Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is happy and committed to the club, says manager Unai Emery.
World Cup winner Martinez, 33, was heavily linked with Manchester United during the transfer window and sat out Villa’s 3-0 defeat by Crystal Palace.
But, after United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, Argentina international Martinez is available for Villa’s Premier League match against Everton on Saturday.
“Everything happens with players, maybe staying, maybe they were close to leaving, maybe other players were close to others or to join us,” said Emery.
“It’s normal. I understand it. Staying here is good news, I am so, so happy. He is the best goalkeeper in the world. His commitment to Aston Villa is massive.
Deadline-day signings Harvey Elliott, Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof are expected to be in the Villa squad on Saturday, though Manchester United loanee Sancho will be eased in.
The winger was training away from the United squad before making a season-long loan move to Villa Park.
“It’s different circumstances for each one,” said Emery.
“Jadon Sancho was not training with the group and physically he will need time.
“Every training session we are doing with those players is very important – to adapt as soon as possible.”
