In a reference to his upcoming film F1, which also stars Brad Pitt, Samson Idris was spotted arriving at the 2025 Met Gala in New York City in an APXGP racing car.
British actor Damson Idris made a bold arrival at the Met Gala.
The 33-year-old star, who has been in Black Mirror, Doctors, Casualty and other dramas, rocked up wearing racing suit, accessorised with a red, white and blue helmet featuring 20,000 Swarovski crystals. He also arrived in a APXGP racing car, while most of the other attendees in New York City were seen pulling up in black SUVs.
Because Damson, who was born in Peckham, southeast London, is scheduled to compete in blockbuster F1 later this year. Brad Pitt will play the lead role in the Brad Pitt-starring Warner Bros Pictures film, which he has already shot, and will feature the story of Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver who has to retire following a collision.
Tommy Hilfiger has teamed up with the film ahead of its release. Damson, who last year won a NAACP Image Award for his role in crime drama Snowfall, became the clothing brand’s menswear ambassador in April 2023.

Hilfiger and the highly anticipated movie F1 are “excited to partner with,” according to a Hilfiger spokesman. We wanted Joshua Pierce’s Met Gala entrance to reflect the same cinematic energy as Joshua Idris, who drives for the fictional APXGP team.
The Hilfiger logo was emblazoned on both the racing driver’s outfit and Damson’s second costume, which was a rouge tuxedo. A nod to “modern dandyism” and the theme of this year’s Costume Institute exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” were the side satin stripes and slight flare on the pants. The young actor donned the ensemble with a bespoke brooch and jewelry from his own label Didris.
The Met is all about making a statement, and Tommy Tartan’s sharp, tailored tuxedo was the highlight, seamlessly transitioning from high-octane to high-fashion. It “embodied the essence of both worlds” from the beginning to the end, according to the Hilfiger statement.
F1, in which Brad serves as the lead character, is directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick. Kerry Condon, best known for her role in the 2022 film The Banshees of Inisherin, and Damson also have a significant supporting role.
The Met Gala, an annual haute couture fundraising event that takes place on the first Monday of May, is a Christmas holiday for fashion enthusiasts. Guests’ attempts to adhere to the theme (or fail miserably) are subject to scrutiny from sartorial critics around the world, with men frequently criticized for doing so online.
