US PGA Championship Final Round 2025

Jon Rahm’s rejuvenated 54-hole lead was ended by an emotional Scottie Scheffler, who won the first US PGA Championship title.

A different story was in danger at Quail Hollow, despite the five stroke winning margin suggesting that his third major was a formality.

Scheffler, the world’s number one, had a two-way rivalry for the Wanamaker Trophy when he started three shots ahead of Rahm and five clear of him.

They took the lead halfway through the final round thanks to Scheffler’s patchy front nine and Spaniard Rahm’s string of birdies around the turn.

Before snatching the trophy, Scheffler said, “I knew it would be a challenging day.”

“I did a good job of being patient on the front nine,” I said. “Finishing off a major championship is always challenging.

“I didn’t play my best stuff, but I kept myself in it, put up a good nine holes, and that’s what I did.”

Scheffler posted birdies on the 10th, 14th, and 15th to re-establish a buffer after opening the door for Rahm by shooting two over par for his first nine.

On the challenging “Green Mile” finale, Rahm’s attempts to catch the 28-year-old ended his hopes of his own third major success.

On the par-three 17th hole, he made a double-bogey five before making a bogey on 16 and putting his tee shot into the water on the par-three. He fell to a tie of eighth after two more dropped shots on the final hole.

Bryson DeChambeau, who finished in second place behind fellow Americans Davis Riley and Harris English, whose six-under 65 helped him move up the leaderboard.

Rory McIlroy finished with a 72 to tie for 47th after completing a career Grand Slam at the Masters in April.
