Emmy Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield, who was in The West Wing for seven years, turned himself in Tuesday to authorities in New Mexico, US, to face child sex abuse charges

This is the mugshot of The West Wing actor Timothy Busfield accused of child sex abuse.

The star, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1991 for his role in Thirtysomething, handed himself in to authorities on Tuesday to face the charges. These stem from allegations Busfield, 68, he inappropriately touched a minor on the set of a TV series he was directing.

Authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, issued a warrant for the actor’s arrest on Friday on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. A criminal complaint alleges the acts occurred on the set of the series The Cleaning Lady, which was filmed in Albuquerque.

Now police in the city have released a custodial image of Busfield, who is a father of three, as they continue to investigate the claims. According to a video obtained by publications in the US, Busfield insisted: “I did not do anything to those little boys” when he was processed at the police station.

Busfield, who played senior White House Correspondent Danny Concannon in The West Wing between 1999 and 2006, allegedly groomed the boys on the set of The Cleaning Lady, in which he starred and directed. The star, also known for his roles in Field of Dreams and Thirtysomething, continues to deny the allegations.

According to a copy of the warrant obtained by media in the US, Busfield touched one boy three times on private areas over his clothes when he was seven. Then the star touched him five or six times when the boy was eight.

The child reportedly didn’t tell anyone about the alleged abuse because he feared Busfield — who he apparently called “Uncle Tim” — would get mad. A second boy claimed Busfield inappropriately touched him over two years, without specifying where, as he worked on the show that ran until 2025, according to The Sun US.

The alleged abuse took place between November 2022 and spring 2024. At one point, Busfield allegedly kissed the child on the face as he got a haircut in the hair and makeup trailer, the criminal complaint states. The boys’ mum reported it to social services in October 2025.

Busfield, born in Lansing, Michigan, allegedly told cops it was “highly likely” he had some sort of “physical contact” with the children. According to reports, he said: “I don’t remember it, if it happened. I don’t remember overtly tickling the boys ever, but it wouldn’t be uncommon for me.”
