Ireland back row Aoife Wafer says Sunday’s 40-14 win in Wales in the Six Nations is “huge” but there are still things to improve.
Wafer was named player of the match as she scored two of Ireland’s six tries in Newport.
Forwards Linda Djougang and Dorothy Wall also touched down twice as Ireland ran out comfortable winners.
“It’s huge. We can take a lot out of that but we can also build on it,” Wafer told BBC Sport after the game.
“We gave Wales some really easy ins at the breakdown in the first half and that put us defending when we wanted to attack. So there’s a lot to build on. “
Ireland need just one point from their final fixture in Scotland to secure third place in the Six Nations table for the second year in a row.
While still a level below England, who ran out big winners in Cork in round three, Ireland have shown improvement against France in their opening and followed that up with a first away win in the tournament in four years when Scott Bemand’s side defeated Italy in Parma.
The victory over Wales was another step in the right direction, and Ireland will look to finish on a high away to Scotland, who are fourth in the table, as their World Cup preparations continue.
“Winning away is tough, so to do it in Parma and Wales, we can take a lot from it,” added Wafer.

Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams have never shied away from sharing the ups and downs of their marriage. From the Made in Chelsea star’s drinking problem that nearly derailed their wedding day to intimate details about their bedroom life, no topic seems off-limits.
Having met in 2017 on The Jump, the couple quickly knew they were meant for each other, tying the knot just a year later. Vogue’s marriage to Brian McFadden had just ended when Spencer asked her out, only to be initially turned down, but she eventually gave in.
The TV star, 36, had once opened up about how he knew the Irish presenter, 39, was the “one.” Back in 2018, he popped the question to the star and shared with fans how much he admires his other half, and how their relationship grew over time.
Spencer gushed: “I have a huge amount of respect for her. We started off as mates, and knew we’d be friends after The Jump. ” He continued to tell Heat Magazine at the time: “The falling in love thing came later. But she is my best friend. In the evenings, I look forward to seeing her more than anything else. We live together and I respect what she does, how she is, how she does everything, and I’d like to think she respects me. ”

“I’ve known she was the one for a while now, and we’re very happily engaged. ” While the proposal went smoothly up until that point, Spencer later opened up about how his “selfish” drinking habits nearly ruined his and his wife’s big day.
In an interview with The Sunday Times back in December 2021, Matthews revealed that he almost left Vogue at the altar after getting carried away on a booze-fuelled morning adventure with James Middleton, Kate Middleton’s younger brother, the day of their wedding.
“I was still drinking when we got married in 2018 up in Glen Affric in Scotland, so there was plenty of champagne and whisky at the wedding,” Spencer, who is now sober, said. I took a paddleboard out on the loch in the morning with James Middleton. We mistimed it and only got in 15 minutes before the service.”

Spencer went on to open up about the changes he’s had to make in his life, especially since becoming a dad, saying: “I try my best to put the kids first.” Four years into their marriage, cracks started to show behind closed doors, with the couple clashing over their sex life. Vogue has openly admitted to fearing boredom in the bedroom – a fear she says could put real strain on their relationship.
“I’m married but I don’t want to ever get bored in the bedroom, and there’s loads of stuff to explore that we just don’t know about,” she said during her show with Joanne McNally, Joanne & Vogue’s Sex Drive.
“I won’t be married forever, we all know I enjoy a wedding,” she said. Meanwhile, a 2024 interview with The Times, Matthews admitted that his wife would rather keep their sex life out of the spotlight. To add to the pressure, the couple quietly reduced the price of their £4.7 million London home, as they prepare to move into a bigger home together. A close source told the Daily Mail: “There’s a lot going on with Vogue and Spencer at the moment. It’s a stressful situation for them.”

More recently, the couple failed to mark their wedding anniversary on social media, yet speculation around their relationship has heightened as they have admitted to having “tiffs” with each other. It comes following a confession Vogue made where she opened up about feeling that she’s the one pulling more weight at home.
She said: “In the nicest way possible, I would say I fix the broken radiator and I do the school run. I would say I do 80 per cent of what (goes on). We’ve actually been having a slight little tiff about that this morning, about the stuff that I do”. Cracking up, Vogue added: “I’ve had enough today”.
While Vogue had previously been in a relationship with Westlife’s Brian McFadden for three years before they split in 2017, Spencer had been romantically linked to his Made in Chelsea co-stars Louise Thompson, Stephanie Pratt, and Lauren Frazer-Hutton.
The reality show star previously revealed how he regretted screaming at Louise during their heated breakup that aired on TV, as he blamed his heavy drinking for the nature of their toxic relationship. Appearing on Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast he explained: “I had broken up with Louise the night before and I told her that scene was about that and she came in steaming hot, screaming at me, breaking up with me instead and I thought, “oh this isn’t real anymore” so you have these crazy reactions. “

