‘Underperforming’ Man Utd can ‘change Ratcliffe’s mind’

Getty Images

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says it is up to him and his players to “change” Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s opinion on the team.

Ratcliffe, 72, told BBC Sport this week that some players in United’s squad were “not good enough” and “overpaid”, though he did not specify which players.

At a separate point in the interview, Ratcliffe namechecked Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Antony and Jadon Sancho as transfer deals that Ineos had “inherited” at the club and are yet to pay off.

Asked about Ratcliffe’s comments, Amorim said: “I think if we are being honest in this moment, everybody – me, the players – are underperforming this season.

” I include myself in the underperforming.

“You are talking about players like Casemiro that won everything and we know these players can play so much better.

” He (Ratcliffe) was honest in that. The focus is to change his mind and everybody’s. “

Amorim, who Ratcliffe described as an” outstanding young manager”, says he has a good relationship the United board.

” I think we are really blunt and honest with each other, we are quite similar in that, “said Amorim, ahead of his side’s Europa League match against Real Sociedad.

What did Ratcliffe say about ‘ inheriting ‘ players?

In a wide-ranging interview with BBC Sport earlier this week, Ratcliffe spoke about the difficulties that Ineos have encountered since their investment in the club.

Asked whether he understood the frustration of supporters following the fans ‘ protests before Sunday’s match against Arsenal, Ratcliffe said change took time and cited an example of” inheriting “transfer deals that the club are yet to pay off.

” I sympathise with them because Manchester United is not where it’s expected to be. We are expected to be winning the Premier League and challenging for the Champions League and we are not there at the moment, “he said”. But I think we need to get the house back in order before we can get back to our winning ways.

“It’s not a light switch. I’ll give you an example, if you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we are buying Antony, we are buying Casemiro, we are buying Andre Onana, we are buying Rasmus Hojlund, we are buying Jadon Sancho.

” These are all things from the past but whether we like it or not we have inherited those things and we have to sort it out. For Sancho, who obviously now plays for Chelsea – and we pay half his wages – we are paying £17m to buy him in the summer. So it takes time for us to move away from the past into a new place in the future. “

Asked later in the interview about ‘ inheriting ‘ players, Ratcliffe said the club had – in some situations – spent too much on players that are not good enough but did not specify any players.

” Some are not good enough, some are probably overpaid, “said Ratcliffe.

” But for us to mould a squad, that we are fully responsible for and accountable for, will take time. We’ve got this period where we will move from the past to the future and we are in the middle of that period.

Ugarte returns, Yoro out for Sociedad second leg

Amorim confirmed midfielder Manuel Ugarte would return to the squad for the Europa League last-16 second leg against Real Sociedad on Thursday (20: 00 GMT).

The Uruguayan missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

However, Leny Yoro – who came off at half-time against the Gunners – is unavailable.

Prince William makes surprise confession about sleeping arrangement with Kate Middleton

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article34025829.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_The-Prince-and-Princess-of-Wales-visit-Southport.jpg

The Prince and Princess of Wales fiercely guard time with their children at Adelaide Cottage – the home they see as their private sanctuary.

The couple live in the five-bedroom home on the Windsor estate with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – as well as their beloved family dog, Orla, the cocker spaniel. They’ve called Adelaide Cottage home for almost three years now, with only a few snippets of what goes on behind closed doors. However, on one outing, William seemingly lifted the lid on what happens at bed time with him and Kate with them often joined by one of their family members – Orla, the dog.

William made the revelation as he petted a wellwisher’s dog during a visit to Duchy College in Cornwall last year. As he chatted to Louise Harland and stroked her dog Jacks, she says that the prince told her that Orla often sleeps on the bed alongside the royal couple.

Louise told Hits Radio Cornwall: “]William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate. ]He was] absolutely in love with my little dog. He asked what breed he was and he’s never met one of those breeds, he’s a Cockerjack, so he’s a little bit of a unique combination”.

Orla is not the family’s first pet. William and Kate’s previous dog Lupo – a wedding present from Kate’s brother James – died in November 2020.

In 2022 she featured in a beautiful photo with Princess Charlotte that was released to mark her seventh birthday in May and joined William and Kate at a polo match in 2023.

