Whittaker wins by TKO then yells at Cameron’s team

Ben Whittaker steered his career back on track with a second-round stoppage of Liam Cameron to win their light-heavyweight rematch in Birmingham.

The 27-year-old whipped in a flush right to hurt Cameron and then loaded up with several unanswered punches before the fight was, perhaps a little prematurely, called off.

An emotional Whittaker, 27, then ran over to the opposite corner at the BP Pulse Live arena and began shouting at Cameron’s team.

TV replays showed some spit land in the direction of trainer Grant Smith, although it appeared to be unintentional.

“My emotions came out, I was roaring like a lion,” Whittaker said when asked about the incident on Sky Sports.

“If a little bit of dribble came out, then a little bit of dribble came out. “

Showboating Whittaker bounces back from draw

Whittaker, from nearby Wolverhampton, made a spectacular entrance as he danced in front of pyrotechnics while accompanied by a choir, but was met with jeers.

The 2020 Olympic silver medallist looked a little surprised at the crowd’s reaction.

Most observers had Cameron, 34, winning the first fight in Saudi Arabia but it was Whittaker who made the sharp start, with crisp and accurate punching.

England striker Marcus Rashford and UFC star Leon Edwards watched on as Whittaker – with his nickname ‘The Surgeon’ etched on his shorts – landed cleanly midway through the first round.

He put it on Cameron and another right connected as the Sheffield fighter’s legs dipped and he was held up by the bottom rope.

Referee Howard Foster saw enough and jumped in. There were no real protests from Cameron.

After his verbal attack on Smith, Whittaker cupped his hands as more boos echoed around the arena, though he did share an embrace with Cameron and his team a little later.

Whittaker’s stock dropped after his draw in Saudi Arabia. He left that fight in a wheelchair and was accused of quitting by some fans.

But he bounced back in style in his first fight under respected trainer Andy Lee, who defended his boxer’s outpouring of emotion.

“No one can understand what this man has gone through over the last six months,” Lee said.

Heavyweight Clarke makes short work of Tetteh

British heavyweight Frazer Clarke returned to winning ways on the undercard with a statement first-round stoppage victory over Ebenezer Tetteh.

The 33-year-old connected with a heavy right. Tetteh rose to his feet on unsteady legs before the fight was waved off after a barrage of punches.

Ghanaian Tetteh disputed referee Kevin Parker’s decision. He placed his hands on the official and pulled him towards him, and had to be calmed down by his team.

Clarke had surgery on his jaw and cheekbone following a devastating loss to Fabio Wardley in October.

“I’ve been crying out for that kind of performance since my debut,” 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Clarke said.

[VIDEO] Insecurity: ‘Not Way To Go,’ Expert Faults Calls For Self-Defense

https://www.youtube.com/embed/q87isgHAvZ8

Despite the rising rate of insecurity across the country, with abductions, killings, and other crimes making headlines, an analyst on conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa, Bulama Burkati, has faulted calls for self-defense.

A former Minister of Defence,   Lt. Gen.   Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), had re-echoed his call for self-defense in the wake of the assaults on Benue and Plateau states, where over 150 persons were killed, many wounded, and several persons displaced.

But, Bukarti, a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said self-defense is the wrong approach to silencing the stormy wave of insecurity.

“It is overwhelming, but to be honest, despite these, self-defense is the wrong thing to start; it is the wrong call,”  he said on the show.

According to him, with the proliferation of arms and light weapons, calling for self-defense will only aggravate the situation.

“Now, if you have calls for self-defense, what that means is that there will be more arms in the hands of ordinary Nigerians. More people will buy weapons, they will buy arms, and more people will start to kill people without justice,” Burkati argued.

Saudi ‘horrible’ & 2025 looking ‘painful’ – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton described his Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as “horrible” and said he had no explanation for his lack of pace in the Ferrari.

The seven-time champion finished seventh and was 31 seconds behind team-mate Charles Leclerc, who scored Ferrari’s first grand prix podium of the season with third place.

“Nothing positive to take from today,” Hamilton said, “apart from Charles on the podium, which is great for the team.

“It was horrible, not enjoyable at all. I was just sliding around. It’s pretty bad. “

He is seventh in the drivers’ championship with his best result in a full grand prix this season his fifth place in Bahrain a week ago.

