Meghan Markle should welcome him back into her life with open arms despite the fact that Thomas Markle’s life-saving surgery ordeal will bring back painful memories for his separated daughter.

Holed up in 19th-floor flat on an island in the Philippines thousands of miles away from his estranged daughter, Thomas Markle recently asked: “Do you think Meghan will come to my funeral?”

It’s a shocking statement that instantly plays on the heart strings of anyone with a shred of empathy to spare, but history has proven that Meghan Markle’s troubled father often has his own agenda when he makes such statements to the media.

The 81-year-old has returned to the spotlight this week after suffering a serious illness on Tuesday. He is reportedly “fighting for his life” in intensive care. Thomas, a retired lighting engineer, had to have his limb amputated on Wednesday after his limb “blue than black” turned out. Although his condition appears to be “extremely concerning,” doctors claim that he is stable.

Meghan, who has to navigate a tense relationship with her father on the international stage, is undoubtedly brought up by Thomas’ worrying state of health. Millions of people watched her every move as she prepared to marry into one of the world’s most well-known families back in 2018. But she was suddenly confronted with the unexpected realization that her father would not be having her walk down the aisle behind closed doors.

Thomas was scheduled to attend, but when he was caught staging paparazzi photos of himself “preparing” for the wedding to make a quick buck, he was caught in a worldwide media scandal. He abruptly announced he would not attend after the fallout left him looking “stupid and hammy” and was clearly embarrassed that his blatant money-making move had been exposed.

The Palace alleged that Thomas’ health issues caused his absence as he suffered two heart attacks on the eve of the Sussex’s fairytale wedding. They described the incident as “deeply personal” for Meghan, who had her father-in-law King Charles walk her down the aisle.

A much more complicated and heartbreaking picture can be found far away from Thomas’ health issues. Following the royal row, Meghan wrote a letter to her father, asking him to stop talking about her to the press, and she has been the target of an on-slaught of vitriol and death threats on social media since joining the Royal Family. She was once left suicidal over the dark struggles she endured in the spotlight. She claimed that her father had “broken her heart into a million pieces” in the five-page letter, which was seen by the Mirror and heard in court.

But it didn’t stop Thomas from slamming his estranged daughter, the only way he knows how, with a desperate cling to the spotlight. Meghan has been called “embarrassing” and “cruel,” said she has “never been authentic” and “fakes it for the cameras,” and said the pensioner has done so in interviews. He also threatened legal action for his grandchildren Lilibet and Archie, both of whom he had never met, and recently claimed Meghan should have been the subject of an apology from her first husband.

Whatever you think about Meghan and Harry’s royal exodus, Thomas is right to accuse his daughter of leaving the monarchy to profit from his years of deceitful criticism of her. Given their constant condemnation and legal threats, the duchess will hardly benefit from Thomas and his family’s desperate pleas for her to contact her.

Meghan’s separated step-brother Thomas Jr. begged the duchess for “compassion,” but where was it in May when he called her “controlling” and claimed that William “strips” him of his titles when he appeared on television to say that she will divorce him? The bizarre rants continue.

Even though this entire saga is depressing, Thomas’ pleas for communication are in stark contrast to those of a boy who cried wolf. Thomas and his other children should stop playing mind games and instead concentrate on resolving their conflict without getting the public’s attention.

Harry is trying to reconcile with his own cancer-stricken father, who is also desperate. After writing a tell-all book outexposing shocking claims about the monarchy, the duke has admitted that some of his family’s will “never forgive him.” Even though he insists that his “conscience is clear” with the book, Harry has come to a foreboding conclusion after years of hardly speaking to his father and brother Prince William.

Thomas earlier this year stated to the media that he wished her no unease. My hope is that, like a regular family, my entire family will come together one day. There were enjoyable times. She had a good personality. Although some of my daughter’s actions don’t appeal to me, I will always love her. She can always knock on my door. She and I have a deep love for one another. My children and I are all in love.
