Morecambe’s compliance with its rules is “serious concerns” for the National League, which has stated in a statement. The organization also plans to “discuss potential additional sanctions.”
A deal hasn’t been reached with the beleaguered club since League Two was relegated, despite two parties accepting takeover bids and the resignation of the board of directors.
The league claimed to have met with Shrimps owner Jason Whittingham on Thursday to “outline conditions that must be met” by Monday at 12:00 BST.
In September 2022, Whittingham announced the club’s sale, but negotiations have not yet been made, with the club dropping from League One to the National League after being relegated twice in the previous three seasons.
The EFL approved their takeover of Panjab Warriors earlier this summer after their relegation from League Two was confirmed, but the deal has not yet been finalized. The club has been involved in a takeover attempt for more than a year.
With only two weeks until the start of the season, it’s unclear where that bid or the one for the Panjab Warriors’ efforts are now, despite the fact that another takeover bid led by Jonny Cato was accepted earlier in July.
The Lancashire club has had a difficult summer, as the Shrimps’ board had previously threatened to dissolve the organization if a deal was not struck.
Whittingham then fired the board, but they were soon reinstated to aid the completion of the deal with Panjab Warriors.
