According to player union Fifpro, the majority of female footballers are making “insufficient income” to pursue a successful career.
It polled 407 members of the national team from 41 nations, finding that 25% of those who earned less than £20,000 ($14,922) and 25% of those who worked outside the game.
Additionally, it revealed that 22% of players had no contract at all while 23% had no contract at all.
The survey we conducted in 2022 across all confederations is a repeat of what we did, and the results suggest that more work is required, according to Dr. Alex Culvin, Fifpro’s director of women’s football.
The statistics are crystal clear: the majority of players’ income is insufficient to support secure career paths in the game.
Players will be more inclined to leave football early to make ends meet, which poses a risk to the viability of the game.
Additionally, Fifpro’s survey includes information on player workload and travel preferences.
57% of players claimed that the amount of rest needed before a game was insufficient, and 57% claimed the same thing after the game.
Only 11% of players traveled in premium economy or business class, compared to 75% of players. 77% of players took airplanes to a game, and the majority of them did it more than once.