Hamilton said that he was “struggling to feel the car beneath me” but that there was “no particular thing, nothing to say: ‘Hey, this is the issue. ‘”

And asked why he had been so good in the sprint race in China last month, where he won from pole position, and had struggled elsewhere, he said: “I don’t have an answer. “

Briton Hamilton, 40, said he expected to struggle at the next race in Miami, too, adding: “I don’t know how much longer I’ll struggle for but it’s definitely painful. Just going to try and improve from week to week. “

“At the moment there is no fix so this is how it’s going to be for the rest or the year. It’s going to be painful.

Leclerc, by contrast, drove an outstanding race with a long first stint on the medium tyres to catch and pass Mercedes’ George Russell for the final podium place.

He said: “I feel like we’ve maximised absolutely everything we could have this weekend. There wasn’t anything more in the car.

“We need to focus on qualifying because it’s been a very long time I haven’t been as happy with the car balance.

“I feel very at ease with the car in a way that I know I can extract the maximum out of the car more often than not, but unfortunately, the car potential is just not good enough to fight for better in qualifying. “

Ferrari just missed out on winning the constructors’ championship last year and started this season hoping to compete for the title.

But McLaren and Red Bull have progressed more than the Italian team over the winter.

Leclerc said: “We are close on the race pace. Free air dictates a little bit who is going to win the race. That’s always been the case. Maybe this year a little bit more than other years. And obviously when that is the case, qualifying is more important.

“But unfortunately, for two years, we are just struggling in qualifying to put everything together.

“The problem is it’s not always the same issue. This time it was four tenths in the first three corners. For the rest of the lap, we were fast. And now today in the race, actually, the first sector was probably the best sector we had.

“So we’ve got to look at that. Obviously, there are answers in what we are doing, and we are doing something wrong, clearly. We’ve got to find it.

“We cannot lose too many races before finding it because we’re already 50 points down in the drivers’ championship.

Four Workers Die In Bauchi Water Treatment Facility

Four workers have died during a routine maintenance operation at the Gubi Dam Water Treatment Plant in Bauchi.

The tragic accident happened around 5 pm on Saturday when they were carrying out a sludge cleaning exercise in the plant’s tunnel.

In a statement, the Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, explained that: “The sludge cleaning operation commenced around 12:00 hours. During the procedure, the staff members entered the clarifier to dislodge pit pipes but were tragically overcome and subsequently retrieved unconscious. Despite immediate medical interventions, they were pronounced dead at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi. ”

The deceased have been identified as Shayibu Hamza, 48; Abdulmalik Yahya, 29; Jamilu Inusa, 29; and Ibrahim Musa, 42 – all residents of Firo village, a community near the treatment plant in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Among the victims were a father and his son, and family members say the son was due to be married in just two weeks.

According to the Bauchi Police Command spokesman, an investigation is now underway to determine the precise circumstances that led to the accident, and the management of the facility is said to be cooperating fully with authorities.

However, the police are calling for enhanced safety measures in the plant, underlining the urgent need for reinforced workplace safety practices and strict adherence to established protocols.

“This incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in the water treatment sector. It underscores the responsibility of both employers and employees to emphasize and adhere to established safety protocols to mitigate future risks,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and colleagues, offering support during what he called a challenging time.

Real Madrid keep LaLiga defence alive with late goal against Athletic Club

Federico Valverde’s superb 93rd-minute strike kept Real Madrid on Barcelona’s tail in Spanish football’s title race, earning the champions a 1-0 win over Athletic Club.

Madrid stayed four points behind Barca after Valverde smashed into the top corner on Sunday with a sliced, swerving effort.

After Champions League elimination by Arsenal, it looked like Madrid were set for another devastating result until the Uruguay international’s stoppage-time intervention.

Athletic, who are based in Bilbao and reached the Europa League semifinals on Thursday by beating Rangers, rotated heavily.

Despite that, the Basque side proved a hard nut for Madrid to crack, especially with their top goalscorer Kylian Mbappe both suspended and recovering from an ankle problem.

The forward was whistled by some fans for his failure to help the team overcome Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals in midweek when he was shown watching the game on the stadium screens.

Vinicius, who was previously criticised by coach Carlo Ancelotti for a lack of defensive work ethic, was running hard on the left, which fans at the Santiago Bernabeu appreciated.

The Brazilian has struggled for form at times this season, but was Madrid’s brightest player against Athletic, giving Unai Nunez a difficult night.

Madrid played with intensity after their European elimination, trying to keep La Liga in their sights after Barcelona made a late comeback to beat Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Rodrygo Goes came close early in the second half before Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon saved from Eduardo Camavinga.

