Miriam Margolyes, who has appeared in the Harry Potter film series and Call the Midwife, has now shared an update on her health in an interview published this week
Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has shared an update on her health. The actor’s latest comments, which included discussion about her mobility, come after she dismissed the suggestion that she was at “death’s door” just last month.
Miriam, 84, has spoken about her health over the years, like discussing her experience with spinal stenosis, which is said to include limb pain and weakness among the potential symptoms. The BAFTA winner, who also has arthritis, has previously shared that she now uses mobility aids.
Last year, Miriam predicted that she had up to six years left to live and has now shared an update on her health in an interview published today. She spoke about her life ahead of releasing memoir the Little Book Of Miriam next month.
Whilst speaking to the Daily Mail, Miriam expressed regret over not exercising when she was younger. The former Call the Midwife cast member said that she has “let her body down” and suggested that she hadn’t taken care of it.
She said: “I’ve let my body down. I haven’t taken care of it. I have to walk with a walker now.” Miriam went on to tell the outlet that she wishes that she had “done exercise” in previous years, before further sharing her thoughts.
Miriam described it as the “most ghastly waste of time” but she said in the interview that it keeps people going. The performer then concluded the discussion about her own health by suggesting that she had been “foolish”.
It comes amid her return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the show Margolyes and Dickens: More Best Bits. Prior to its launch, a video shared by organiser Fane Productions showed Miriam assuring that she was “very much alive”.
In the video, which was posted on social media last month, she was seen saying that fans “might have seen” speculation that she was “at death’s door”. Miriam however then dismissed the suggestion in the video message at the time.
She was seen teasing in the clip that she was “raring to go” for her latest show at the annual festival in Scotland. She was heard saying in the video: “B******s. I’m very much alive and raring to go to the Edinburgh Fringe this year.”
Miriam has previously suggested that she has up to six years left to live. She made the prediction in an interview with the Telegraph that was published last year. She spoke about wanting to continue performing until her death.
She said: “When you know that you haven’t got long to live – and I’m probably going to die within the next five or six years, if not before … I’m loath to leave behind performing.” She went on to describe her job as “such a joy”.
Miriam told the outlet that she finds the physical impact of her body aging to be “limiting” and “depressing”. She shared at the time: “I want to be able to play parts that aren’t just sitting in wheelchairs, but I’m not strong enough.”
