Love Island host Maya Jama has set the record straight on her smile transformation
Love Island host Maya Jama has hit back at critics who commented on her recent smile makeover.
The 31-year-old presenter returned to our screens last night (January 15) as the host of All Stars, welcoming a dozen former Islanders back into the villa for another chance at love.
However, it wasn’t long before viewers took to X, previously known as Twitter, to comment on her appearance. One user wrote: “Ahhh Maya what have you done with your teeth?”
Another fan of the ITV show remarked: “Maya got Turkey teeth – I loveeeeeeed her old teeth so much.”
The term ‘Turkey teeth’ is often used to describe veneers that appear unnaturally white and straight, reports OK!.
Quick to respond, the presenter clarified that she had actually had braces fitted.
In response to one negative comment, she said: “Girl I have not got Turkey teeth l’ve got braces (behind my teeth on the top and outside on the bottom) I wasn’t mad at my lil crook but can never please em all, last season I was getting messages about them being bent.”
Details of her dental transformation were not kept under wraps. In fact, Maya’s dentists, Dr Annika Patel and Dr Rhona Eskander, revealed back in October 2025 that she was undergoing treatment.
They posted on Instagram that she had chosen lingual braces, which subtly straighten teeth from “behind the surface”.
The dentists explained on Instagram: “This advanced technique allows you to achieve beautiful alignment discreetly while maintaining your natural smile throughout treatment,”.
They continued: “Thank you @mayajama for choosing @chelseadentalclinic and trusting Dr Annika Patel and Dr Rhona Eskander with your smile journey.”

In the comments section, one follower enthused: “So good!”, whilst another wrote: “Well done guys” and a third chimed in with: “Yasss” accompanied by heart and fire emojis.
This comes as Love Island: All Stars made its long-awaited return on Thursday evening, after frightening wildfires caused filming delays for the popular ITV2 dating programme.
In an unprecedented move for the series, an additional full-length episode will air on Saturday night (17th January) at 9pm to compensate for the postponed launch.
