Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time equalizer demonstrated why it is too soon to criticize his Arsenal career.

The Brazil winger has scored and assisted in Arsenal’s Champions League victory over Athletic Club before giving the Gunners a pointless draw against Manchester City.

After a challenging time in his career, the winger has lost his starting spot after starting two of Arsenal’s six games this year. He has also shown how crucial he can be when at his best.

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott told BBC Sport, “You can either sit there and sulk about things or you can actually look at yourself and consider how I’m going to impact the situation I’m in.”

“I don’t believe he has ever faced this challenge before, having to face it constantly.” He has previously played on the bench, but in the end, he was the starter last year.

He is kind of having to accept that he will be in and out this year, but because he works hard and works hard, he is a grafter, he is definitely going about it the right way.

The 24-year-old is one of the Premier League’s fastest players, and both of his goals this week were made to be effective. The ball is played behind the opposition’s defense for him to run on to.

I put my best foot forward for those times. The gaffer knows what he does, so I leave [selection] to him. Martinelli simply stated, “I’m going to do my best to support this football team.”

I “don’t want to sit on the bench,” of course. Although Mike knows what he does because he’s the jerk and everyone has faith in him, I want to play 90 minutes of each game.

Martinelli has been underwhelmed by the discussion surrounding his position in the team and has been uneasy about it.

When you are not starting every game, you also have to deal with the mixed messages that can be conveyed in this kind of narrative, Walcott continued.

“So, obviously for Martinelli, he scored after coming on against Athletic Club] in midweek, and he must have been anticipating that he would start on Sunday, and he sees Trossard start ahead of him.

With Arsenal’s strengthened squad, Arteta has made it clear that “finishers” are going to be just as important as the starting XI.

Even for someone of his ability, I always believe he needs a little time to get involved in the game, said Walcott, who admittedly didn’t believe the change was made too late.

He is the only member of that team who enjoys running in behind and making those selfless runs, but it still worked.

For me, Martinelli’s impact off the bench is more dependent on his attitude because it can go either way depending on how he feels about the situation. “What’s pleasing is the end product, because it was a brilliant finish.

Walcott claims that there are never any doubts about the Brazilian’s level, just whether or not he should start regularly for Arsenal.

He has seen who has entered, he has had connections to other clubs, but he has just started playing, Walcott added.

He has never before been pushed for that position by someone else, but now he has, and Arteta made the clever move because it allows Martinelli to achieve something new.

“For me, this is like Martinelli’s anger,” Martinelli said. Managers love evaluating players throughout the entire season with their decisions, so it’s important to know that he is showing Arteta that he can trust him.

Declan Rice, Martinelli’s teammate, believes the winger can add to those instances as Arsenal season progresses.

He has delivered significant moments since I’ve been at the club, he said. Although some players can sulk when they are called on, Rice said that he shows his heart and desire when asked to play.

Selection debate between Arteta and others

Manchester City had the lowest possession percentage under Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League at 32.8% during Sunday’s game, which is the lowest ever.

And Arteta is the first manager in his career to start a five games without losing to a Guardiola side.

The home crowd was a lot apprehensive as the Gunners struggled to open many chances in the first half when they paired up with Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino in midfield.

The same midfield trio that helped Arteta’s selection for the team in the Premier League defeat to Liverpool and the win against Athletic Club was questioned.

At half-time of the game between City and Manueta and Noni Madueke, Merino was forced to leave, but Arteta claimed it was not an admission that he had made the wrong team selection.

“No, that’s too easy to say.” Arteta remarked. It’s very clear what we wanted to do, “I believe.”

We completely dominated the game when we first started, I believe.

“I believe that after they scored in the goal without doing anything else before that, we were a little shaky for five or seven minutes before we regained control of the game and started to dominate it.”

It continued with one different player and then two or three different players in the second half.

Given the attacking options at his disposal, Merino responded by saying: “Nobody asked me about the midfield three in Bilbao, nobody. ” Arteta responded by saying that Merino had once again established himself as an advanced midfielder for Arsenal.

Given Arsenal won the midweek game, that resistance is fair, but it was the bench’s attacking players who had the advantage.
