Oscar Piastri claims that Lando Norris and McLaren have a “very similar” approach to racing in the title fight.

Following discussions following the Italian Grand Prix, where Piastri was asked to hand Norris second place after a pit-stop issue, the Australian said he “trusted” the team.

Prior to the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan this weekend, Piastri leads Norris by 31 points.

“A highly anticipated moment. Many things have been clarified, and we are already anticipating a fast-paced future. What transpired is carried out, Piastri said.

“We’ve had a lot of discussions about how we want to go racing,” he said. “A lot of that is to stay.”

Piastri claimed that the team’s decision to reverse the car’s order was influenced by the team’s set of decisions prior to the pit stops.

Although Norris had won the McLaren all-race, the team decided to stop Piastri rather than Norris in a different way.

Piastri’s stop went smoothly, but Norris lost four seconds due to a problem with the fitment of his left front wheel. Norris lost second place as a result.

Even though they had already agreed that a pit-stop problem was a common event of racing that wouldn’t necessarily lead to such a call, McLaren decided the best thing to do was to restore the natural order of the race because the team had chosen to stop in an unusual order.

From Monza, Piastri continued, “Because of the order we pitted in, there was another factor beyond the slow pit stop.” That was a factor in the swap, which was a contributing one.

“That one, because it happened, is one I’m happy to talk about.” Although we can’t always plan for every scenario, we are very congruent, and I respect the team’s choices and believe they will do their best to make the best decision possible.

The most important thing about Monza for me was that I deserved to finish third on the weekend. Due to my pace, I didn’t deserve to come in second. At some points, I was quick but not enough the entire weekend. That is the main takeaway from that, I believe.

Piastri defended his remarks about slow pit stops being a part of the race that were made over the radio during the race.

He said, “We’ve made the right choice because a slow pit stop is a necessary component of racing.” In the car, there was no context for what had happened in terms of the pit stop sequencing. Therefore, it was decided that the swapping’s considerations needed to be based on another factor.

McLaren in “remarkable position” to win title

Constructors' championship standings:1. McLaren - 6172. Ferrari - 2803. Mercedes - 2604. Red Bull - 2395. Williams - 866. Aston Martin - 627. Racing Bulls - 618. Sauber - 559. Haas - 4410. Alpine - 20BBC Sport

If the race results in Baku favor McLaren, they could win the constructors’ championship for the second consecutive year.

They will do so if they outperform Ferrari by at least nine points and are not outscored by Mercedes by 12 points or Red Bull by 33.

With seven races left this season, if that is achieved, a team will have won the constructors’ title for the first time in history.

It is a testament to the team’s tireless work, Piastri said. We are in a pretty impressive position right now, even considering clinching the constructors’ championship this early.

Just a very happy day for everyone, including myself, and everyone getting ready to get back in the car and drive all their hard work.

Fernando Alonso, an Aston Martin driver who spent two separate stints as a driver for McLaren, praised Zak Brown and Andrea Stella for their efforts in reviving the team’s fortunes over the past few years.

Andrea and Zak deserve praise for creating a successful structure and car, Alonso claimed.

Because there isn’t much controversy surrounding some of the victories, it’s less exciting to watch and more interesting for the media.
