Singer Nathan Sykes, has opened up about the band’s future following the tragic death of his bandmate Tom Parker and his decision to walk away from a major record deal.
The Wanted, formed in 2009, became famous for their chart-topping hits like All Time Low and Glad You Came. The original lineup of consisted of Max George, Nathan, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, and Tom. Together, they became one of the biggest boy bands of the early 2010s. Tom, one of the group’s lead singers, passed away in March 2022 after battling terminal brain cancer. His death marked a turning point for the band and left Nathan and the rest of the group mourning over the tragic loss.
Nathan, who had nearly gone solo nearly a decade ago, made the difficult choice to walk away from releasing a full album and leave behind a big-money contract when Tom’s health took a turn for the worse. After hearing the devastating news about Tom’s condition, Nathan knew he had to make the decision.
“Everything stopped”, Nathan told The Sun. “It was that afternoon after I got the call about Tom, I rang the label and I said, ‘ I need you to let me out of this contract’. And they were like, ‘ You’re walking away from a full album? ‘. I was like, ‘ Yeah. I’ve got to. There will hopefully be more times in my life where I get to write an album. This tour and this celebration of the band needs to be done now’.
” I was never going to put myself over Tom in that situation. After Tom passed, I was listening to some of the stuff that I’d written previously for the album and I was like, ‘ No, I’m going to can the whole lot’. “
After nearly a decade of reflection, Nathan has made his return to music with the release of his new single, Pieces Of Me. While the future of The Wanted remains uncertain, Nathan has chosen to pursue a solo career.
Earlier this year, Kelsey Parker exclusively revealed she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Will Lindsay, three years after the tragic death of her husband Tom. After his death, Kelsey was left as a solo mum to their two children, Aurelia, now five, and Bodhi, four.
But in a at their home, Kelsey and her new partner reveal that they’re embarking on parenthood together – and Kelsey believes Tom has given them his” blessing”. The TV star, who runs a performing arts school, had previously spoken about wanting more children with Tom. Sadly, that was not meant to be”.
“Tom and I always said we wanted four – but life had other plans”, Kelsey says. “So yes, this is amazing but also bittersweet. The joys of finding out I’m pregnant and moving forward with my life, while thinking, ‘ My life could have been so different. ‘ I’ve felt every emotion under the sun. I’m still getting my head around it but I’m so excited. And I know I’m putting myself out there, telling people. I just want everyone to be as happy as I am”.
Kelsey and Will live in the second family home she shared with Tom. “Tom and I had a house before, which we had the kids and got married in. We moved into my current home in September 2021, and Tom only had eight months in this place, but I feel like he picked it for me. Will gradually moved in. There wasn’t a specific date, but he moved in when it felt right for all of us. Right now, we don’t have any plans to move elsewhere and we’ve made this our home”.
