With winter in full swing, many families may find it helpful to use a dehumidifier to avoid mould from growing in their homes
Aldi has introduced a new range of ‘winter warmer’ SpecialBuy products designed to help shoppers stay comfortable at home throughout the winter. Among the new items is an electronic dehumidifier that can help dry clothes faster, reduce mould, and improve air quality by absorbing moisture.
Last week, the UK experienced a bitterly cold spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing multiple snow and ice warnings. This week, conditions are forecast to be much milder, but also wet and wintry as unsettled low pressure moves in from the Atlantic.
During such times, many households across the country will turn up their central heating and attempt to dry clothes indoors on radiators or heated airers to avoid costly energy bills. However, doing so can increase the amount of moisture in the air, often resulting in condensation and mould at home.
Dehumidifiers help improve the air quality by removing excessive moisture. This prevents mould, mildew, and dust mites from growing, which are all detrimental to allergies and can make it difficult to breathe.
While there are many different kinds of dehumidifiers available on the market, Aldi has released one as part of its latest SpecialBuy middle aisle lineup. Its Midi Dehumidifier costs £89.99 and is available to buy in stores now.
The 200W household gadget comes with a two-litre tank, and it can remove up to twelve litres of water a day, helping to manage moisture at home during the colder months. It also features wheels, allowing for convenient movement from room to room.
Other features include a ‘simple’ touch-screen, a ‘quiet’ mode, child lock, overflow protection and auto-shut off when the water tank is full. It can help dry laundry faster if put near them for anyone keen to reduce energy bills by not using their tumble dryer. The dehumidifier will only be around while stocks last. As with any SpecialBuy, once it’s gone, it’s gone.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “For speedy drying and to manage moisture in the air during colder months, shoppers can choose the Midi Dehumidifier (£89.99). Designed to help manage moisture at home during the colder months, it can remove up to 12 litres of water a day and has a 2L tank, adjustable humidity settings, a 24-hour timer and a quiet operating mode for use around the house.
“The unit also comes with wheels for easy movement, a simple touch-screen display and a drainage hose for continuous use, making it a useful addition for keeping spaces comfortable and helping clothes dry more quickly.”
According to the UK consumer organisation, Which?, dehumidifiers draw excess moisture from the air, helping to combat condensation, prevent mould growth and reduce damp on walls. There are two main types to choose from: refrigerant or desiccant.
The group explains: “Refrigerant dehumidifiers work by creating a cold surface; when warm, damp air comes into contact with it, water condenses and drips into the water tank. They typically struggle in colder spaces, such as cellars.
