As online trolls launch fresh attacks, Meghan Markle’s supporters have criticized the resurgence of a hateful hashtag targeting the Duchess of Sussex.
The hashtag “MeghanMarkleAmericanPsycho” has been circulating on social media platform X, drawing particularly harsh criticism towards Meghan. This comes as Meghan’s lifestyle brand, which was changed from American Riviera to As Ever, and there is controversy surrounding her choice to wear a Northwestern University jumper, which echoes the late Princess Diana’s aesthetic.
Defending the duchess, fans have taken to social media to voice their support. One user stated on X: “Calling Meghan Markle a psycho when you’re the internet bully is ridiculous, every day you dedicate all your time attacking a person who doesn’t even read your tweets, you’re the psycho here”.
Another added, “I believe the Meghan Markle shaming is the most mind-blowing reverse bullying I have ever witnessed.” I genuinely dont (sic) think it is healthy or nice. Leave her alone… move on with life to people who are actual villains”. A third chimed in: “Meghan Markle hate is sooo forced”, reports the Express, while another concurred: “Yes. People seem to hate her for no reason”.

One supporter expressed confusion over the disparate public attitudes, saying, “This level of hate is just next level… and K is glorified for it. ” Another person echoed their point of view, saying, “I don’t know a lot about Meghan Markle, but you’ll always see me defending her because seeing someone who doesn’t deserve it get bullied or abused makes me mad.
Despite having previously addressed the issue of online bullying and the dangers of social media, The Duchess of Sussex has not commented on the abuse directed at her. Meghan spoke on behalf of a panel at the Texas South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival last year and stressed the importance of putting online safety measures into place.
She discussed the level of harassment she experienced on various online platforms, noting that her pregnancies with Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie resulted in the “worst of the bullying.” Meghan disclosed: “It’s really interesting because I can reflect on it, I keep my distance from]social media] right now, for my own wellbeing”.
She continued, “The majority of the bullying and abuse I was going through on social media and online came when I had Lili and Archie’s baby bumps.” Reflecting on the cruelty she encountered, Meghan remarked, “And you just think about that and you]struggle] to wrap your head around why people would be so hateful. It’s not catty, it’s cruel”.
Following her January visit to Jamaica with Prince Harry, the Duchess was again the subject of a backlash the same year. In her Daily Mail column, Journalist Liz Jones defended her position, highlighting the unprecedented level of online abuse.
I wonder how she would function if Meghan were to read even a small amount of the online abuse she received. She added: “You might say, well, don’t read it, but these barbs have a way of finding their target, seeping under a door”.
