Despite the fact that England’s opponents faced a two-day hammer in the opening Ashes Test, head coach Brendon McCullum has urged his supporters to “keep the faith.”
After Travis Head’s one of the greatest Ashes centuries, the tourists were defeated by Australia in Perth by eight wickets.
Realistically, England must now keep their hopes of regaining possession of the urn alive by avoiding defeat in the second Test in Brisbane, a city where they haven’t won in 39 years.
“We are aware of how significant this series is,” McCullum said. “We are aware of how many eyeballs it will have, and how disappointed the fans will be.” We are also incredibly disappointed.

One second-innings wicket was lost by England, leading 105 runs, only to suffer one of their worst defeats in this country on Saturday.
Their final nine wickets totaled 99 runs, including a 3-0 win in six balls.
The 205-pound target for Australia appeared stiff on a challenging batting surface, but Head, who was promoted to open, crashed the second-fastest century in Ashes history with a 69-ball century.
The first two-day Ashes Test since 1921 ended in England. England’s two innings of innings at Perth Stadium were 67.3%, which is their lowest total in a Test loss since 1904.
Additionally, they have lost 14 Tests so far this campaign, which is a long run. Since 2011, England have not won a game there.
A day-nighter is scheduled for the upcoming Test at the Gabba that will start on December 4. The best pink-ball bowler in the world is Mitchell Starc, who took 10 wickets in Perth, despite losing only one of their 14 day-night Test matches.
New Zealander McCullum responded, “Keep the faith,” when asked what his message to England fans would be.
“Sometimes we are beaten, and it looks pretty ugly, but there are times when having that mentality allows us to still believe in our abilities when we play.”
Sometimes we don’t get it right, but because it gives us the best chance, we must believe in what we believe. Our beliefs are unchanged simply because we are one more down in the series.

More than a week before the second Test kicks off, England are scheduled to travel to Brisbane on Wednesday.
Next weekend in Canberra, the England Lions will play a two-day pink-ball match against the Prime Minister’s XI. Under the lights, Captain Ben Stokes vowed not to travel to the capital for practice, but McCullum appeared to leave the door open for a change in plans.
The former New Zealand captain said, “We just need to figure out the pros and cons.”
We’re not currently married to any positions, but we’ll sort things out in a few days.
McCullum backed Zak Crawley, who had only the fourth pair in an Ashes Test before the England opener. In 11 balls, Starc dismissed the Kent man for a duck twice.
Crawley’s 30.22 overall average as an opener is the lowest of any Test match winner with 96 innings at the top of the order.
We think McCullum is a top player, especially in these circumstances when facing such a formidable opposition,” McCullum said.