Meanwhile, it also seems the Wales family have other animals too. Last year, William visited Woodgate Valley Urban Farm, where he got to meet a range of animals – including some very cuddly guinea pigs. The prince got to pet them and was also allowed to brush the fur of one called Snowflake. And he told some of those he met at the farm: “These guys are pretty cool. We’ve got guinea pigs at home and they are not like this.

” I have to spend my life cleaning out the guinea pig cage because the children forget to do it. And then they run off because you have to handle them all the time, that’s why these ones are so calm. The ones we’ve got at home, they’re off. You have to keep them constantly stroked and looked after. “

‘I was friends with Meghan Markle – one thing left me reeling about Netflix show’

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article34833116.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/1_Meghan-Markle-finally-reveals-details-behind-new-Instagram-with-huge-announcement.jpg

A great deal has been said about Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle series on Netflix. While many fans have been lapping up the recipes and glimpse into Meghan’s life behind the scenes, the eight-part show has received some brutal reviews following its release – and now one of Meghan’s former friends has spoken out.

Nick Ede, a popular culture expert, knew Meghan when she was starring on Suits. He has now shared his thoughts on ‘ With Love, Meghan’, and revealed the one aspect that really upset him.

Speaking on the ‘ A Right Royal Podcast’, Nick remarked: “I always look at everything I do…saying to myself, ‘ Do you care? ‘ and the first thing I did when I watched it was say, ‘ No, I don’t care’. There was nothing about it that I cared for”.

He continued: “I didn’t care about the way I felt I was being almost patronised, I didn’t care for the way that the guests were treated, I didn’t really care about the takeaway tips, I felt they were all pretty patronising.

” Especially the one about wrapping a present and using the side to make sure the edges are sharp. You know that kind of thing is so basic I felt almost patronised by Netflix for actually making me endure this for quite a few hours. “

But not everyone agrees. Royal expert Jennie Bond previously told the Mirror:” I think she will justifiably feel annoyed that her plans have drawn such criticism. But I guess she’s used to it by now. I think it’s ridiculous to suggest she’s copying other people. First of all, there’s very little in the media world that is original.

“And secondly, she started out as an influencer – and a very successful one – so it makes perfect sense for her to return to one of her strengths. I think the Netflix publicity is rather to blame, suggesting that this is something new, when the idea of cooking and chatting with friends and celebrity guests has been around for years. But there’s nothing wrong in Meghan giving her own take on a well-used format”.

An expert, meanwhile, has warned that Meghan has just two options if she wants to move past the backlash. The show had been viewed as a make-or-break moment for the Sussexes, who signed a multimillion-pound deal with Netflix in 2020. However, it has already been revealed that it will be returning for a second season in the autumn since filming has already taken place.

PR expert Ed Coram-James told the Mirror that Meghan can now either do nothing or completely re-evaluate her role in the show. He explained: “On With Love, Meghan, the duchess is glowing, surrounded by seemingly close friends and family, in stunning Montecito, which she calls home. She seems happy — it’s her passion project — she’s experimenting and is lucky enough to have the resources and platform to share her passion.

” Some people have compared her to Brooklyn Beckham, not knowing his forte, but experimenting with everything from cooking to photography, and I don’t think this is a bad thing at all.

“Perhaps she simply won’t care about the reviews and expected bad feedback if she has any self-awareness. It might be best to simply ignore them and continue doing what she does best: making headlines as she continues her journey post-royal life”.

But Ed, CEO of Go Up, believes that the poor reviews will sting for Meghan and she should attempt to “reframe the narrative”. He explained: “Meghan has experience pivoting in the media — take her Oprah interview, for example, where she took ownership of her own story.

” Moving past these reviews will require her to lean into her authentic self even more, perhaps by showing up more prominently in the content and being more transparent about her involvement. She’s recently returned to Instagram but could be doing more with it, such as taking her audience behind the scenes of her work. “

The second season of With Love, Meghan is set to be released in the autumn, and has already finished filming, according to Netflix. Meghan celebrated the news on her Instagram Stories, sharing a video showing her wearing a hat with the writing” lettuce romaine calm “on, grinning, and then turning and putting her hands in the air.