Liverpool have moved one win away from sealing England’s Premier League title as substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold secured a 1-0 victory at Leicester City, which condemned their hosts to relegation.
Leicester, needing to beat the leaders to stave off relegation for a few more days, were holding their own on Sunday. But Alexander-Arnold fired home in the 76th minute after the ball came to him following a goalmouth scramble.
Liverpool could be crowned champions on Wednesday should Arsenal lose at home to Crystal Palace.
If the Gunners avoid defeat, Arne Slot’s men have the chance to seal the deal when Tottenham visit Anfield next Sunday.
Leicester have not scored a single goal at home since December as nine consecutive defeats at the King Power have taken Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men down.
A Liverpool cruise seemed in store when Mohamed Salah hit both posts with a glorious chance inside the first two minutes.
But after storming clear of the chasing pack in Slot’s early months in charge to build a near-unassailable lead, Liverpool have slowed in recent weeks as the finish line approaches.
Wilfred Ndidi came close to ending Leicester’s barren run with a low strike that came back off the post.

Leicester, meanwhile, have had a season to forget. Champions of England just nine years ago, the Foxes have found life back in the top flight far too much of a step up in class after romping to the Championship title last season.
Defender Coady told Sky Sports that the players were “devastated” by the relegation.
“If we look at today, I thought we played and we nullified Liverpool quite well, they’re a world-class side,” he said.
“But if we look back at the season, it hasn’t been anywhere near good enough from a club point of view. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror. ”
Leicester join Southampton, whose relegation was confirmed with a record seven games to go, in an immediate return to the second tier.
Ipswich, who are 15 points adrift with five games to go, are set to follow as for the second consecutive season all three promoted sides will fail to avoid the drop.
Earlier on Sunday, Arsenal cantered to a 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town, with Leandro Trossard scoring twice and the hosts’ Leif Davis sent off for a dangerous tackle on Bukayo Saka.
Meanwhile, Manchester United slumped to a 15th Premier League loss of the season as Wolverhampton Wanderers snatched a 1-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to Pablo Sarabia’s late free kick on Sunday.
Wolves secured their place in the Premier League with their fifth consecutive Premier League under Vitor Pereira lifting them up to 15th and level on points with United, who stay 14th on goal difference.
Easter weekend in the EFL is an English football staple and, after a pulsating round of games on Good Friday, we’re all set to go again on Monday.
There are three games of the regular season remaining and plenty of drama in store at the top and bottom of the Championship, League One and League Two.
Leeds and Burnley could seal Premier League returns

It has been an exciting race for automatic promotion from the Championship, with Leeds United, Burnley and Sheffield United swapping places in the top three for much of the season.
But three defeats in succession for the Blades recently has opened up a five-point gap between themselves and the top two. Although they returned to winning ways against Cardiff City on Good Friday, they may be consigned to a place in the play-offs in order to secure an immediate Premier League return come Monday night.
Chris Wilder’s men travel to Burnley (17:30 BST) knowing a loss, coupled with a Leeds win over Stoke at Elland Road (15:00) will end their hopes of a top-two finish.
But Leeds boss Daniel Farke isn’t getting too carried away after his side’s 1-0 win at Oxford United on Friday.
“I’ve had so many games in this crazy league, I know what can happen,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
“We are in really good shape. When you hit win after win after win in the crunch-time period it is always really good. We are in a good position but nothing is done yet.
“You have to fight for every point. The upcoming games will be difficult, you have to keep your nerve. This league is relentless and to succeed you have to be relentless and this is what we are but we have to keep going. “
Burnley, meanwhile, control their own destiny and manager Scott Parker has no doubts about his squad’s mentality as they look to complete the job.
“This group, in terms of a mindset, just find a way,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire.
“There is quality there of course, but in those moments, the mentality can get you there. “
Last chance saloon for Plymouth

It has been a long, hard season for Plymouth Argyle, who had won just four of 23 Championship matches when Wayne Rooney departed in December.
Since then, they have kept themselves in with a chance of survival under Miron Muslic, but their time is running out fast.
Their last-gasp defeat at Middlesbrough on Friday was a body blow to their hopes of staying up, and they could be all but extinguished if results go against them on Monday.
They host Frank Lampard’s in-form Coventry City side, while Derby County, hovering just above the drop zone, travel to West Brom. While the gap between the two sides is only three points, Argyle’s poor goal difference is the problem; it is 28 goals worse than the Rams’.
Effectively, if the Pilgrims are beaten by Coventry and Derby win at the Hawthorns, they will be six points adrift with two games remaining and facing a near impossible task to stay up but Muslic will be buoyed by his side having won their last two games at Home Park – against Sheffield United and Norwich.
Race for League One play-offs hotting up