The hosts began to push Athletic deeper and started to create better chances.

Vinicius bent a delicious cross with the outside of his boot into the six-yard box for Jude Bellingham to meet, but Simon made an excellent save to tip over his header.

Federico Valverde fired narrowly wide of the near post, and Vinicius did find the net, but Endrick was offside in the build-up.

Bellingham appealed for a penalty after going down softly in the area, and then fired over from close range in the final stages.

It was the kind of chance the England international managed to turn into late match-winning goals last season as he inspired Madrid to La Liga and Champions League glory.

Instead, it was Valverde who took up that role with a sublime blast that left Simon with no chance.

Love Island: All Star couple Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Curtis Pritchard have fuelled fears that their relationship is over as they appeared to spend the Easter weekend apart

Love Island fans fear All Star couple Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Curtis Pritchard may have split after they appeared to spend Easter apart. The reality star couple fell for each other on the spin-off all star version of the show at the beginning of the year – although they did not win the series, as Casey O’Gorman and Gabby Allen reigned supreme.

Fans, however, remained hopeful that 30-year-old Ekin-Su, who first found fame on Love Island in 2022 on season eight of the show, and Curtis, 29, who found fame on season five in 2019, would go the distance. The pair have been sharing social media content in the weeks since the second season of Love Island: All Stars concluded in the middle of February.

But anxious fans noticed that the pair did not seem to spend the Easter weekend together – sparking fears of a split. On Instagram Stories on Sunday, Ekin-Su showed off her hair and proudly boasted that it is all her own, real hair and she has no extensions.

She then shared a sultry photo of herself declaring that she was heading “back to London” after spending some time out of the capital. Meanwhile, Curtis shared a post on his main grid showing him working out in a gym – with Ekin-Su nowhere to be seen.

The pair usually mark events together by posing for photos, leaving some fans worried that they may have broken up as they did not share loved-up Easter themed content. But other fans were relived, however, to notice that Ekin-Su had commented on Curtis’s exercise video.

She had left a message in the comments, writing: “Discipline and hard work! Proud” – and added a clapping hand emoji and a red heart emoji. Ekin-Su and Curtis have been battling claims of a split in recent days.

Ekin-Su herself sparked concerns when she took to her TikTok page to share a video lip-syncing to a Pussycat Dolls song as she got ready in her bathroom. But the song in question was Beep released by the chart-mauling girl group back in 2005. The clip instantly sparked concern from fans.

In the clip, Ekin can be seen lip-syncing to the lyrics: “I keep turning them down, but they always come around, asking me to go around, that’s not the way it’s going down, ’cause they only want, only want my ah-ha-ha, only want, what they want but, na-ah-ah, na-ah-ah. “

Her video, which attracted over 9,000 likes, was soon flooded with comments from fans questioning her relationship status. One fan penned: “Where is Curtis? ” A second typed: “Why can’t people see Ekin and Curtis not together they have broken up. “

Meanwhile a third added: “She not going to answer about Curtis cause they not together. ” However, Ekin furiously hit back replying: “Jade you would be a great journalist. But sorry to disappoint you but we are together. “

Another supported Ekin, writing: “God forbid she makes a couple TikToks on her own the world thinks she’s broke up with Curtis.”

Meanwhile one added that Ekin and Curtis had posted on another social media platform that they were enjoying a romantic date at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

Her cryptic upload came after Ekin appeared to take aim at her ex-boyfriend, Married At First Sight UK star Georges Berthonneau – implying that he was “obsessed” with her. 31-year-old Georges claimed that Ekin had left him heartbroken after she “cheated on him” during her appearance on Love Island All Stars, where she met professional dancer Curtis.

Ekin and Georges were first linked together in November last year but kept their relationships underwraps and according to him, they even had an agreement in place for when she returned to the ITV dating programme. In an interview, he said he and Ekin agreed to her returning to the show in order to “boost” her career.

According to Georges, he and Ekin-Su were together for 10 months before she shared steamy moments with Curtis on Love Island, with the agreement being that she couldn’t go further than “kissing” anyone. “It was a super, super intense and intimate relationship…

“We had a lot of intimacy, we were very close, and physically and emotionally we showed each other such love, but she threw everything we had away for her TV romance with Curtis Pritchard,” he told the Daily Mail, adding that they spent holidays together and met each other’s family members.
