decision to protect his children, he admitted that he “mourns” not being able to enjoy the simple luxury of spending time in public with them: “Those are the times — the normal parts of life — that I kind of mourn for, and sort of wish I could push my kid on a swing in a public park and it not be weird.”

Ed first met his wife, Cherry Seaborn, when they were at school in Suffolk but it wasn’t until years later after getting back in touch that they got together.

After their friendship was rekindled in 2015 thanks to a mutual friend, they soon started dating before eventually going on to tie the knot in 2019.

Love Island’s Ekin-Su reveals new life outlook after split and ‘losing’ herself

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article35422121.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_NHP_MDG_190625Ekin-su_Culculoglu_3795_.jpg

The reality tv star claims her charity cancer trek was “eye opening” and gave her a glimpse of who she really was.

Ekin-Su opens up about her own ‘eye opening’ experience, which brought her to tears.

Love Island favourite Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu says she looks at the world differently now after a “humbling” experience meeting women affected by cancer. The reality star joined actress Giovanna Fletcher and more than 100 women on the five-day trip to the Isle of Skye for the CoppaFeel! Trek this week, battling minus six temperatures, strong winds and torrential downpours.

“I didn’t realise it was gonna be so hard,” admits two-time Love Islander Ekin. “When you get to know all the women and their backgrounds and how they’re still here and giving everything to life, the things that people complain about back home don’t matter. There’s people who have got cancer. Every day they have to live with it, and every day feels like it could be their last day. It’s been a massive eye opener for me.”

On their journey through Scotland, Ekin-Su and Giovanna braved the elements.

Raising awareness of breast cancer, they also helped raise £418,888, almost hitting their £450,000 target. Ekin, 30, says hearing the stories of cancer has made her want to get her breasts checked for the first time.

Nothing is more precious than life, she said, “Someone told me, I might have a few years,” and that’s what I’m removing from this trip. “I’m going to have my breasts checked for sure,” she says. All I’m thinking about is that, and I have never felt my breasts. And for peace of mind, I want to go to the closest GP when I’m home and have my breasts checked. Tell my mother, friends, and any other younger people you want to. It’s crucial to catch it early.

Ekin described a powerful situation in which no women stood topless on a mountain. She recalls that we had a photo of the entire group of women in tops. “Everyone is showing their breasts,” They are the justification for our presence. Simply put, it seemed so natural. When the women and I exchanged our tops, I felt more connected and embraced everything. On top of a mountain, we have some of the most beautiful scenery. Thankfully, no one noticed us and no men were passing by.

Waking at 6am and trekking almost 10 hours a day, Ekin was totally out of her comfort zone, having never camped before. “My friends were shocked,” she chuckled. The trek was a far cry from Ekin’s glamorous Love Island days. “I haven’t washed my hair since I got here,” laughed Ekin. “I’ve showered, don’t worry! You don’t think about those sort of things when you’re here. You just think about living in the moment.”

The whole group on their trek
Ekin-Su described the experiences of the other women on the trip as tears-sucking.

She claims it was a welcome reality check from the celebrity world and that she enjoyed spending time with “wholesome, genuine, lovely, and strong” people. Ekin remarked, “It’s been very humbling.”

Known for her stints on Love Island, The Traitors US and Celebrity Big Brother, Ekin said it was nice to show her fellow trekkers the real her. “I did say to them my industry is very lonely and it is a very ego high industry where you can lose yourself,” told Ekin, who finished third in this year’s Love Island All Stars with dancer Curtis Pritchard – but the pair split announced their split last month. “You can’t always show who you really are. And moments like this make you very vulnerable and it shows your emotions, which is the real you. So that was nice for the ladies to see.”

She was joined by Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown, and journalist Bryony Gordon alongside actress, author and CoppaFeel! patron Giovanna Fletcher, who led the group for UK’s only youth focused breast cancer charity, CoppaFeel!.

Briony and Giovanna get to grips with the equipment
As Ekin-Su admits it was her first camping experience, Briony and Giovanna get used to the equipment.

Giovanna said the participation of one woman exemplified the importance of their campaign. “She heard about CoppaFeel! from Instagram because of the treks,” she began. “From that, she knew about signs and symptoms and six months later she found her own lump in which the doctor misdiagnosed. She has only just finished her treatment and is now trekking with us. I always say one of the reasons that we do these treks is so that people that are diagnosed can be diagnosed early and then walk with us in years to come.”

