Harare Under-19s World Cup, England v. Scotland,

England 404-6 (50 overs): Mayes 191, Moores 81, Woodhouse 3-88

Scotland: Not yet engaged in combat

Ben Mayes scored 191 goals in their Under-19s World Cup group-stage encounter against Scotland in Harare, making it the highest score for an England youth player.

Mayes, 18, from Hampshire, was one shy of Viran Chamuditha’s 192 overall record against Japan, which Chamuditha set against Sri Lanka four days ago.

In his blistering 117-ball knock, the right-hander, who was batting at number three, hit 18 fours and eight sixes.

Joe Moores, the nephew of former England coach Peter, who had 81 runs from 65 balls in a second-wicket stand of 188, gave him a lot of support.

Dan Lawrence, who recorded 174 for England against Fiji in 2016, is now the national record for Mayes.

The result was 404-6, which was the seventh-highest score in tournament history and the first time England had ever passed 400.
