Neil Gaiman labels ex babysitter ‘a fantasist’ in court documents amid sexual assault claims

After being accused of sexual assault, author Neil Gaiman claimed that his child’s former babysitter is a “fantasist who has fabricated a tale of abuse against me.”

The British author, 64, has demanded that the case against him be dropped. In the US, Scarlett Pavlovich is suing for about $700,000 ($5.6 million). According to Ms. Pavlovich, Gaiman claimed that his ex-wife, American singer Amanda Palmer, had informed her of previous allegations made by numerous other women.

The author, who is best known for writing Coraline, Stardust, Good Omens, American Gods, and other works, refuted the assertions. He claimed in court documents that “none of Pavlovich’s claims are accurate.” She allegedly fabricates a tale of abuse against me and Ms. Palmer, he added.

The claims are refuted by Neil Gaiman (WireImage).

Prior to Palmer and Gaiman announcing their divorce in 2022, Gaiman continued, claiming that the “alleged conduct claimed and described in the complaint, all allegedly occurred in New Zealand.” According to Gaiman, they engaged in “sexual activity” shortly after Ms. Pavlovich was hired to look after his son in February 2022. He claimed that the two parties had exchanged texts, and that this was mutual.

Gaiman also included a “strict confidentiality” clause in her contract with Ms. Pavlovich’s representative and named those who could be called as witnesses. The author claimed that before filing the complaint, she “engaged in a media campaign to promote her alleged claims.”

In Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New York, Ms. Pavlovich’s lawsuits were filed. They allege that Gaiman and Palmer were negligent and that the couple broke federal human trafficking laws. In New Zealand, in 2023, Gaiman was charged with sexual assault in a police report. In the filing to the Wisconsin court, Gaiman mentions that the investigation was later dropped.

Palmer previously stated on Instagram that she would only respond to the specific allegations that have been made against me if I deny them. She continued, “My heart goes out to all survivors.”

His publisher Dark Horse Comics canceled another Anansi Boys comic book because eight allegations against Gaiman were made in New York Magazine in January. Additionally, his book Coraline’s stage adaptation in the UK was cancelled, and Sir Terry Pratchett’s estate canceled his project funding proposal for a Good Omens comic book.

Following its second series, Netflix announced that a TV series of Gaiman’s dark fantasy film The Sandman, starring British actor Tom Sturridge, will end later this year. A film adaptation of The Graveyard Book has also been reported to have been shelved, and the number of actors who are currently producing Good Omens, starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen, has been reportedly decreased in response to a Tortoise Media podcast that was conducted in July of last year.

Gaiman claimed to have read the allegations, which he denies. He added that he is still “learning” and that he is “not as thoughtful as I could or should have been.” He continued, “I’m far from the ideal person, but I’ve never engaged in sexual misconduct without consent.” Ever”.