How Attempt By International Cartel To Steal Benin Artefacts Failed — Oba Ewuare

Oba Ewuare II, the monarchy of Benin, revealed that a global cartel made a desperate attempt to re-loot the priceless items from the country as the kingdom applauded the return of 119 bronzes from the Netherlands.

The monarch described the incident as a historic cultural and diplomatic victory, which was made possible by the Benin Royal Court’s constant advocacy and the Nigerian Government’s formal engagement, during a ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Benin City, Edo State.

“We had international cartel-backed organizations in this country who conspired to re-loot our artifacts.” They attempted to retake these treasures, but they were unsuccessful. Our ancestors kept them safe, Oba Ewuare said.

Key figures at the event, which took place on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, included Marieke van Bommel, the director-general of the Netherlands’ Wereld Museum, and the director-general of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Olugbile Holloway.

The returned bronzes, which were originally looted in 1897 as a result of the British invasion of Benin, have been housed in Dutch collections for more than a century.

Their return was a result of a transfer agreement between the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, which was led by Minister Eppo Bruins.

Oyo Approves $ 63.4 billion to replace government building structures

Oba Ewuare commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Edo State and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making sure the artifacts were returned via fair and transparent means.

Additionally, he vehemently warned against political ambitions that threaten the kingdom’s cultural merit.

“We must not allow partisan politics to undermine our heritage.” Governor Monday Okpebholo, who is well-represented by Musa Ikhilor, the state government’s secretary, and for joining us for this historic celebration, he said.

The monarch praised Holloway for his moral character throughout the repatriation process, striking a direct contrast to his predecessor, who he claimed attempted to facilite the unsuccessful re-looting.

We engaged in a fierce combat to stop those who wanted to re-loot. He said to my Chiefs right here that he prefers the artefacts to be kept abroad rather than being re-looted while I ascend the throne.

Our ancestors rose and protected the Benin Kingdom, he continued, adding that there was once a government that sought to destabilize it.

Ikhilor, who spoke on behalf of the state government, described the return as “a historic triumph, 128 years in the making,” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving the artefacts and providing the palace with the necessary infrastructure.

“The state feels pride in this,” the governor said. We are dedicated to constructing a dignified museum that not only preserves these treasures but also draws visitors to Benin, the birthplace of the African Bronze Age, “,” he said.

Van Bommel reiterated the Netherlands’ commitment to cultural restitution, saying that “we have returned these items in accordance with our cultural restitution policy. They should return to Benin City, where they were born.

The Dutch museum was responsible for the full cost of the artefacts’ return, according to NCMM Director-General Holloway in his remarks, calling the occasion “symbolic and historic.”

Messi Fit To Face Porto, Says Inter Miami’s Mascherano

Lionel Messi will face Porto at the Club World Cup on Thursday, according to Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano, despite showing signs of discomfort during training.

Messi touched his left leg during a video during the Wednesday training session, but Mascherano confirmed the veteran forward was prepared for Miami’s second Group A game in Atlanta.

Leo trained, finished the entire session, according to Mascherano, who traveled from Miami to Atlanta after I noticed some things that came out.

He touched his leg, and there are some who touch themselves, but he is healthy and will probably play tomorrow. ”

After missing the opener 0-0 draw against Al Ahly due to injury, the coach claimed Messi’s former Barcelona team-mate Jordi Alba was available.

If he starts, we will decide whether or not to do so, the coach said. I already know, but I won’t tell you, in fact. ”

Meanwhile, Masscherano asserted that the key to keeping possession would be Porto, a regular Champions League team that will likely put the MLS team in a harsh test against Portugal.

The Argentine said, “We have players who feel much more at ease when they are in possession, dominating, and having control of the game through the ball.”

We are, of course, facing a team with experience doing that, who are on a high level side.

But since we are 11 against 11, we will try to exploit their strengths, highlight their weaknesses, and play a great game to get a positive outcome. ”

Sergio Busquets, a member of Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning side and a former Barcelona team-mate, said his team would face off at the Mercedes-Benz stadium.

According to Busquets, “They have very good players, they have reinforced, and we know that it will be very challenging.”

They host other excellent teams like Sporting and Benfica every year in a league match.

We will work together as a team to be as strong as possible, maintain a close relationship, and do our best.

We have the people (who can finish them), but we must also be strong and keep a clean sheet, according to the statement. ”
