Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian who won the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year, became the first player to do so three times on Tuesday.
Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017, was the Premier League’s top scorer last season, scoring 29 goals and adding 18 assists, which helped the team win the title and place the team 10 points clear of Arsenal’s.
The 33-year-old was already the first player to receive the Premier League Player of the Season award, the Golden Boot for most goals scored, and the Playmaker for most assists in the same season.
Salah first won the PFA award in 2018 after his first season at Liverpool, and then again in 2022, placing him first among a six-man shortlist made up of PFA members from 92 Premier League and Football League teams.
Alexis Mac Allister, his Liverpool teammate Alexis MacAllister, Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Cole Palmer from Chelsea made the shortlist.
In April, Salah finally received a two-year contract extension from Liverpool, breaking months of rumors about a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Morgan Rogers, a midfielder for Aston Villa and England, was named Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals in his 37 starts last year, including a hat-trick against Celtic.
Mariona Caldentey, a midfielder for Arsenal, was named the team’s “women’s player of the year.” In her first season with the club, the Spaniard scored nine league goals and eight goals in the Champions League, where Arsenal won the trophy against her former club Barcelona.
Olivia Smith, a 21-year-old Canadian forward, was Liverpool’s top scorer last season with nine goals overall.
Smith has since become the first female player to break the $1 million ($1.35 million) barrier and has since moved to Arsenal.
Salah was named in the Premier League team of the year, along with Milos Kerkez, a new signing from Bournemouth, and four other players from last season at Liverpool.
Premier League Players of the Year:
