Trump says US launched strike against ISIL in northwest Nigeria

Developing a Story
According to US President Donald Trump, the country has launched an airstrike against ISIL (ISIS) fighters in northwest Nigeria.

Trump stated in a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday evening that “the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria” under my leadership as Commander in Chief.

Trump claimed that ISIL fighters had “targeted and viciously” killed “innocent Christians at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries”!

Trump said, “I’ve previously warned these terrorists that hell would be upon them if they did not stop the slaughter of Christians,” and tonight that was exactly what it was.

The Africa Command of the US military, which oversees operations in Africa, claimed in a post on X that the airstrike was ordered by the Nigerian government and had killed “multiple ISIS terrorists.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted a message on social media praising the support and cooperation of the Nigerian government, adding that there would be “more to come” without providing more information.

According to AFRICOM, the strike took place in “Soboto state,” which appears to be a reference to Nigeria’s Sokoto state.

[Al Jazeera]

Trump announced the US military action in response to allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria, and he said he had given the Pentagon the ultimatum to start making plans for potential military action there.

According to the government of Nigeria, armed groups attack both Christian and Muslim communities in the country, and the US’s claims that Christians face persecution do not reflect the country’s complex security situation and ignore efforts by the country to protect religious freedom.

Donald Trump had claimed that Nigerians were not doing enough to protect its Christian community in his first term as president, and that the threat of US military action had been “percolating for some time.”

“But with the support of the Congress and the State Department, they have since issued a statement that Nigeria is a particular country of concern regarding the rights of Christians, and we’ve been informed that the US has begun conducting overflight surveillance of Nigeria from an airbase in Accra, Ghana, over the past few weeks. And this is what Rattansi said.

The Trump administration acts on Christmas Day. I’m confident that Trump’s Christian evangelical base will enjoy this,” he said.

Newcastle stadium plans in limbo – Howe

Newcastle United’s stadium and training facility are “in limbo,” according to head coach Eddie Howe, and there is a “99.9% chance” he won’t be in charge of seeing their full potential.

CEO David Hopkinson has stated that the club will play at St James’ in its current form for “many years” despite the club looking into expanding or building a new stadium elsewhere in the city.

The hierarchy acknowledges that a new, state-of-the-art base will ultimately be required because of the site’s limitations. However, work is currently effectively double the footprint of their current training ground at Benton.

When asked how the club can advance in 2026 and beyond, Howe had his hands full with on-field issues as he attempted to move 11th-placed Newcastle up the table.

According to him, “That part of the club is in limbo at the moment,” “Fundamentally, looking at the club with a broader view, the training ground, the stadium.”

“In terms of the direction the club is going to go, it would be a big step forward to clarify that and positively impact everything going forward.

It would change everything, according to the statement. In that context and the outstanding work that goes on there, I’m also referring to the academy.

St. James’ was once the second-largest club stadium in the nation, trailing only Old Trafford, but Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, West Ham United, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Everton have since taken the helm over Newcastle’s 52, 335-seater stadium in terms of capacity.

In that time, a significant revenue gap has emerged between Newcastle and the established order, with Manchester United making up £87 million in match-day revenue and £219.3 million in commercial revenue in 2023-2019.

Although Newcastle’s training ground has been updated recently, including new canteen, a players’ lounge, and bigger dressing rooms, it is still far from the best in the nation.

Howe made a point of putting forth the notion that “everyone has the desire to make that happen.”

However, the Newcastle head coach argued that the club’s infrastructure plans must be “poised on a bit of patience” in order to “make sure it’s the right solution for everyone.”

Take the extra time to make the right decisions so the stadium project is the right one for Newcastle for how long the club is in place, he added.

The training ground is also the same. The ideal website and designs are required. It should be accurate rather than hurried.

Players can only leave if replacements come in – Amorim

Images courtesy of Getty
In the absence of replacement players, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will not allow any players to leave during the January transfer window.

In the coming weeks of the season, Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee want to play more frequently. Zirkzee has been linked with a return to Italy, while Mainoo is still looking to go on a loan.

However, Amorim does not believe his squad has enough players to handle a drop in players even when Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui return from the Africa Cup of Nations, even when their squad is strengthened in the middle of the month.

If we don’t get a substitute, he said, “It’s going to be difficult for someone to leave the club.”

“We are brief,” he said. Even with the entire squad, there is still room for improvement.

We have a lot of responsibility, club. We are dealing with all of these issues, and we need to win every game, according to my and everyone else’s thoughts. It makes no difference. There are no justifications.

Seven senior players will miss Amorim’s Boxing Day game against Newcastle.

Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire, the defenders, are both sidelined with calf issues, while Mainoo is also absent.

Amorim has already stated that a potential signing for United could be made in January, but not Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who is expected to leave for Manchester City.

In theory, a midfield upgrade that could replace Zirzkee or Mainoo could help United advance their quest for a European spot in the offseason.

However, losing Mainoo may not be financially wise because whoever came in would be paid three or four times the 20-year-old’s current salary.

“We are struggling, but we have a plan.”

Amorim is doubling down on the point that signing players is irrelevant if they aren’t a part of a longer-term plan.

He said, “We are struggling right now, but the club has a plan, and we will stick to it.”

If we have the chance to bring a player in [that we believe will be the club’s future,] he will come. If not, we have Shea [Lacey], Jack [Fletcher], and Bruno and Kobbie Mainoo’s return in three weeks.

