Following his tragic passing at the age of 54, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, one of the Resident stars, is mourning.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his roles as Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show and AJ Austin in The Resident, has died at the age of 54. The actor tragically drowned on Sunday near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, as confirmed by Costa Rican National Police.
Following Warner’s sad death, which police say was caused by asphyxia as a result of accidental drowning, his The Resident co-stars have been paying tribute to the beloved actor. The Resident originally ran on Fox between 2018 and 2023, before gaining a new international following on Netflix when it was released on the platform last year.
Many of the show’s biggest stars, who had many scenes with Warner, have written sincere tributes to him. Legendary surgeon AJ Austin joined the cast for the season 2 premiere and continued until season 6 when the show was over.
Emily VanCamp, who played Nic Nevin in the medical drama, took to Instagram to share a black and white picture of them both together.
She put the caption to the photo, “I’m not sure I have the words to express how wonderful it was to get to know you and work with you.” Your hearty chuckle, the bear hugs, and our conversation about life, love, and family.
A genuine family man with a never-ending spirit of generosity and integrity. You followed my friend’s instructions. I extend my love to your gorgeous family and all those who knew and were close to you. Beyond heartbroken
Shaunette Renée Wilson shared a photo of them both wearing their medical uniforms on Instagram, noting that Dr. Mina Okafor and Warner’s character AJ were in a close relationship during the run of the show.
She wrote, “Last week, I felt the need to text you for one of our lengthy heart checks.” I sincerely hope I can have the ability to express my gratitude for your wisdom, kindness, and ability to be both unserious and profound in one sentence.
“I’m beyond heartbroken,” I said. I cherished you a lot, dearly. His family and loved ones are in my heart. I have no idea how much grief can come from such a tragedy.
Rest assured, Malcolm, in power. Being Mina to your AJ was a joy. You will be deeply missed.
Meanwhile, Manish Dayal, an actor from Devon Pravesh, shared a video of Warner talking to audience members about growing up in the spotlight.
Bro, I wish I had the words… You always had the words. “He captioned it with a heartbroken emoji.
Morris Chestnut, an actor for Barrett Cain, also shared a moving tribute to the late actor, along with videos and images of their scenes.
He wrote, “Heartbroken to learn of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing. It was a pleasure to work with him on The Resident.
