NBA Demands Justice Over Killing Of Port Harcourt Lawyer

The alleged murder of Bright Nda Owhor, one of its members, was condemned by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on July 5, 2025 in Port Harcourt, the state capital of the river.

In a statement released on Sunday via his official X handle, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, SAN, SAN, SAN, SAN, SAN, cried out for immediate justice for the tragic incident, calling it “senseless and brutal.”

A promising young attorney’s life was ruined in a most pointless and brutal way by Bright Nda Owhor. His sudden passing is both a heartbreaking loss for his family and his coworkers and a stark reminder of the deepening insecurity that pervades our society, according to Osigwe.

This obscene act is completely condemned by the NBA. No society that claims to be free of impunity and unchecked violence can tolerate these killings. According to him, “the most fundamental of all rights is the right to life, and any violation of that right in such a cruel way is unacceptable under any circumstances.”

The NBA demanded accountability by urging the Police Inspector-General, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, and all relevant security organizations to conduct an immediate investigation into Owhor’s death.

We demand that the perpetrators be located, tracked down, and tried to prosecute as many people as possible. Justice must be done quickly, not only through observation, but also through observation,” Osigwe said.

The NBA cautioned that legal professionals cannot continue to serve society when there is a risk of violence and death, as well as raising concerns about the country’s rising insecurity.

The NBA president urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action to combat the rising tide of insecurity, which affects both citizens and legal professionals nationwide.

The organization, which is committed to closely monitoring the case until justice is served, extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the NBA’s Port Harcourt branch, and the entire legal system.
