According to the 26-year-old who laments the “scary” use of deep-fake clips, Molly-Mae Hague has claimed she has “never even smelled” the perfume that the deepfake advert claims is her favorite.

Fans were allegedly tricked into purchasing the perfume by the deepfake, according to Molly Mae.

Molly-Mae Hague has warned fans about the dangers of artificial intelligence after a fake video of her promoting a perfume went viral.

The influencer and businesswoman, 26, shared a video online discussing a fan interaction that left her shaken up over the use of the technology. She said: “Yesterday while I was in London, a girl came up to me and she was like oh I’ve just bought my best friend the perfume you love, for her birthday.”

The girl told Molly-Mae that she had bought “that Nyla one from TikTok”. The former Love Island star said: “I was gobsmacked, I was like ‘that’s AI.’”

Molly-Mae’s sister, Zoe Rae, said: “I thought it was a clip from an old YouTube video that they’ve used.”

However, Molly-Mae continued to say, “There’s a clip going around on TikTok, they do it with lots of different people, they’ll literally put AI over the clip and be like “oh I love this Nyla perfume” in my literal voice, but it’s AI, how terrifying.”

She explained to the fans, “I’ve never even smelt this perfume because people assume it’s my favorite perfume.”

Molly-Mae is not the first celebrity to be the victim of deep-fake videos – with stars like Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Nigella Lawson, and even Martin Lewis warning against the damaging effects of this technology.

A person’s face or voice is replaced with that of another person in a video or audio recording known as a deepfake. They can be used to sell goods or services online in incredibly realistic ways.

According to Police UK, some “exact likenesses of a real person” can be compared to fake content. Although they are occasionally used for malicious and criminal purposes, it says they aren’t always harmful or illegal.

One commenter wrote, “If people are gullible enough to believe that Molly-Mae or any other celeb wears some cheap TikTok shop perfume, then that’s on them.” Another once said, “It’s very obvious, lol. On TikTok, I’ve seen the same thing happen to various perfumes and influencers.

Others claimed to be victims of the fake advertisement, though. One person claimed, “I hadn’t even realized it was AI until now.” Someone else wrote, “OMG I feel for this too! I purchased it” ! A third person asked, “Ahhh, I’m seeing this now that I’ve already purchased it.

In 2024, the Advertising Standards Agency received 1, 691 reports of potential scams, according to a report released earlier this year. According to it, celebrity scams accounted for the “vast majority” of Scam Ad Alerts sent last year, making up the main trend.

According to the warning, “Scammers continue to target celebrities and other public figures to promote cryptocurrency, investments, keto slimming gummies, and other things.”

Before handing over your information to a celebrity in an online advertisement, you should do some checks before purchasing the product. Check if the ad is coming from their official account and see if it seems out of line, according to the ASA. Although some famous people do support products, they rarely advocate for “complex investments” or “wunder cures”
