Music legend Paul Hardcastle shared the devastating news that his son, Paul Hardcastle Jr, has died following a motorcycle accident

Paul Hardcastle’s official Instagram account has announced the tragic death of his son at the age of 35. The devastating news was shared in a heartbreaking post on Monday night.

Sharing a throwback image of his son, who shares the same name, the star behind the No1 song 19 wrote: “Just to let you know that my super talented son Paul Hardcastle Jnr was in a fatal motorcycle accident earlier and has sadly died. RIP son love Dad.”

Paul Jnr was a successful musician in his own right, playing the saxophone and DJing. He performed alongside his father in the smooth jazz album Hardcastle 5, appearing on the final track, Take 1, in 2008. He also worked on the 2022 release, Hardcastle X.

He had an international breakthrough in 2010 when he co-wrote, recorded, and performed his debut single, Touch and Go, produced by his father. It reached number one in the USA Billboard Jazz Chart.

Followers were quick to pay tribute to the late musician in the comments section. Among them was former TOWIE star James Argent, who wrote: “I’m so sorry mate, thinking of you all. Heartbreaking.” He added a broken heart emoji.

Presenter Hayley Palmer also said: “Paul, I don’t even have the words – I am so so sorry to hear this. Heartbreaking. Am thinking of you Paul xx”

Hardcastle, 68, a huge star in the Eighties. His number one hit in 1985, 19, was created in his parents’ living room in Leytonstone and backed by Simon Fuller, who quit his record company job to be his manager.

The song topped the charts in 13 countries. It meant suddenly Paul couldn’t walk the streets without someone humming its repetitive, addictive chorus: “N-n-n-n-nineteen, nineteen.”

Music mogul Fuller, who represented the Spice Girls and David Beckham, was Paul’s best man when he married Dolores. He is also godfather to his eldest daughter Maxine.

In a tragic turn of events, the composer previously revealed how a life-changing motorbike accident ended up kicking off his career in music. In May 2024, when speaking to Steve Denyer on My 80s Playlist, he explained he initially waned to be a motorbike racer.

He called it his “ambition in life”. However, he was left hospitalised for nearly four months after a nasty accident. “I came out, I had compound fractures on my femur, my tibia, and fibula,” he said. “Half of it was my fault, because I was going too fast, but someone pulled out as well.”

Describing how it then secured his love of music and his future career, he went on: “I was in there for four months, I had nothing to do. I was just listening to the radio.

“I had done music with my dad, when I was about eight years old, I went around Berlin. We lived everywhere, anywhere that he was getting gigs. I was sort of a novelty because I could play the drums and do a little bit of sort of singing and play a little bit of guitar.”

He said he then found himself “wrangling his way” into a band before going solo.
