Morecambe have confirmed that they can now sign players and that their Saturday National League game against Altrincham will go ahead.

After being suspended by the league for breaking its rules, the Shrimps were ordered to postpone their first three games of the campaign.

The Lancashire club’s long-awaited acquisition by the Panjab Warriors consortium was finally completed on Sunday despite the uncertainty surrounding their future.

Ashvir Singh Johal, the first Sikh to manage professionally in England, took over as manager on Monday and was replaced by Derek Adams.

The league had previously stated that the embargo wouldn’t end until all football creditors, including players, staff, and HM Revenue & Customs, had received payment.

Morecambe stated in a statement that “optimism is building both on and off the pitch” as new ownership guides the club into a new era.

The Shrimps’ early statements and the tone for the season ahead are expected to be filled with energy for fans.

The season’s opening game is what is known as “the beginning of something special.” We’re asking our supporters to join us in this endeavor and become a part of it from day one. We want to create a team and a club that the town can proud of.

The BBC became aware that Morecambe only had five players under contract on Monday.