Casemiro and Maguire are both free to discuss potential new clubs with potential new clubs starting January, but Amorim did not provide any information regarding the contract terms.

He believes Casemiro’s training shows that the Brazil skipper will not let go as he counts down the days until his United career ends, unless he significantly reduces his £300, 000-a-week salary.

Casemiro has undoubtedly won the battle to fill Mainoo’s place in Amorim’s midfield, but the former Real Madrid player is now competing with him for a position there.

Amorim believes that the United academy product will ultimately determine the club’s future, despite having to defend himself repeatedly for not using Mainoo enough.

Kobbie Mainoo, he said, “has] played various positions.

He can perform Casemiro’s position, he says. He can play at Aston Villa if we play with three and he can play the same way we did in the previous game.

“He can play there,” according to Mason Mount, in that game.

He will forever be Manchester United’s future, according to the statement. That’s how I feel.

Holly Ramsay marks last Christmas before wedding to Adam Peaty amid family feud

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36457118.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_Holly-Ramsays-Christmas.jpg

Just two days before Adam Peaty’s wedding, Holly Ramsay, is scheduled to get married to him in the middle of their dispute with his family, Holly Ramsay celebrated her final Christmas as an unmarried woman.

Holly Ramsay has celebrated her last Christmas as an unmarried woman. The daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, 25, will tie the knot with Team GB star Adam Peaty on December 27, and took to social media to update fans with a romantic post.

Adam had posted a snap of them both onto his Instagram Story which he he simply captioned: “Merry Christmas!” But Holly took things one step further, by acknowledging the big day that is less than 48 hours away.

The model reposted the snap, which pictured them outside holding hands, onto her on Story and wrote over it: “Last Christmas as a Miss,” as she emblazoned the caption with a string of emojis.

The couple will exchange vows at Bath’s historic Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul before getting festive drinks later in the month.

But it all comes amid a feud that exploded into the public eye after the mother of the groom, Caroline, was left out of Holly Ramsay’s glamorous hen party at Soho Farmhouse, prompting Adam’s aunt, Louise Williams, to publicly criticise Holly and Adam on social media for the “hurt” inflicted.

After being noticeably absent from Holly’s hen party, the question of whether or not her mother-in-law will be invited to the lavish wedding ceremony was raised. She so heartbreakingly stated in a recent interview, “I want Adam to know that no matter what happens in the future, you can talk to me whenever you want.”

She continued to state to the Daily Mail, “I would not forgive anything you’ve done.” I’m so in love with you. I sincerely hope your marriage turns out well, and I sincerely hope that Holly and you have a successful union. I want everything to end, so I’m speaking out.

She claimed that she was at home looking after Adam’s young son, who he shares with his former partner at the time of Holly’s hen party, which included her mother Tana, Victoria Beckham, close family friends, and her siblings. She revealed that she was left crying and that she “didn’t want to live” because that was how she felt at the time.

Caroline claims that her and Holly’s relationship deteriorated as a result of her extended family’s disapproval of the engagement party. She claimed to have sent Holly a text in an effort to acquaint her with her feelings, which irritated Adam. She continued to assert that she thought her son was “in Gordon’s clutches,” which has further exacerbated the ongoing rift.

Holly and Adam traveled to Lapland ahead of Christmas Day, but despite the Olympian making no mention of the milestone milestone Caroline’s 60th birthday, despite the support of others.

Taking to Instagram as her son frollicked in the snow, Caroline confirmed she’d turned 60, and shared warm wishes from various family members.

Happy 60th birthday to one of the most powerful women I’ve ever met, from which I am grateful for everything you have done for the boys! I appreciate you for guiding me through both the good and the bad times. You’ve been there for me for 18 years.

In the meantime, Caroline’s aunt Janet and uncle Eddie shared a sweet nostalgic collage of photos taken right before her birth, with the caption “It only seems like yesterday since you were born Caroline, Caroline.” A lovely Christmas gift made me an aunt for the first time. Happy birthday, everyone, and many happy birthdays on the day.

Venezuela frees dozens detained during protests against Maduro

A human rights advocacy group claims that Venezuelan authorities have released at least 60 people who were detained during demonstrations against President Nicolas Maduro’s re-election, but hundreds of others are still imprisoned.

According to the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, a group of rights activists and detainees’ relatives who were detained as a result of the unrest that followed July’s presidential election, the releases started early on Thursday, over Christmas.

More than 60 Venezuelans who should never have been arbitrarily detained are being released, according to committee head Andreina Baduel, who spoke to the AFP news agency.

We will continue fighting for their full freedom, as well as that of all political prisoners, even though they are not entirely free.

In the July 2024 election, Maduro won a third term in office despite allegations of fraud in part by some members of the opposition. About 2,400 people were arrested as a result of the disputed outcome, which sparked weeks of demonstrations. Approximately 2, 000 people have been freed since then, according to rights organizations.

According to Foro Penal, an NGO that monitors detentions, Venezuela still has at least 902 political prisoners despite recent releases.

According to relatives, Tocoron prison, a maximum-security facility in Aragua state, is located about 134 kilometers (83 miles) from the state’s capital Caracas, where many of the freed people are residing. The conditions under which detainees were released have not been made clear by officials.

According to Baduel, “we must bear in mind that there are more than 1, 000 families with political prisoners.” In 2021, her father, former defense minister Raul Isaias Baduel, a friend of the late president Hugo Chavez, passed away in custody.