After Birmingham’s title win, the race for the second automatic promotion spot in League One is looking extremely tight, with Wrexham one point behind Wycombe.
But arguably the most exciting battle is that for the final play-off place, with six points separating Leyton Orient, the current occupiers, and Blackpool in 10th. The Tangerines also have a game in hand, though it is against the champions.
Steve Bruce’s side welcome Wrexham, while Orient travel to struggling Cambridge who could be relegated on Monday if they fail to win.
Reading, level on points with the O’s, go to Mansfield while eighth and ninth-placed Bolton and Huddersfield go to Lincoln and Stockport respectively.
Defeat for the Terriers would end their hopes of an instant Championship return, with the gap currently standing at five points for them after their home defeat to Cambridge on Friday.
Interim boss Jon Worthington told BBC Radio Leeds that his side will fight until the end to keep promotion hopes alive.
“Until it is mathematically impossible, we’ll keep fighting,” he said. “We have to do that for the club.
“Stockport are a good side, they’ve had a really good season but we’ve got to focus on ourselves. “
Can Carlisle continue unlikely escape act?

Carlisle United looked all but certain to exit the EFL this season when Mark Hughes arrived as manager in February.
But they now have a genuine hope of survival after winning their last three games, cutting the gap to safety from nine points to four.
Friday’s 3-2 victory over leaders Port Vale puts them four points behind Tranmere Rovers, who go to Barrow on Monday, and six adrift of Accrington Stanley, their next opponents.
While Accrington received a confidence boost by beating Salford on Friday, it was their first win in six, and Hughes is hoping his side can add more pressure on those above them with another win.
“We’re still fighting,” Hughes told BBC Radio Cumbria. “It isn’t over until its over. We’re in the best possible place; momentum is important at any stage but for us to win three games back-to-back is huge for us. “
Bottom club Morecambe will be relegated if they fail to beat Salford.
Meanwhile, the race at the top is equally as captivating. With seven points separating leaders Port Vale and Notts County in sixth, all the teams in between have hope of going up automatically.
Vale will be looking to bounce back from the loss at Carlisle when they host a Grimsby Town side very much still in the play-off race.
It is a similar permutation for second-placed Doncaster Rovers, who host Colchester, a team who sit level on points with Grimsby in the final play-off spot.

David Beckham has shared a telling post amid the rumoured family feud with his son Brooklyn Beckham. The football icon took to his Instagram to share an unseen photo of his eldest son following reports of strain in the famous clan.
They have long prided themselves as being a tight knit family as David and wife Victoria’s children have a tight bond. However, with David’s 50th birthday looming there have been reports of a fallout between Brooklyn and brother Romeo.
The rift is believed to be centred around Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull, who reportedly dated Brooklyn nearly nine years ago. It has got so deep that there are fears Brooklyn may even miss his dad’s milestone celebration next month.
However, David has appeared to try and squash any rumours of fraction in his family as he marked Easter. The dad-of-four shared a series of throwback snaps of his children celebrating the occasion over the years.

David included a black and white photo of Brooklyn when he was much younger as he held onto a large chocolate Easter bunny. The former England ace also shared similar snaps of his other children Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Rumours of a rift in the family came after Brooklyn and wife Nicola Petlz skipped a number of family gatherings and David’s landmark birthday may be another family occasion to add to the list.
Nicola and Brooklyn failed to attend David’s pre-birthday bash in Miami last month, which included guests such as football legend Lionel Messi and former supermodel Cindy Crawford.
Adding insult to injury, neither Brooklyn or Nicola publicly wished Victoria a happy 51st birthday last Thursday, which is highly unusual when compared to previous years.
Brooklyn and Nicola allegedly believe Romeo’s new girlfriend Kim does not have the right intentions when it comes to dating him. However, Victoria is said to adore Kim and Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel.
In another twist, neither Victoria, who is known for using social media to praise her children and celebrate milestones, or David, commented on Brooklyn and Nicola’s third wedding anniversary.

And according to reports, Cruz and Romeo failed to congratulate the couple as well. Instead, Brooklyn shared a picture of a bouquet of flowers sent to them from his in-laws Nelson Peltz and Claudia Heffner.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: “David adores his sons and he is so, so proud of how close they are. He loves having a happy family that loves spending time together. “
They added: “Family is everything to him. He is a working class boy who grew up with strong connections to his grandparents and parents, and he loves nothing more than to see his boys, and Harper, being so close.
“While the location will be perfect and stunning, what he wants most is for his family to be around him, happily getting along. Right now, though, things aren’t great. All everyone around them hopes is that they can mend any issues in time for the big day – for David. “
Another friend revealed: “It would absolutely destroy David if any fall-outs carry on and become big deals. It would be the best birthday present ever for David to have all of his children and their partners happily having a wonderful time together. That’s what really puts a smile on his face. “
