Mutfwang, COAS Reaffirm Shared Commitment To Peace, Development In Plateau

Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau State, reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting regional peace, enhancing security, and accelerating development.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the COAS’s chief of army staff, was greeted on Tuesday by Mutfwang during a courtesy visit to the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos.

Governor Mutfwang praised the Nigerian Army and other security organizations for their “resilience, professionalism, and sacrifice” in the face of the complex security situation on the Plateau and throughout the nation while describing the visit as appropriate and comforting.

Despite dreadful intelligence reports in the lead-up to the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations, Plateau State has one of its most tranquil festive seasons in recent memory, according to the governor.

He attributed the relative calm to the Nigerian Army’s officers and men, who remained on duty while the country’s citizens celebrated with their families, and their discipline.

Governor Mutfwang praised fallen soldiers and assured that the government would continue to support both the families of fallen soldiers and those still serving on the occasion of Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
We owe them a duty of care and constant support, he said, “beyond prayers.”

The Governor stressed the need to use kinetic and non-kinetic strategies when addressing insecurity, despite acknowledging that some security issues still exist.

He argued that “insurgents and terrorists remain state enemies who threaten Nigeria’s sovereignty and must be confronted decisively.” “There is a need to deepen non-kinetic approaches alongside ongoing kinetic operations,” he said.

The Plateau governor called for the continued presence of troops to bring about peace and confidence in the Nigerian Army’s decency.

He claimed that Plateau State was “a welcoming home for all who serve the country,” promising that the government would continue to work closely with the military to safeguard lives and property.

Lieutenant General Shaibu earlier stated that he was conducting official engagements throughout the state and commended the Plateau State Government for its unwavering support of Jos. The 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army is headquartered there.

He noted that the military’s and the state’s government’s cooperation and synergy have significantly improved security outcomes.

The Nigerian Army will continue to work with the state government to protect lives and property, the COAS assured.

According to General Shaibu, “peace and stability in Plateau State remain a shared responsibility and a goal that can be achieved through sustained partnership.”
