Summer McIntosh, a teenager from Canada, won another gold medal on Monday in a bid to become famous at the World Aquatics Championships while Great Britain won the bronze medal in diving.
McIntosh has a chance to win the 400-meter freestyle final on Sunday, making it five times Michael Phelps’ total of five world championship victories.
The 18-year-old won the 200-meter individual medley in two minutes, 6.69 seconds, with Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey, who was second, and American Alex Walsh, who was second.
Abbie Wood, 26, placed sixth overall thanks to McIntosh’s persistence to complete the task in Singapore.
The three-time Olympian will compete in the 400-meter individual medley, 800-meter freestyle, and 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday, her next competition.
In a nearly identical Olympic podium finish, British divers Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding took home bronze in the men’s 3m synchronized final.
Juan Celaya and Osmar Olvera from Mexico came in second again (449.28), while they came in third again with a score of 405.33.
However, Zheng Jiuyuan, the Olympic champion in China, and Wang Zongyuan’s new partner, proved too strong with a 467.31.
We wanted to come here and win another medal on our way to the [2028 Olympics] because we had a difficult year, with different amounts of time off and returning after the games [from Leeds to Sheffield].
Laugher continued, “I still have a few things to work on, but I’ve gained a lot of knowledge to give to the individual later this week.”
Due to having “mental blocks,” Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, who won an Olympic bronze last year, has found a new partner in Maisie Bond.
