Liverpool had offered to sign Alexander Isak, but Newcastle United turned down his offer.
The Magpies’ offer to the Sweden international is less than £150 million, while the Reds’ offer is less than that figure.
Although there hasn’t been any confirmation as to the value of Liverpool’s offer, there are reports that it is worth £110 million plus add-ons.
Isak did not make the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, despite the club’s qualifying for the Champions League this year, because he wants to look into a move away.
In light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future, Isak is currently training alone at his former club Real Sociedad while the bid from Liverpool has been submitted.
In July, BBC Sport reported that Liverpool was considering moving Isak for upwards of £130 million.
Liverpool have not been able to pounce on Liverpool’s significant interest despite Newcastle’s assertion that he is not for sale this summer.
The Premier League champions have since submitted an official bid after making an initial contact with Newcastle last month.
Although manager Arne Slot is eager to add the striker to his squad before the new season, it is still to be seen whether Liverpool will make an improved bid for the forward.
During the club’s extensive summer of spending, the Dutchman’s squad has already been increased by a number of players.
For a total of about £265 million without add-ons, they have signed Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Armin Pecsi.
